Only After I Was Reborn Did I Realize That I Had Childhood Sweethearts

Chapter 26

Chapter 26 Why Can’t You Trust Me Once?

Bang!

Mei Fang’s slap echoed loudly. Everyone present, including the little fatty who was hit, was stunned for several seconds.

“You fatso! Look what you did to my sister!”

Mei Fang, in a fit of rage, slapped the boy and scolded him.

It turned out that Mei Ya had accidentally hit her head while running away earlier, with a small trickle of blood seeping from her forehead. She was now sitting in Xia Yuan’s arms, looking bewildered at everything happening around her.

The aunt saw Mei Ya’s injury and immediately said in a sarcastic tone,

“It’s just a scratch, nothing serious…”

“A scratch? Yes! A scratch!”

The aunt had barely finished speaking when Mei Fang slapped his chubby son again. Facing someone much taller than himself, the little fatty didn’t retaliate after receiving so many slaps; instead, he covered his face and started crying, rushing into the aunt’s arms.

“Wah… Mom, he hit me! He hit me…”

“What kind of brat are you? Are you crazy? Do you want me to teach you a lesson?”

The aunt scolded as she tried to grab Mei Fang’s ear. At this moment, Mei Fang shouted,

“What are you doing? Bullying a child?”

The man beside them understood Mei Fang’s intention and stepped between the aunt and Mei Fang, preventing her from hitting him.

“Hey, he’s still a child! You’re a grown-up, why do you have to be so serious with a child? Aren’t you ashamed?”

“That brat is at least in sixth grade. My Zhuangzhuang is only in second grade. This punk is so vicious, how can you not be ashamed?”

“There’s no relationship between age and being unable to fight back. It’s because he lacks ability!”

This was what the aunt had said to the uncle earlier. Mei Fang used her own words against her, leaving her speechless and only able to glare at him angrily.

But Mei Fang wasn’t afraid of her at all; he glared back.

The slap obviously left a deep impression on the little fatty’s young heart. Feeling both embarrassed and angry, he clung to his mother’s clothes, crying and demanding that she retaliate.

Seeing that his mother was hesitant to help, the little fatty rolled around on the trampoline, almost pulling down his pants, making it impossible to deal with him.

As more children and parents gathered, the aunt realized she couldn’t afford to lose face, so she grabbed the little fatty’s ear and dragged him away from the playground.

Mei Fang returned to his sister and Xia Yuan, and his sister rushed into his arms.

“This is the first time I’ve seen you get so angry.”

“It’s hard not to get mad when someone says things that make your blood boil…”

Mei Fang hated mischievous children the most.

Once, he had taken a night shift and was returning home by bus. There was a mischievous child kicking him repeatedly, and despite Mei Fang reminding the child’s parent multiple times, they didn’t take it seriously.

Mei Fang still harbored resentment over this incident and regretted not teaching the child a lesson.

“Brother, you were so cool today!”

Mei Ya raised her head with a smile, “I admire you very much today!”

“What do you mean? Don’t you admire me usually? Huh?”

Mei Fang pinched Mei Ya’s cheeks, while Xia Yuan, who was supporting her chin, looked dreamily at him.

“Tsk tsk, you say you dislike your sister, but you’re still willing to stand up for her…”

“Sisters are like that.”

Mei Fang sighed and patted his sister’s head, explaining, “Only I can say bad things about her. No one else can, let alone hit her.”

“Although fighting is bad, especially bullying the weak. Xiao Ya, don’t learn from your brother.”

“Brother isn’t bullying anyone. Brother is upholding justice and standing up for what’s right!”

Little Mei Ya suddenly used many impressive idioms, which was rare. Xia Yuan tried to persuade her but failed.

His sister was an unexpected gift in this reborn world for Mei Fang.

In the beginning, lacking experience from his previous life, Mei Fang was very conflicted about how to handle her.

But since she had become part of his family, Mei Fang gradually grew accustomed to caring for her.

He had no reason not to protect her.

After leaving the playground, Mei Fang went to the pharmacy to buy a band-aid for Mei Ya.

“If Auntie finds out about Xiao Ya’s injury, will she blame you?”

Xia Yuan thought for a moment, “Then just say it was my fault.”

“No!” Mei Ya shook her head, “I’ll say it was an accident! But we can’t tell Mom and Dad about the playground incident. This is our little secret!”

Hearing Xiao Ya talk about secrets, Xia Yuan couldn’t help but laugh and stared at Mei Fang for a long time.

Mei Fang knew she was referring to the past when she lied to him, so he responded with a hum, giving no clear opinion on her action.

Mei Fang and Xia Yuan bid farewell at the entrance of their neighborhood. When Mei Fang returned home, he found Xia Yuan’s backpack left behind.

So she came to my place to do homework under false pretenses?

Mei Fang took Xia Yuan’s backpack to her house. Before he could ring the doorbell, he heard the sound of ceramic breaking and intermittent arguments coming from inside. Unsettling memories surfaced in his mind.

As he hesitated whether to ring the doorbell, the door suddenly opened, and Xia Yuan ran out hurriedly.

She seemed to want some fresh air and was surprised to see Mei Fang standing there. She rubbed her eyes and walked quickly towards him.

“What’s wrong? Why are you here suddenly?”

“Your backpack… you forgot to take it back.”

“Oh, is that so…”

Xia Yuan smiled, “I planned to do my homework when I had time, but I forgot. Thank you.”

“Um… Is everything okay at your house?”

Xia Yuan was initially stunned, then laughed and waved her hand, “You heard the noise, right? Don’t misunderstand. It was just Mom accidentally breaking a vase. It’s nothing.”

“…”

Mei Fang looked at Xia Yuan’s face and nodded gently.

“Anyway, if anything happens, you can come to me. We are best friends.”

“Haha, Mei Fang, what are you saying? Suddenly talking like this, you’re weird!”

Xia Yuan waved her hand and smiled, “Don’t worry, don’t think too much.”

“…”

Mei Fang kept watching Xia Yuan, then reached out to wipe away the tears in her eyes.

“Why can’t you trust me once? You’re really annoying.”

After being exposed, Xia Yuan’s voice became soft like a mosquito.

“Even though we had such a fun day… I don’t want to ruin your mood with my own family issues.”

“Don’t say such distant things. We are best friends. You can tell me anything.”

Xia Yuan rubbed her eyes, “Let’s talk about it tomorrow at school.”

“Don’t drink water randomly… I mean, pour your own water, and also…”

Mei Fang gave Xia Yuan some strange instructions, so odd that even he felt a bit embarrassed. Finally, he ended the awkward conversation with a joke.

After leaving Xia Yuan’s house, Mei Fang wandered around the neighborhood for a long time, contemplating his next plan.

What was bound to happen would eventually come…

Mei Fang vaguely remembered that the tragedy happened in a snowy winter.

According to the current development of the world line, the likelihood of a predetermined event occurring prematurely was low.

Therefore, before that, he must eliminate the problem.

The sooner, the better.
