Chapter 13: Chapter 12 Provoking The Golden Lion
After sailing for nearly three days, Aizen finally spotted a small island on the horizon.
Without hesitation, he steered his small sloop toward the shore, unfazed by the numerous pirate ships docked along the coast.
"A pirate haven?" Aizen mused as he observed the lively atmosphere from afar. He needed supplies and information, particularly any leads on Kaido's whereabouts. Confident in his ability to blend in, Aizen decided to approach quietly and avoid unnecessary attention.
Walking through the island's bustling streets, Aizen noticed that it rivaled the prosperity of some nations. Shops of every kind lined the streets—weapon merchants, food vendors, taverns, and even a few shady stalls selling stolen goods.
A particular tavern caught his attention. Rowdy and crowded, it seemed like the perfect place to gather information. Aizen stepped inside, and the pungent aroma of alcohol and sweat hit him immediately. The place was dimly lit, filled with the noise of drunken pirates boasting of their exploits.
At the bar stood a voluptuous, mature woman in revealing attire. Her sharp eyes immediately caught Aizen's presence.
"Oh? A handsome young man. You're quite a rare sight in a place like this," she said, her voice a mixture of charm and curiosity.
Ignoring her flirtation, Aizen got straight to the point. "I'm here for information."
The woman raised an eyebrow. "Information, huh? Well, you know the rules—payment first, no refunds, and no guarantees about accuracy."
"I'm aware," Aizen replied calmly, his voice steady.
The woman's eyes narrowed as she leaned in, her tone becoming more serious. "What are you looking for?"
"Kaido. His location."
Her expression froze for a moment. "Kaido? The man who was once part of the Rocks Pirates?"
"That's right," Aizen said, his tone unchanging.
The woman chuckled nervously. "That kind of information doesn't come cheap. Five million berries."
"Fair enough," Aizen said, his voice cool. "But let me offer you an alternative. A head."
He casually pointed to a group of twenty rowdy pirates seated in the corner. Their leader, a burly man over two meters tall with dark skin and an imposing presence, was the infamous Bahid, a pirate under the Golden Lion's protection with a bounty of 35 million berries.
The woman gasped. "Do you have any idea what you're saying? That man is under the Golden Lion Pirates' flag! Touching him is a death sentence!"
Aizen's expression didn't waver. "You'll get your payment soon enough."
He strode confidently toward Bahid and his crew, his presence alone silencing the tavern.
"Who the hell are you?" Bahid growled, rising from his seat.
Without a word, Aizen unleashed a wave of spiritual pressure, freezing the entire group in place. The room seemed to tremble under the weight of his power. One by one, Bahid's men fell to their knees, their faces pale with terror.
Bahid, though barely able to stay upright, managed to speak. "Do you know what you're doing, boy? Killing me means war with the Golden Lion!"
Aizen's eyes narrowed. "Is that your last defense?"
Before Bahid could respond, Aizen's Zanpakutō, cloaked in Armament Haki, sliced cleanly through him. The pirate's body collapsed to the floor, lifeless.
The tavern was silent, the pirates too stunned to react. Aizen turned back to the woman, his blade clean and his demeanor calm.
"I've paid the price. Now, tell me what I need to know."
Swallowing her fear, the woman quickly retrieved a map. "Kaido is currently in the Lembongan Sea, northwest of here. He's known to host banquets on uninhabited islands, so he moves frequently. This map should help."
Aizen took the map, his face as composed as ever. "That will suffice."
He stepped out of the tavern, leaving the stunned crowd behind. His journey to face the Beast had begun.
