Chapter 19: New Summon: Sunless

Looking at the notifications, Arthur's expression quickly turned into a wide grin.

[Magic wand (Very Rare) has been dropped]

[Large backpack (Rare) has been dropped]

[1 Gold coin has been dropped!]

"Wow, I'm rich!"

Inspecting the items, he was very pleased.

The rare backpack was able to hold fifty items inside of it, which meant that it was ten times better than the uncommon ones.

"Thankfully he dropped me a bigger backpack, it got so annoying placing a backpack inside of a backpack and so on." He muttered as he moved his items from the uncommon backpacks into the rare ones.

[Magic wand (Very Rare)]

[Description: Grants +10% intelligence when equipped, also increases spell casting rate.]

"That's amazing, that increase is kind of huge." He muttered as he placed it in the backpack.

"I can't use it now anyway, since I don't have any offensive or defensive spells."

"Status,"

"Not bad,"

"Time to try awakening this old pile of bones... he almost killed me," Arthur muttered as he shook his head in disbelief.

"It's fine though, I will only get stronger from here. It's just a newbie mistake, I won't repeat it again...hopefully,"

Walking up to the small hill that was made out of bones, Arthur reached his hand above it and muttered.

"Awaken,"

What followed was far from ordinary.

Dark energy swirled up from the bones like a storm, a vortex of shadow and power engulfing the skeletal remains.

The air grew heavier, and the sound of a low, ominous wind reverberated through the room.

Arthur instinctively stepped back, his eyes widening.

'What is going on?' he thought, his heart pounding as the portal that normally summoned his beasts opened below the pile of bones and engulfed it.

The portal pulsed, and the swirling energy grew more chaotic until, with a sudden eruption, a large, dense swirl of shadow burst outward.

Arthur shielded his face with his arm, feeling the force of the release as the dark energy coalesced into a solid form.

From the swirling darkness, a skeletal hand reached out, clawing its way through the portal. Its bony fingers grasped at the edges, pulling itself free.

Soon, a fully formed skeleton emerged, its frame the same as before, around the size and shape of a normal human.

Arthur stared in awe as the skeleton stood before him, its hollow eye sockets glowing faintly with a dim light.

But then, to his utter shock, the skeleton bent down onto one knee, bowing its head low in a display of submission.

"Huh?" Arthur muttered, completely baffled by what he was witnessing. His voice cracked slightly as he took a hesitant step forward towards the skeleton.

The very creature that had nearly killed him now kneeling as if acknowledging him as its master.

'This has never happened before…' Arthur thought, his mind racing.

Neither Neko nor Hank had done this during their awakenings. Neko had strutted out like she owned the world, and Hank had been more neutral.

But this? This was reverence—something entirely new.

He glanced at Neko, who sat nearby with her usual indifferent expression, grooming her paw as usual.

"Okay, bad example," he muttered to himself, rolling his eyes. His thoughts flicked to Hank—who listened to orders but didn't show this kind of behaviour.

'What's different here?;

Arthur's eyes darted to his system interface as a sudden realization struck him.

'Wait, Is it because this is the third effect of my talent?'

[Talent Effect #3: You are able to summon any beast you have killed as your own summon.]

'Maybe the beasts I summon after killing are different,'

After thinking about it for a while, it made sense to him. The beasts that he kills would harbour ill intentions if he revived them, so to counter that the talent seems to make them loyal.

Sudden new notifications appeared in front of his eyes.

[You have summoned '???'s subordinate. They are now completely and utterly loyal to you, they will do as you instruct them without any fail. You have the right to name them.]

[Would you like to name '???'s subordinate']

[Yes/No]

"Completely loyal? That's a twist I wasn't expecting, but hey... I'm not complaining."

Pressing 'yes', a new notification gave him the option of either saying it or typing it.

"Hmm, let me think." He muttered, as his hands rested on his chin pondering.

"Alright, I think I got it,"

He nodded his head, looking at the skeleton that was kneeling in front of him.

"Since you seem to have an affinity to shadows, I will call you...Sunless"

[Name Confirmed, 'Your summoned beast '???'s subordinate' is now called 'Sunless']

"Time to see your status, big boy."

Glancing at Sunless's stats, Arthur's mouth dropped.

[Race:] Undead

[ID:] Sunless

[Level:] 5

[Talent:] Darkness (A)

[Health Points:] 120

[Mana Points:] 90

[Magical Damage:] 11

[Phyiscal Damage:] 9

[Damage Resistance:] 12

[Attributes:] Strength 11, Agility 6, Vitality 12, Intelligence 9

[Skills:] Rage (Epic)

[Attribute Points:] 0

[Skill Points:] 0

"Not only does he have an A-Rank talent, he also has a damn epic skill!" Arthur's voice crackled, as he looked at his summon's skills.

Looking at the stats, Arthur realised a few things.

The beasts he summons after killing will have the same level they had before death, which means they won't remain at his level. Although, he wasn't sure how they would level up.

"Would he start levelling up with me when I hit level 5?" He asked himself but found no answer, so he ignored it.

He compared Neko's status screen, and Sunless's and he frowned upon the difference.

'Neko has two (Very Rare) skills while Sunless has one (Epic). This doesn't make sense, why does Sunless have a higher skill rank than a primordial beast? '

'It might be due to his level, it seems like I need to get to level 5 as soon as possible," He thought, after some thinking.
