Chapter 319: Slaying Owen, Soul Stone
"Pitiless?" Johnnie was puzzled. "Up here in the snowy mountains, is there anyone who could threaten her?"
He knew just how powerful Pitiless was. Even injured, no one but those Lizardmen would be a match for her.
Snowy went on."It's Owen. That bastard is trying to seize Master's body."
"Owen? He isn't dead?" Johnnie frowned. He clearly remembered that in the Dragon's Lair, Owen had tried to ally with the Demon race against him—and had been killed by him.
And if Owen died in the Dragon's Lair with his Divine Soul extinguished, how was he still alive? Was there something special about his Divine Soul?
Even so, with Pitiless's strength, she shouldn't fear Owen.
Johnnie didn't dwell on it. "Go. Take me up there."
He vaulted onto the unicorn's back.
Though injured, the unicorn Snowy could still carry him without issue.
Whoosh…
The cold wind howled as the unicorn's great feathered wings spread and they shot toward the summit.
Boom! Boom!
From the mountain came the sounds of battle. An ice-forged palace was shattering, and Pitiless was being suppressed by a figure, unable to fight back.
"Lizardman!" Johnnie cried out, understanding why Pitiless was no match.
Strictly speaking, it wasn't a Lizardman—it was Owen, occupying a Lizardman's body and wielding a Lizardman's powers.
"Master, I'm here to save you!" the unicorn shouted, dashing toward Owen.
Pitiless's expression shifted slightly. "Snowy, you're no match. Leave here, quickly!"
"Hmph. I let you run earlier. This time you die!" Lizardman Owen sneered, abandoning Pitiless and striking at the unicorn.
Hum!
Sword Intent thrummed; seven sword rays howled forth from the unicorn's back.
"You—it's you!" Only then did Owen notice Johnnie on the unicorn's back. Terror flashed across his face. Without the slightest hesitation, he turned to flee.
He had witnessed Johnnie's might—the terrifying tribulation lightning that had wantonly slaughtered Lizardmen.
In this Lizardman body he was powerful—almost invincible against other Divine powerhouses.
Except for Johnnie.
"Trying to leave now? Too late!"
Johnnie's cold voice rang out. To deal with Owen, he couldn't be bothered to use the Myriad Sword Technique. The Seven Swords roared, and bolts of tribulation lightning kept falling.
With a 100,000-meter control range, and with flying still barred here, Owen had no way to escape.
Crack!
A bolt of lightning tore the sky and hit Owen in an instant, ripping his skin and flesh.
"Damn it!" he cursed through clenched teeth. He raised a hand and countless ice spikes shot out, rushing at Johnnie.
It was power he had just stolen from Pitiless.
"Water-Curtain Celestial Blossom!" Johnnie called. A surge of water-element power rose around him and turned at once into a giant shield, stretching for thousands of meters like a massive city wall.
It was his first time casting this water-type defensive Forbidden Spell, and even he was a bit shocked.
Johnnie had Vajra Indestructibility, so he wasn't afraid of the ice spikes.
But the unicorn couldn't take them, and his other defenses might not hold. He could only use the Forbidden Spell, Water-Curtain Celestial Blossom.
Pfft, pfft…
The ice spikes hit the water screen and melted apart at once, only sending ripples across it. The huge curtain of water was unharmed.
Johnnie kept controlling the Seven Swords, attacking nonstop, while tribulation lightning fell from above.
In moments, Owen was covered in wounds. His health points were dropping like crazy; he couldn't take it.
He might be of the dragon race, but this body was a Lizardman. The Nine Heavens Tribulation Lightning's tenfold damage still worked.
"Bastard!" Owen roared again and again. Ever since he met Johnnie, he'd been blasted to death over and over—this was the third time.
"Lowly human, you can't kill me. When I come back again, you'll die for sure!" he spat. His health points hit zero, and the tribulation lightning killed him on the spot.
Whoosh…
Soul power surged, and his Divine Soul burst out.
"This time, you die for good!" Johnnie summoned the Demon-Refining Pot again, covering Owen's Divine Soul. At the same time, the Seven Swords kept up their wild attacks.
They didn't really work, but at least they could slow him down a bit.
Boom!
Soul force swelled, and the Demon-Refining Pot was knocked flying.
Johnnie frowned. He couldn't figure out what was so special about Owen's Divine Soul that it didn't fear the Demon-Refining Pot.
Crack!
Just then, a bolt of lightning tore the sky and slammed into Owen's Divine Soul.
The Seven Swords couldn't hurt a Divine Soul, but unlike the Instant Kill effect and poison, they didn't need to deal damage to trigger tribulation lightning.
The lightning hit. Owen's Divine Soul shook and grew weaker.
"Hm?" Johnnie's eyes lit up.
So the Nine Heavens Tribulation Lightning could threaten a Divine Soul!
Makes sense. It's the same kind of power as heavenly tribulation, maybe even stronger.
Heavenly tribulation attacks the soul—so of course the Nine Heavens Tribulation Lightning would too.
Seeing hope, Johnnie drove the Seven Swords at full power. Brilliant bolts split the sky again and again.
Owen's Divine Soul howled, growing weaker and weaker.
Terrified, he begged."Human, let me go. I swear I won't bother Pitiless again."
"Hmph. You want to live? Then lead me to the Dragon King and the rest of the dragons." Johnnie said coldly.
The Dragon King held a broken sword that could open a void passage at any time and bring in the Lizardmen. This had to be ended for good.
"They went into the void. They're not here." Owen blurted.
"Into the void?"
Johnnie paused. The dragons had gone to the Lizardmen's world? Didn't that mean they could invade at any time?
Crack!
The Seven Swords surged. Purple lightning danced. Johnnie didn't let up.
"Human, I already told you the Dragon King's whereabouts. Why won't you let me go?" Owen snapped.
"I said to lead me to him, not just tell me where he is. You failed. You die." Johnnie said. His attacks grew even fiercer. Purple bolts slammed down one after another.
Owen's Divine Soul grew weaker and weaker. "Despicable! Human, the dragons will lead the Spirit race back. When they return, you will surely die!"
Boom!
With a thunderous roar, Owen's Divine Soul shattered and vanished. His soul was destroyed—this time, he was truly dead.
As his soul faded, a black jade stone fell.
Johnnie got no prompt. The God-killing power didn't trigger, and killing the Divine Soul gave no experience.
He didn't mind. Curious, he checked what had dropped from Owen's Divine Soul.
"Soul Stone!" Johnnie blurted out.
He knew this item. He even had a Soul Stone shard he got from slaughtering demonic creatures in the Shadow Abyss.
Owen had dropped a complete Soul Stone, and Johnnie could see its details:
[Soul Stone: Special item. For Divine powerhouses. Merge it into the Divine Soul to increase soul defense, or refine it directly to boost soul defense.]
So it directly strengthens the Divine Soul.
No wonder Owen's soul was so strong—unafraid of the Demon-Refining Pot, and even the rules of the Dragon's Lair couldn't erase him. It clearly had to do with this Soul Stone.
Johnnie tried to refine it, but nothing happened. It seemed only a Divine powerhouse could use it. He also couldn't merge it into his soul.
Helpless, Johnnie put it away.
"Master, are you okay?" The unicorn carried Johnnie down and landed before the badly wounded Pitiless, asking in worry.
Pitiless shook her head. She was pale, her energy in chaos. She watched Johnnie warily and said."Why did you come here?"
Johnnie's strength had grown a lot. Even at her peak, she wasn't his match—let alone now, when she was down to a tenth of her power. If he attacked, she wouldn't be able to fight back.
"Human, you're not going to take advantage of my Master, are you?" the unicorn asked, on guard.
Johnnie ignored it. He jumped off its back, looked at Pitiless, and said."Tell me where Skye's head is, and our feud ends here."
"You came for that?" Pitiless frowned slightly. His words left her feeling complicated. She said coldly."What if I don't tell you?"
Johnnie shrugged. "You can't beat me right now."
"You'll kill me?" Pitiless's voice grew colder, though a trace of pain flashed in her eyes.
The unicorn quickly stepped in front of Pitiless, staring at Johnnie with caution.
Johnnie frowned. To be honest, he didn't feel much hatred toward Pitiless anymore.
This woman took Cecilia but didn't hurt her. She wanted to use the Celestial Dragon with the ancestral bloodline to fight the dragons. As for attacking him, he didn't care.
"Maybe. But resisting is pointless. I have plenty of ways to force you." Johnnie said calmly. He didn't want to argue with her.
Pitiless looked a bit drained. She patted the unicorn and said."Snowy, go down first. I'm fine."
"Master, just tell him where Skye's head is. That secret is no use to us." the unicorn urged.
"I know what I'm doing." Pitiless said with a nod.
The unicorn shot Johnnie a warning look, then spread its wings and flew down the mountain.
Cold wind lashed the peak. Only Johnnie and Pitiless were left.
After a long silence, Pitiless said."I can tell you where Skye's head is. But you must remove the Passion-Severing Mantra on me."
Johnnie was puzzled. Had he really become this woman's love tribulation?
The Passion-Severing Mantra is strange and strong, but it can't affect someone who has truly cut off all feelings and desire.
Pitiless trained in the Unfeeling Way. She should have severed all emotion long ago.
But now, it seemed she had clearly fallen for someone.
"No problem." Johnnie said with a nod. This wasn't hard for him.
The Dark Golden Golem had refined the Gastro‑sac Transmuter, so it could easily swallow and refine the Passion-Severing Mantra.
He made up his mind and summoned the Dark Golden Golem.
"Huh?" He cried out in surprise. The golem had changed a lot. The metal that used to be jet-black now gave off a faint golden glow, and its energy felt much stronger.
"Dark Gold, did your strength go up too?" Johnnie thought of another trait he shared with the golem: they share stats and abilities.
When either of them grew stronger, it would be shared with the other.
That meant the golem now had all his recent gains. Most frightening of all, the Dark Golden Golem wasn't afraid of soul attacks.
