Chapter 97: Chapter 97: The Red Count!
The trap had failed.
Many Marines sacrificed their lives in the process.
Using his unique ability to read minds through Observation Haki, Patrick located the Marines' ambush and unleashed a massacre.
Even though the forces led by Kong were no weaklings—every one of them at least at the rank of Rear Admiral—they were caught entirely off guard. As a result, they had no chance to retaliate.
If not for Kong's timely arrival to stop Patrick's slaughter, the Marines might have faced complete annihilation!
"Patrick, you're as troublesome as ever. You've grown even more cautious than before!"
Kong let out a cold snort, his entire body coated in Armament Haki, ready to strike at any moment.
Patrick opened his black umbrella with a faint, cordial smile.
"Kong, people improve over time. You, my old rival, however, haven't made any progress all these years. What a disappointment.
Also, how old are you now? Nearly eighty, isn't it? With that aging body of yours, are you sure you can take me down?"
Patrick's voice dripped with disdain.
But his taunts were met with Kong's massive fist!
The fist, as large as a boulder, was enveloped in pitch-black Armament Haki and surrounded by cherry blossom-like sparks, hurtling toward Patrick with immense force.
The raw power of the strike distorted the air itself.
Yet, Patrick merely sneered, raising his black umbrella as a shield.
In an instant, Armament Haki spread across the umbrella, allowing it to withstand Kong's devastating punch!
A deafening roar echoed through the skies.
The collision of their powers generated a terrifying shockwave that flattened the surrounding grass and left a massive crater beneath their feet.
Despite the chaos, Kong didn't pause.
With a furious roar, he unleashed a relentless barrage of punches upon Patrick.
The overwhelming force pushed Patrick back, forcing him to use both hands to brace his umbrella, preventing it from breaking under Kong's assault.
But staying on the defensive was not a solution.
Seizing a brief opening in Kong's attacks, Patrick folded his umbrella and, taking advantage of his superior reach, thrust it toward Kong's chest!
Patrick was not only a skilled combatant but also a master swordsman whose swordsmanship surpassed even Mihawk's by several magnitudes.
Even though his weapon was just a black umbrella, in his hands, it transformed into a deadly blade.
The air roared with Kong's fists and Patrick's sword-like strikes, their clashes shaking the earth like an earthquake.
Wild beasts hidden in the nearby mountains sensed the danger and fled deeper into the island.
The Marine forces also hastily retreated, aware of the devastating effects of the battle. Any creature within a kilometer radius would be caught in the crossfire.
Once Kong saw that the Marines had mostly evacuated, he smiled grimly and launched another devastating punch at Patrick.
Kong's punches carried immense power—besides Garp, no one in the current Marine ranks could match Kong's raw physical strength.
Yet Patrick was no easy prey.
A man who could stand on equal footing with the likes of Whitebeard and Roger relied on his incredible strength and skill to do so.
And as a master swordsman, Patrick was a force to be reckoned with.
With a swift motion, he spun his umbrella, deflecting Kong's punch before retaliating with a powerful slash.
The attack forced Kong to cross his arms in defense.
Even without a blade, Patrick's umbrella unleashed sharp waves of sword energy, forcing Kong to stay on guard.
Seizing the moment, Patrick launched an all-out offensive.
Each of his attacks sent slicing shockwaves that shattered the ground and tore through the skies.
The ferocity of Patrick's swordsmanship pushed Kong back, though the latter's entire body was reinforced with Armament Haki, blocking most of the damage.
Kong's epithet, "Steel Bone," signified his exceptional durability, placing his defensive abilities among the strongest on the seas.
However, even with his top-tier Armament Haki, Patrick's unyielding sword intent began to penetrate Kong's defenses, causing minor injuries.
"Kong, it seems you've grown weaker with age," Patrick taunted, grinning as he closed the distance. "You've lost much of your former strength.
If anyone here is old, it's you! I may have aged, but you're practically on death's door. What right do you have to mock me?"
Patrick laughed heartily, his voice dripping with arrogance. But his mocking laughter was cut short by Kong's iron fists!
Prepared this time, Patrick deftly blocked Kong's strikes with his umbrella. When an opening appeared, he retaliated with a devastating slash, sending Kong flying backward.
Even with his incredible durability, Kong couldn't avoid minor injuries from Patrick's relentless attacks.
Still, their strength was evenly matched.
Patrick's swordsmanship was supreme, and Kong's defenses were impenetrable. Neither combatant showed signs of yielding, and their duel raged on, with no clear victor in sight.
