Chapter 766: Chapter 650 Execution
"Luffy…"
Garp stood before Ace, his brown leather shoes planted firmly on the ground, his broad back blocking the view between the two.
As he looked at the small figure rushing toward the execution platform, locking eyes with those determined ones, Garp took a deep breath. "You… are all a bunch of idiots."
Ace fell silent at his words, suddenly breaking into a smile through his tears.
"Tch! You knew this already, old man."
"…"
Garp didn't say anything; he just slowly clenched his fists.
''Whoosh!''
Below, Luffy ran to the side of the execution platform, extending his arm upward to grab onto the crossbeam before propelling himself up.
"Move aside, Grandpa! I'm going to save Ace!"
"Arrogant!"
Suddenly, Garp's eyes widened, and a terrifying aura surged around him.
''Buzz!!''
Black Haki wrapped around his fists, solidifying into armor as Garp took half a step back, watching Luffy soar up toward him, raising his Iron Fist that symbolized Justice.
''Boom!!''
The two fists of different sizes collided with tremendous force, the air exploding with a shockwave.
"Grandpa, do you really have to stop me?!"
"Brat! I'm a Marine!"
The two were separated in an instant, Luffy was sent crashing down onto the high platform. Yet, he quickly bounced back up and flew at Garp again.
"Then I won't hold back!"
''Gomu-Gomu… Bazuka!''
''Bang!!''
The fire scattered, obscuring the vision of both combatants.
As he watched that tiny fist, Garp suddenly recalled a moment from over a decade ago when Luffy was just born, and they had a similar encounter.
Back then, one was lying in a cradle while the other crouched nearby, both sporting silly grins as they bumped their fists together.
"Ha ha ha, he's a good material for becoming a Marine!"
Garp still remembered what he had said at that time.
But now, in the same action, everything had changed.
He represented the Marines, while that baby represented pirates; they were now like water and fire, impossible to reconcile.
No one was wrong; the mistake was that they had taken different paths.
"Ah!!!"
Luffy roared in pain, gritting his teeth fiercely.
How brutal was Garp's fist?
Luffy had the most say in this.
Even though Luffy's rubber body inherently reduced blunt damage by 50%, he still couldn't withstand it. The cracking sound in his fingers told him his arm had reached its limit.
But Luffy didn't give up; no matter who was in front of him, he had to save Ace.
"Well, this should be enough…"
Garp suddenly lost his focus and thought.
"As a grandfather, this is all I can do."
''Thud!''
At that moment, Garp felt a sudden pain in his lower back.
Ace had unexpectedly leaped up in a cannonball-like style, and used his head to ram into Garp's waist, knocking him off balance.
"Now's your chance, Luffy!"
"Great opportunity!"
Luffy's eyes brightened, gritting his teeth as he unleashed all his strength, thrusting his fist forward.
''Bang!!''
In front of a crowd of astonished, confused, and shocked spectators, the renowned "Marine Hero," "Iron Fist" Garp was struck on the chin by this little-known pirate's punch.
"Whoa… ah!"
Blood spilled from Garp's mouth as he lost his grip, his towering body flying backward, indeed knocked away by Luffy's punch!
"What?!"
"Impossible!!"
"Vice Admiral Garp, how could this be?!"
Countless Marines and civilians who witnessed this scene stood in shock, staring at the figure that was sent flying, their faces filled with disbelief.
As one of the Three Great Legends of this era, Garp's strength had already ingrained itself deeply in the hearts of a generation.
He was the "Marine Iron Fist" who had pushed the "Pirate King" Roger into a corner multiple times!
How could this…
"Hey, Garp!"
Vice Admiral Tsuru remained remarkably calm, surprised for barely a second before understanding the situation.
A new storm was already brewing.
The Marines needed more heroes.
Only by having an older generation like him fall from grace could they make room for those who would follow in their footsteps and continue the legacy.
That's probably how it is.
''Pū Tōng!''
As Garp was sent flying, Luffy landed on the execution platform, gasping for breath. He suddenly looked up, shouting, "Grab my hand, Ace! I'll get you out of here!"
Mr. 3 had already been killed by Rowen, and the Wax-Wax Fruit had been picked up by the Revolutionary Army, so Luffy couldn't unlock the Seastone handcuffs without the key. He could only use brute force to take Ace away.
"Okay!"
Ace snapped back to reality from his surprise at the sudden turn of events, allowing Luffy's outstretched rubber arm to wrap around him.
Seeing this, Luffy grinned widely and turned to jump down with Ace.
Looking at the Bright Sky in the Distance
For a brief moment, Ace truly thought he could escape.
He believed he could return to the sea, back to the Whitebeard Pirates, back to everyone.
''However…''
''Boom!!''
"It's over for you two."
''Pfft!!''
His body, flying outward, suddenly came to a halt, crashing heavily onto the execution platform.
Coughing up a mouthful of clotted blood, Ace felt the leather shoe pressing down on his back and struggled to look back.
"S—Soryu!"
The dream shattered, and cruel reality resurfaced.
With one foot on Ace's back, Rowen held the thunder halberd in a reverse grip, electricity crackling violently, cold and merciless.
"Time's up. Execute!"
Since Garp had already made his choice, it was time to end this farce.
"Don't!!!"
Luffy, yanked back from midair, hung onto the side of the execution platform, his eyes wide with terror as he watched the scene unfold, screaming in rage.
A powerful wave of Haoshoku Haki spread out, proving that he possessed the "Qualities of a King."
But that Haoshoku fluctuation couldn't affect the currently unmatched Rowen at all; it felt like a gentle breeze, insignificant.
Then…
''Szz!!!''
The thunder halberd descended and blood splattered.
Amidst the dazzling Thunderlight, the thunder halberd mercilessly pierced Ace's chest, it's jagged tip bursting through, pinning him to the execution platform.
In that moment, everything fell silent.
Luffy's eyes widened as he watched Ace slump down, one arm dangling over the edge of the platform.
''Drip, Drip.''
The flowing crimson blood dripped slowly from Ace's fingertips, landing on Luffy's face. The liquid, tainted by Awakening, quickly ignited, bringing a searing sensation.
But Luffy couldn't even wipe it away; he stared blankly at Ace, the light in his eyes fading fast.
"No…"
"This can't be real…"
In response, Ace struggled to lift his head, forcing out a painful, tender smile at Luffy.
"Live on, Luffy…"
Then…
''Smack!'
'
He forcefully broke free from Luffy's rubber arm, sending Luffy plummeting from the high platform.
Ace leaned back, allowing the crescent blade to slice through his chest, tearing him apart. Then, like a frenzied beast, he let out a roar that was anything but human.
Despite being suppressed by Seastone, sparks of fire ignited on his body as he charged fiercely toward Rowen.
He wanted to buy Luffy time, even if it was just a second.
As he saw Ace barreling toward him, Rowen couldn't help but smirk.
"Awakening raging, what an unreasonable state…"
Even with the Seastone suppressing him, Ace still wasn't finished off in one blow.
"Such a pity."
Ignoring Ace's charge, Rowen slightly sidestepped, and the two executioners behind him splashed a bucket of water onto Ace.
''Splash!'
'
''Hiss… Hiss…''
"Ah!!!!"
Like hot coals doused with cold water, a thick cloud of white smoke billowed from Ace's body, accompanied by a sickening "hissing" sound, causing him to stumble to the ground.
His fiery form curled up, Ace opened his mouth in agony, his skin turning black and charred, tightening until he was completely reduced to ash, motionless.
Awakening raging indeed granted Logia users a strong ability to survive, but it also made them more severely vulnerable to elemental weaknesses!
At this moment, that charred corpse bore no resemblance to Ace's original appearance, shrinking to nearly half its size; it looked like the body of a child rather than an adult.
Rowen looked at this scene with slight shock; Devil Fruits were indeed evil!
Once consumed, the consequences were unbearable!
But…
Even knowing this was a glimpse of his own future, would he choose to back down?
Looking at the now-quiet square, Rowen shouldered the thunder halberd and shouted loudly.
"Execution complete!!"
Silence fell among the crowd, followed by a frenzied cheer as they waved their flags.
"Ho!!!"
"Long live the Marines!!!"
With this, the war ended in a one-sided victory for the Marines.
