Zefa's body trembled; he could feel his strength fading, but he knew one thing for certain—his death wouldn't be meaningless. He would fight to the very end for the sake of his students.
Zefa pressed his forehead to the ground, blood dripping from his battered body. Using the last strength in his remaining leg, he stood once again before Edward Weevil.
Miss Buckin curled her lips in disdain as she watched the scene unfold.
"Weevil, finish him off already! I don't understand why you're dragging this out."
"Yes, Mama," Weevil replied, his massive frame shifting as he slowly advanced toward Zefa.
Each step was like a tolling bell of despair in Zefa's ears. His broken sunglasses hung precariously from his nose, shattered in half, reflecting his current state—on the brink of collapse.
"Die!"
Without another word, Weevil raised his massive naginata, slamming it down with full force. A single strike in Zefa's current condition would surely end him.
But Zefa's resolve didn't waver. Even a few seconds gained for his students were worth the sacrifice.
"Armament Haki!"
Concentrating the last of his Haki onto his forehead, Zefa bent his one remaining leg and launched himself toward Weevil with all the strength he had left.
Meanwhile, on the distant shore, Roja gazed at the island ahead, his expression grim. From this distance, he could already see the injured naval recruits scattered along the shore.
Some bore minor wounds, but others were unconscious, teetering on the brink of death.
"Phantom Brigade," Roja muttered.
In an instant, a hundred spectral copies of himself materialized, each holding medical supplies. The phantoms leapt toward the island with Geppo, dispersing to tend to the wounded recruits.
With his mastery of medicine, Roja was confident he could save them.
"Kalifa, once their treatment is complete, have them rest aboard the warship," he instructed calmly.
"Understood, Admiral White Dove," Kalifa replied, her usual composure replaced by steely determination.
The phantoms moved with precision, assessing injuries and administering first aid.
"Where is Zefa-sensei? Wasn't he with you?" Roja asked as he scanned the area, his sharp eyes narrowing.
A deep foreboding settled over him when he couldn't spot the familiar figure of his mentor.
Ain approached him, her voice trembling with urgency.
"Admiral White Dove, Sensei stayed behind to face Weevil! Please, abandon the phantoms if you must—use your full strength and save him!"
As Ain spoke, the conscious recruits around her bowed low, pleading in unison.
The sight was heart-wrenching.
Roja's eyes softened momentarily before his tone turned firm.
"Making others choose for me? That's not my style. Only kids make choices—adults take everything!"
Before anyone could process his words, Roja shot forward like an arrow from a bow.
The pinnacle of the Six Powers—Soru!
He vanished into the jungle, moving at a blinding speed toward the direction Ain had indicated.
The recruits stood in stunned silence.
"Is he... doing two things at once?"
"Maintaining all those phantoms while moving so fast—he's incredible!"
"Is this the power of an admiral?"
"No... Admiral White Dove might be the strongest of them all!"
Their murmurs carried a mix of awe and hope. Ain clutched her hands together tightly, muttering under her breath.
"As long as the White Dove gets there in time, Sensei will be saved..."
But her words were cut short by a deafening explosion from deep within the island.
Ain's heart sank.
At the island's center, the battlefield was in ruins. Trees were shattered, debris lay scattered, and in the middle of a massive crater lay Zefa.
His trademark purple hair, soaked in blood, clung to his face. His sunglasses were shattered completely, and his body was riddled with grievous wounds.
He coughed weakly, blackened blood dripping from his lips. Even keeping his eyes open was a struggle.
"Weevil, hurry up and finish him already!" Miss Buckin snapped, her shrill voice grating. "How hard is it to kill one old man?"
Weevil scratched his head, confused. "But Mama, you told me not to make a mess near you."
"Forget that! Just end it already!"
Nodding, Weevil's menacing aura flared as he prepared to strike the final blow.
Zefa, lying in the crater, stared at the stormy sky above.
"If only... I could've seen the clear blue sky one last time," he thought, his breath shallow.
Thunder rumbled, and rain began to pour, soaking the battlefield. Zefa closed his eyes with a faint smile. His time had come, but at least he had bought enough time for his students.
Weevil loomed over him, raising his naginata for the finishing strike.
But before it could fall, a voice rang out.
"Looks like I made it just in time."
Zefa barely opened his eyes to see Roja standing on the battlefield, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Phantom Mirage!"
In an instant, a spectral copy of Roja appeared, whisking Zefa's body out of the crater and toward safety. The phantom moved swiftly, carrying him back toward the warship.
With effort, Zefa cracked his eyes open and saw himself being carried.
The real Roja stood before Weevil, his hands coated in black Armament Haki as he caught the massive blade barehanded.
The ground cracked beneath him, but Roja remained unharmed.
"Sensei, you've done enough," the phantom whispered to Zefa. "Leave the rest to me."
Hearing those words, Zefa finally allowed himself to relax, his eyes closing in relief.
Back in the crater, Roja faced Weevil, his gaze sharp and brimming with fiery determination.
"So, Whitebeard Jr., huh? Let's see just how strong you really are."
