Chapter 59: Chapter 59: A Handy Title
"Detected: Gloriosa. Eligible for a sign-in!"
"Detected: Boa Hancock. Eligible for a sign-in!"
Karl docked his warship in mid-air and approached the Kuja Pirates' ship alone.
At the same time, Karl nonchalantly equipped the title of "Friend of Women" upon himself.
The Amazonian warriors aboard the ship seemed a bit nervous when they first laid eyes on Karl. However, once they realized he was a man, whispers filled the air, and their cheeks flushed, leaving them visibly distracted by thoughts unknown.
Even Gloriosa, upon seeing Karl, felt an inexplicable urge to form a union with him. However, her willpower was strong enough to quickly suppress such thoughts.
Among the crowd, the youngest, Hancock, remained largely unaffected. Karl's "Friend of Women" title had a stronger impact on older individuals. For younger ones, unless they already harbored positive feelings toward him, it was difficult for this charm to create a favorable impression out of thin air.
This discovery was the result of Karl's idle experiments over the past three months.
Among those present, Gloriosa was the oldest, making her the most susceptible.
"Hey, stinking marine! Are you a man? You look kind of handsome. So, are you here to capture us?"
Hancock adopted a combat stance, showing off her slender arms and legs, ready to attack Karl.
Still slightly dazed, Gloriosa snapped out of it upon hearing Hancock's words. She quickly grabbed the young girl's hand and pulled her back.
"What a terrifying charm! Even I was affected. But you're not a Devil Fruit user, are you? Why do you possess such an ability?"
Gloriosa's voice trembled with unease. Hearing her words, the other warriors snapped out of their daze as well, hastily grabbing their weapons to surround Karl.
"Devil Fruit ability? You're underestimating me, Ms. Gloriosa," Karl said with a charming smile that made her heart skip a beat.
"This is merely my natural charisma. Nothing more, nothing less."
Don't look into his eyes!
Don't look at his face!
This thought dominated Gloriosa's mind as she lowered her gaze to Karl's feet. The moment she did so, her inner turmoil began to subside, much to her relief.
"Everyone, look at his feet! Do not look into his eyes or at his face!"
Gloriosa's command echoed across the deck. The Amazonian warriors obeyed, focusing their gazes downward. Yet, some with weaker wills couldn't resist sneaking glances at Karl's face.
For many of these warriors, this was their first time seeing a man—especially one as handsome as Karl. They couldn't help but feel captivated.
Seeing this, Gloriosa could only sigh inwardly as she continued to pull Hancock further back.
"Mr. Karl, what exactly do you want? The Kuja Pirates have always operated within the Calm Belt, avoiding conflict with the Navy or attacking merchant ships. If you're here to target us, isn't that a bit unreasonable? We've never committed heinous crimes."
Gloriosa's tone was cautious and laced with desperation.
Karl's reputation preceded him. His speech during Gol D. Roger's execution, his battle alongside the Navy against the Golden Lion, and his solo defeat of Douglas Bullet were enough to make him a renowned figure.
Faced with such a formidable presence, Gloriosa—acting as Amazon Lily's temporary empress—had no choice but to adopt a humble stance for the sake of her people and crew.
Her submissive demeanor surprised Karl.
Gloriosa was of the same era as Roger and even Rocks. Though her strength wasn't exceptional, her wisdom and leadership were evident in how well she managed Amazon Lily.
"Grandma, why are we afraid? He's just a marine captain. If push comes to shove, we can kill him and leave no witnesses!"
Little Hancock's bold and haughty demeanor mirrored her future self perfectly.
Karl chuckled and gently patted Hancock's head, causing her cheeks to flush red. She quickly retaliated with a kick.
"You stinking man! How dare you touch my head! You're asking for it!"
Karl easily caught her tiny ankle, but before he could respond, Gloriosa swiftly intervened, launching a Haki-infused kick at Karl.
The attack carried enough force to make Karl feel a hint of threat, forcing him to block and retreat two steps, releasing Hancock in the process.
This brief exchange confirmed Karl's suspicions: Hancock hadn't yet eaten the Mero Mero no Mi (Love-Love Fruit). If she had, her personality would have driven her to use it immediately.
Karl smiled again, now certain that the fruit remained unclaimed. This presented an opportunity to secure it for Bell-mère.
Having achieved one of his objectives—confirming Hancock's status—Karl saw no reason to linger. As for signing in with Hancock, he decided against it. She was too young to grant him any significant abilities. Signing in with Gloriosa seemed far more practical.
"Rest assured, I have no intention of harming you. Amazon Lily and the Navy have no conflicts, and I don't intend to break that understanding. However, I must warn you—protect this young girl. The Celestial Dragons have been rampantly capturing young girls for slavery. Her appearance fits their criteria, so guard her well to avoid a tragedy."
Karl's warning carried a tone of genuine concern, leaving Gloriosa puzzled about his true intentions.
Before she could respond, Karl used Soru to appear directly before her. Her instincts kicked in, and she immediately launched another kick, only for Karl to block it effortlessly while grabbing her hand.
"Don't worry. I've heard tales of your reputation from Roger. I was curious about Amazon Lily and decided to visit. Consider this a reminder to be cautious of the Celestial Dragons."
With that, Karl's piercing gaze softened into a smile.
