Only God

Chapter 627: Solamus's Legacy

The tension on the field was neither heavy nor light, and Eden could only feel that he must muster enough strength to convince this group of witches.

Just like facing the Fahela Sect previously, it was impossible to muddle through by pretending to be an Envoy.

Considering the relationship between the Zor Elves and the Fahela Sect, these witches might even be hostile to the Fahela Sect.

A crow fell from the wall and landed on the Witch Rita's hand, who then pulled a piece of gray-black jerky from her bosom and fed it to the crow's mouth.

Moments later, Witch Rita spoke,

"This is the man I mentioned earlier, he's been targeted by the Devil."

Before Eden could nod in acknowledgment, another tall witch interjected,

"Many have been targeted by the Devil here; we've all been targeted before."

Another witch added,

"Indeed, Rita, you need to find something special about him."

Rita scratched her head, shrugged, and continued,

"Let's have him speak for himself."

As her words fell, all the witches' gazes fixed on Eden.

Arsia felt a chill in her heart.

Eden clenched his hands.

At that moment, a small-statured witch in the middle of the witches began to speak,

"Don't be nervous."

Her voice sounded very youthful, and just like her voice, she appeared young, like a minor. Her oversized pointed hat exaggeratedly covered most of her face, and standing in the shadows by the wall, her features were indiscernible.

Her voice sounded pure, but it was unknown what lay beneath it.

Eden didn't enter Spiritual Cultivation State to inspect the souls of these witches because if noticed, it would undoubtedly be seen as offensive.

However, he wasn't expecting the witches to possess souls of kindness and purity.

"As you've heard, I've indeed been targeted by the Devil,

and I am... a member of the Night Watchman."

Eden didn't reveal everything.

"Night Watchman? From Danschel?"

A witch exclaimed in surprise.

Another witch speculated,

"From Danschel... could it be related to that princess who was given away?"

Eden then turned his head, looking at Arsia with a pleading gaze.

Arsia guessed what he was requesting and after thinking for a moment, spoke directly,

"I am that princess."

As her words fell, the abandoned tavern first fell silent, then suddenly erupted into a buzz as the witches examined Arsia up and down, utterly incredulous. They whispered among themselves, as if they had witnessed something extraordinary.

The witch Rita, who had contacted them, was astounded, her mouth agape.

Who would have thought that Danschel Empire's gem would meet with a group of witches seen by others as evil and degraded.

That was one of the most noble figures in the Empire!

If this news were to leak out... there's a good chance Danschel Empire would warrant a national witch hunt.

"Are you really such a high-ranking Your Highness? No, it's impossible without evidence."

A relatively calm witch responded.

"I have a token here that proves I am the princess."

Arsia said as she unbuckled her small leather pouch from her waist, pulling out an item from it,

"These are my marriage documents, this is a copy, the original is held by the Paladin."

A witch, seemingly from Danschel, waved her hand, chanting something, and the documents in Arsia's hand flew up and then settled in her hand.

After a thorough inspection, she exclaimed in shock,

"It's mostly likely authentic!"

The witches were all stunned; the tall woman standing beside the man really seemed to be a noble of the Empire.

"Please, help us, for God's sake."

Arsia initiated a request.

Eden glanced at her; he rarely heard Arsia ask for help, and this sight was indeed rare.

The witches turned their heads, whispered in low voices, discussing for a while. After some time, the small-statured witch spoke,

"But... you still haven't told us, how does the Devil targeting him relate to you being a princess?"

Eden exhaled a breath; he spit out a reason he had prepared in advance,

"This is the situation, on our way to the Royal City, we were attacked several times..."

The Priest briefly summarized the attacks they encountered on the road, including elements like the Zor Elves, the Fahela Sects, and the Devil, but he omitted details about the Stone Pendant and being regarded as an Envoy by the Fahela Sect.

In his account, he framed it such that the Fahela Sect incited the Devil to assassinate Arsia but was repeatedly thwarted by Eden, thus they decided to first eliminate Eden to weaken Arsia's protective forces.

Hearing Eden's explanation, although unaware of the entire story, the witches somewhat believed him.

"With the Fahela Sect, it seems there is a faction determined to kill the princess, while others either oppose it or are unaware of it."

After Eden explained, he proposed,

"We should collaborate, confront a common enemy, then achieve what each needs."

The witches looked at each other, exchanged glances, seeming hesitant. Finally, the small-statured witch standing in the middle stepped forward and said,

"We can accept this proposal."

"We can accept?"

"It means, conditionally."

Eden nodded slightly; he wasn't afraid of the witches setting conditions. Setting conditions meant there was room for negotiation; not setting them would mean the collaboration was doomed.
