Chapter 18: Chapter 16 Empty Handed Mace
Kaido of the Beasts stood tall in the center of the clearing, his eyes sharp and cold as he addressed the man before him. "Boy, join my crew," he said in a commanding tone. "I'll make you the deputy of the Beasts Pirates."
Aizen tilted his head, the faintest smirk curling his lips. The offer caught him off guard, not because of its value but for what it revealed about Kaido's character. The young pirate captain stood amidst the corpses of nearly 400 fallen men, yet his instinct was not revenge but recruitment.
"Interesting," Aizen mused, his voice calm yet laced with intrigue. "You're willing to overlook the deaths of your subordinates that easily? What about those captains who are still alive? Won't they resent you for siding with the one who crushed them so effortlessly?"
Kaido's expression didn't waver. "If they can't accept it, they can leave. Dead weight is of no use to me," he replied bluntly. "The strong have no room for sentiment."
Aizen chuckled lightly. "Such pragmatism. Admirable, really." Then his tone shifted, growing colder. "But I have no intention of joining your crew."
Before Kaido could respond, Aizen raised a single finger, his Reiatsu flaring subtly. "Hadō #1: Shō."
A concentrated shockwave erupted from Aizen's fingertip, slamming into Kaido's chest with unerring precision. The sheer force sent the towering pirate captain hurtling backward like a missile, his massive frame crashing through a towering tree that splintered under the impact.
Kaido grunted, his eyes narrowing as he rose from the ground. He planted his feet firmly, his aura flaring with a fierce determination. "What kind of ability is that?" he demanded, brushing off the dust. "It's not Devil Fruit, but something else entirely."
Aizen's calm demeanor remained unshaken. "Why should I explain my power to you?" he replied with a faint smile.
Kaido let out a low growl, his muscles tensing. "You're not the only one with tricks." With a swift motion, he uprooted the broken tree and hurled it toward Aizen with staggering force.
The air roared as the massive tree sped through the clearing, but Aizen barely reacted. With a single Shunpo, he disappeared, reappearing several meters away.
"You call that an attack?" Aizen teased, his voice mocking.
Kaido snarled and charged forward, his massive mace raised high, shimmering with Armament Haki. "Let's see you dodge this!"
The ground quaked as Kaido swung with all his might, the weapon carrying enough force to obliterate anything in its path. But instead of dodging, Aizen raised his hand.
With an almost dismissive motion, Aizen caught the mace barehanded.
A shocked silence fell over the clearing. The remaining captains, still struggling to rise, stared in disbelief.
"He caught it... with his hand?" one of them muttered, his voice trembling.
Kaido's eyes widened in disbelief. "What kind of monster are you?"
"Monster?" Aizen mused, gripping the mace firmly. "No. This is simply control."
Effortlessly, he released a surge of Reiatsu that sent an electric jolt coursing through the mace.
"Hadō #11: Tsuzuri Raiden."
A burst of crackling energy traveled up the weapon, forcing Kaido to drop it. The shock seared his hand, leaving it bloodied and trembling.
"Paramecia?" Kaido muttered, glaring at Aizen as he flexed his injured hand. "No... something else. You're hiding your true power."
Aizen smiled, his gaze unrelenting. "Do you think your enemy would be foolish enough to reveal their secrets to you?"
Kaido gritted his teeth, his frustration mounting. Yet, deep down, a seed of unease took root. Aizen wasn't like any foe he'd faced before. Every move, every word was calculated, as if the entire encounter was a game Aizen had already won.
The young pirate gripped his bleeding hand tightly, his Conqueror's Haki flaring instinctively. But even then, he couldn't shake the feeling that no matter how hard he tried, he'd only be playing into Aizen's hands.
