Chapter 631: The Power of Blood Witchcraft
Blood witchcraft, as its name implies, is witchcraft that uses blood as a medium.
Even within the Wizard World, Blood Mages who study blood witchcraft are beings shunned and ostracized by others.
Some wizards, who pride themselves on their high moral standards, scorn Blood Mages even more, unwilling to associate with them.
The reason is nothing else but that blood witchcraft is simply too contrary to ethics and morality.
Although wizards are a group that hovers on the edge of the law, in the eyes of ordinary people, they have no taboos and dare to explore and offend anything; hence, they are often associated with words like evil, bizarre, and sacrilegious.
But wizards are human too; even if they disregard all taboos and wander on the periphery of the law, they are still human. Since they are human, they care about ethics and morality, about that invisible conscience and retribution.
Generally speaking, the first requirement for studying blood witchcraft is the heart blood of someone close to the Blood Mage.
This close person does not necessarily have to be a relative, but they must be the one whom the Blood Mage feels the most passionate about in their heart; that person could be the Blood Mage's mother, father, siblings, lover, mentor, or confidant.
When the Blood Mage pierces the heart of the close one, they will see the unbelievable expression on their face at the time of death, some still unwilling to believe the Blood Mage would kill them, even at the brink of death. Thereafter, the Blood Mages take the searing blood and concoct it into a Magic Potion and down it in one gulp.
Such are the initial practices of blood witchcraft, and the ensuing cruelty and bloodshed need not be further detailed.
For these various reasons, blood witchcraft and the Blood Mages who manipulate it are regarded with even more contempt by wizards than Devil Wizards who collaborate with devils. (Humans, on the other hand, think exactly the opposite.)
Collaborating with a devil does not mean associating with one, but using blood witchcraft proves that one is utterly evil, with only the most vile aspect of humanity left in the soul.
Fresh blood dripped continuously from Lodzmer's wrist, gathering at his feet.
More and more blood fell, piling up into a pool at the feet of the Devil Wizard, as if it would turn into a lake.
Yet, losing so much blood, Lodzmer's complexion did not become pale, nor did his face lose its color. Quite the opposite, his skin flushed rapidly with vitality, becoming vibrant.
Eden, who was steadily approaching Lodzmer, was slightly surprised to see this scene.
Could it be… the blood flowing out wasn't his own?
Even if his own understanding of blood witchcraft was minimal, as a Priest, he had heard of the horrors of blood witchcraft.
It was said that inside a Blood Mage's body is not just one person's blood.
Seeing Lodzmer manipulating blood witchcraft, Eden didn't delay. He raised his hand, and brilliance converged.
Purification of Evil Spirits.
The radiant light burst forth, unstoppable, but the blood that Lodzmer had shed boiled just in time. In the blink of an eye, the blood leaped up, and before anyone knew it, Lodzmer was covered in a suit of armor made entirely of blood.
At this moment, the brilliance seemed to be drowned out by blood. Lodzmer chanted a Spell, and the luster of the blood hastily adjusted from murky to shiny as metal, then the radiance was reflected back towards Eden.
Eden was caught off guard; he had not anticipated that Lodzmer would exploit the properties of light, and he was unable to dodge in time.
The Radiant Spear struck directly at Eden, while Lodzmer watched the scene with a sinister laugh.
As a Devil Wizard, Lodzmer had dealt with many Priests and Monks.
How much blood of those Clergy members was inside him? Lodzmer counted a bit; probably around four or five, including two from the Holy Chorus like Eden.
These Priests and Monks thought they could suppress evil with the power of the holy, but unbeknownst to them, they had long been calculated by Lodzmer and were often harmed by this blood reflection attack.
The so-called Clergy, are they really that pure, that radiant?
Since they are not, then, the Purification of Evil Spirits, which is effective against evil spirits, is equally effective against the Clergy.
The Radiant Spear whisked past, piercing through the burning flames, directly penetrating Eden's body.
Lodzmer seemed to already hear Eden's screams. He closed his eyes and pricked up his ears, listening intently as if he were a King attending a performance.
However, the area around Eden was silent.
Lodzmer's eyes widened suddenly.
He realized that another brilliance was condensing in Eden's hands.
Purification of Evil Spirits… had no effect?
How could this be?
Lodzmer was even more surprised than Eden had been earlier.
Had he dissolved it through some means?
Or had…
This man… no evil in him to purify at all?
Lodzmer felt a tingling of the scalp.
Then, due to Eden's approach, Lodzmer sensed something.
The pendant…
That pendant!
So, it was you who stole the pendant!
Lodzmer sensed the presence of the Stone Pendant.
No wonder that Pudoc had said, "Ah, it's you!"
Caught off guard by this revelation, Lodzmer had no time to ponder as Eden had already chanted the next Ancient Language.
"Onua."
The Holy Technique.
As the Ancient Language fell, the blood armor on Lodzmer's exterior began to show signs of disintegration, spiderweb-like cracks appearing under some invisible pressure.
Seeing this, Lodzmer, while struggling to maintain control over the blood, drew a gruesome gash across his other wrist.
"Damned thing, damned thing!"
"Sazaliu, bastard born of sin, envy, and pride who revels in fresh blood, I summon you!"
Blood flowed profusely, bubbling up in the dense blood, exuding a filthy and degenerate aura.
Slowly, from within the blood, a sinister hand reached out; a massive devil covered in scales and bathed in blood slowly rose, dragging a giant sword made of skulls in its left hand.
The appearance of the blood-soaked devil caused Eden to feel his soul tremble.
This was undoubtedly a product of the fusion of Blood Witchcraft and devil witchcraft.
It was so malevolent, it seemed as though it had stepped right out of a heap of corpses on a battlefield.
As the devil Sazaliu stepped forward, just one stride made the towering trees on either side tremble, branches shaking incessantly.
It held the giant sword in one hand, swinging it downward toward Eden.
The edge of the sword was still far from Eden, but when its tip struck the ground, the massive sword wind carrying the scent of blood swept over, causing Eden's form to waver, and he quickly began chanting in the Ancient Language.
Spirit Realm Teleportation. Spirit Realm Teleportation.
Two Ancient Languages were invoked, and Eden's figure instantly vanished from its original spot, reappearing somewhere else; the spot he had been in exploded with a loud noise, and the sword wind split the ground open with a two-meter-deep fissure.
Terrible...
This thought flashed through Eden's mind.
At that moment, Lodzmer raised a finger, blood erupted all around, forming hundreds, thousands of thin needles, flying toward Eden.
The devil wizard seized the moment Eden was dodging.
As the blood needles came flying, Eden hurriedly rolled aside, taking cover behind a tree. Immediately, the tree started emitting a hissing sound, and some of the blood that splattered onto Eden's clothes turned the fabric black, brittle, and exceedingly weak—the blood had a corrosive quality akin to concentrated sulfuric acid.
That blood had come from an alchemist Lodzmer had killed after forcing him to drink a whole bottle of concentrated sulfuric acid right before his death.
Bang!
The devil Sazaliu moved again, and while the sword was yet to arrive, Eden already braced for the terrifying might of the coming sword strike.
Hold on, he just had to hold on.
Faced with Lodzmer's continued onslaught, Eden understood that his task wasn't to defeat Lodzmer head-on, but to wait for the witches' arrival.
Once more, Eden called upon Spirit Realm Teleportation, Spirit Realm Teleportation.
The original spot was once again blasted with fissures.
Seeing the devil miss again, Lodzmer realized the problem and began to take action to restrict Eden's Spirit Realm Teleportation.
He drew a ritual circle on the ground with blood, and then started chanting some spell. Soon after, another devil surged out from the blood pool.
This devil was short in stature but wore a wizard's cap. It held a magic wand, about to chant something.
Eden, noticing this scene, cast Purification of Evil Spirits.
The wizard-like devil was unprepared and was instantly shattered, but Lodzmer seemed to have anticipated this, as two more wizard devils crawled out of the blood pool.
Eden quickly unleashed two more Purification of Evil Spirits, eliminating both devils, then once again employed Spirit Realm Teleportation and Spirit Realm Teleportation to evade the assault from the devil Sazaliu.
"They are just cover, you fool."
Lodzmer sneered inwardly, as the black blood began to seep out from his legs.
This blood came from an inherently disabled cripple.
As the blood filled the air, it burst into a blood dance, and Eden unfortunately got some on him.
Then, Eden shockingly realized that his actions had slowed down.
Fortunately, the speed of his soul's movement hadn't decreased.
"Kanu, Orosismor," Spirit Realm Teleportation.
"Kazaluti, Orosismor," Spirit Realm Teleportation.
Eden switched locations again, and just as he landed, another blood dance exploded in his vicinity as if anticipating his position, showering him with blood mist once more.
When he looked up, he saw Lodzmer's head bleeding profusely.
After that, Eden's thoughts abruptly slowed down.
Even the movement of his soul followed suit, becoming slower.
The blood that flowed from Lodzmer's head came from an idiot with mental impairments.
The devil Sazaliu approached, lifting its great sword high; the sword wind cut through the surrounding trees and streaked towards Eden.
Eden hastily dodged, narrowly avoiding being cleaved at the legs.
The devil Sazaliu didn't pause its attacks, one sword strike, two, three... each blow a deadly assault, coming one after another, with Eden awkwardly dodging in a panic through Spirit Realm Teleportation and Spirit Realm Teleportation.
Due to Lodzmer's witchcraft, the sword wind was even closer than before, and several strikes almost split Eden in two. If this were to continue, it wouldn't be long before Eden would perish on the spot.
And in the sky, unknown when, rows upon rows of brooms had appeared, lined up like a flock of geese.
