Although Kuro had been defeated by Roja, the aftermath was grim. Keya's parents and Usopp lay motionless, soaked in their own blood.
Keya collapsed to the ground, tears streaming uncontrollably down her pale face.
After dealing with Kuro, Roja quickly approached her. His voice was calm yet filled with conviction: "Trust me. I won't let anything happen to them."
Without waiting for a reply, Roja activated his "Fifth Turn Phantom." His projections scattered, racing towards the warship to retrieve medical supplies. He needed medicine—anything that could stabilize their conditions. Combined with Roja's pinnacle-level medical skills, he was confident that as long as they still drew breath, he could save them.
Keya watched Roja in awe. He worked swiftly, expertly bandaging her parents and stopping their bleeding with techniques she couldn't even begin to comprehend. For a moment, hope sparked within her despair.
Before long, her parents stirred, their eyes fluttering open weakly.
"Keya, stay with them," Roja said, waving her over to care for her parents. Then, he turned his attention to Usopp.
Usopp's injuries were far graver, his body battered and broken. But somehow, he still clung to life. His indomitable will—a spirit that defied even death—kept his faint heartbeat steady.
"Usopp," Roja said softly, "your future lies out there on the seas."
Roja summoned his phantoms once more. Under his meticulous control, they worked with precision, aiding him in stabilizing Usopp. Through sheer skill and determination, Roja pulled him back from the brink of death.
Finally, with their lives no longer in immediate danger, Roja moved them to beds to rest and recover.
Keya approached Roja hesitantly. Watching him save her family had brought to mind the stories Usopp used to tell her—tales where a heroic "prince" appeared to rescue everyone from despair.
In her eyes, Roja was that prince.
Without warning, she threw herself into Roja's arms, sobbing uncontrollably. All the fear and helplessness she'd suppressed came pouring out. She cried for what felt like hours, her tears soaking his coat. It wasn't until her eyes were swollen and dry that she finally pulled away.
After a brief silence, Keya looked at Roja with newfound determination.
"Roja," she began, her voice steady despite her red, puffy eyes, "I want to study medicine. I want to be as skilled as you! I don't ever want to feel powerless again—watching my loved ones suffer without being able to help them. Will you teach me? Please, make me your apprentice!"
Roja didn't answer immediately. Instead, he handed her a prescription. "Make sure your parents take this on time. It's good for their recovery. Over time, it will even strengthen their bodies."
Keya nodded earnestly. "I understand," she said, though disappointment flickered in her eyes. Roja hadn't given her an answer about being her teacher.
As Roja stood and headed toward the door, he paused. Turning to her, he added, "Once their injuries are healed, use a Den Den Mushi to contact me. I'll send someone to bring you to me."
Keya's eyes lit up with joy. She leapt to her feet and hurried over to him. "Really?" she asked, her voice filled with hope.
"A man of his word," Roja replied simply.
"Thank you, Roja! If it weren't for you, I don't know what I would've done. You… you're my light!"
Before she could lose her nerve, Keya leaned up on her tiptoes and pressed a soft kiss to Roja's lips.
After leaving Keya's house, Roja found Jango waiting for him outside.
"You're still here? I thought you'd run off," Roja remarked casually.
Jango chuckled nervously. "Run? If I did, I wouldn't last long." Taking a deep breath, he added, "Admiral Roja, I've made a decision. I want to surrender to the Navy, atone for my crimes, and… join the Marines."
Roja raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What brought this on?"
"I realized that senseless killing only leads to more suffering," Jango replied solemnly.
"Suit yourself," Roja said with a shrug.
With that, Roja left Syrup Village, guiding his warship toward the nearest naval branch. He needed to pick up Kalifa and return to Marineford.
Before departing, Roja left a phantom behind to oversee Jango's surrender, ensuring he truly followed through. Even so, the distance between Roja and his projection drained him. The farther the phantom strayed, the more taxing it became—a discovery that gave Roja new insight into his Devil Fruit powers.
After retrieving Kalifa from the naval branch, the two set course for Marineford. Their journey was productive; Roja felt he'd accomplished much on this mission. His reputation as a hero had solidified, he'd secured Noah's Ark, and his mastery of medical techniques had proven invaluable.
On the seas, survival often hinged on two things: a sturdy ship and skilled medical care. Without timely treatment, even minor injuries could lead to death. Roja knew that countless lives had been lost to infection and neglect—a tragedy his skills could help prevent.
As he and Kalifa chatted, the Den Den Mushi rang abruptly. Kalifa's demeanor shifted, her usual air of professionalism sharpening. When she saw the name on the line—Fleet Admiral Sengoku—she answered immediately.
"Fleet Admiral, this is Kalifa."
"Kalifa, relay this to Roja," Sengoku ordered. "Prepare for immediate deployment. Head to the Ronadoron Sea. Z—Zefa—has sent a distress signal."
Kalifa's eyes widened in shock, though her voice remained steady. "Understood, sir."
Hanging up, she turned to Roja, her expression grave. "Zefa has called for help."
Roja's eyes darkened. Without hesitation, he summoned his phantom and set a course for Ronadoron.
He already knew who Zefa was up against. A brute of immense strength, said to rival Whitebeard in his youth.
For the first time in a long while, Roja felt a flicker of unease.
