Chapter 264: 264: The One Piece Is A Lie?
Big Mom's lifeless body crashed onto the ice, her sheer weight causing her to bounce twice before settling with an eerie stillness. Her resilience was undeniable—like a grotesque steel balloon, her body refused to break even in death.
Whitebeard and the others stood frozen in place, stunned by the brutal finality of Big Mom's demise.
Uchiha Chiga didn't bother hiding anything. He stepped forward and, before the watching eyes of all present, transformed Big Mom into a Six Paths Puppet. Given her power as the wielder of the Soul-Soul Fruit, she was the perfect candidate to serve as the Human Path.
Gasps rippled across the battlefield as Big Mom's eyes suddenly reopened, now bearing the distinct ripple pattern of the Rinnegan.
Kaido's voice trembled as he cautiously called out,
"Linlin…?"
But the woman he once called an ally offered no reply. She stood silently, walked to Chiga's side, and assumed a quiet stance, like a loyal sentinel.
"Mom!"
Her children shouted from behind the Big Mom Pirates' formation, still hoping she would respond. But they didn't yet understand—this was no longer their mother. She was now a corpse, animated only by Chiga's will.
Shanks narrowed his eyes and stepped forward.
"What did you do to her, Chiga?"
Chiga gave him a calm, unreadable smile.
"You'll understand soon enough."
With a subtle glance, Chiga gave Big Mom her first command.
Kill Red-Haired Shanks.
Big Mom's fists surged with Armament Haki, and in an instant, she launched herself like a cannonball toward Shanks. Despite being confused by the situation, Shanks, powered by the strange force, didn't hesitate. He raised his arm to block the incoming attack.
Before contact, Whitebeard intervened. With a swing of his tremor-infused fist, he struck Big Mom square in the abdomen. The air shattered with the signature sound of his Tremor-Tremor Fruit. Though wounded, Big Mom didn't slow down. Her second fist barreled toward Shanks.
"Tch," Shanks muttered, retaliating with a sharp kick that sent her crashing back across the battlefield.
Undeterred, Big Mom scrambled up, slammed her hand onto the ice, and infused it with her soul.
A grotesque face emerged from the ice beneath Shanks, causing it to rupture and split. Shanks cursed and leapt away, retaliating with several red-colored Haki-infused shockwaves.
Big Mom blocked with her arms, but Shanks' strength had long surpassed that of a typical Emperor. The shockwaves overwhelmed her and sent her crashing into the ocean below.
Shanks exhaled deeply, assuming the sea would render her helpless. But Chiga had already overridden nature's laws.
The Six Paths puppet had no need to breathe, nor did it fear water.
Big Mom emerged from the ocean and lunged again.
Whitebeard had seen enough. He raised his hands and ripped the air, twisting space itself. Big Mom lost balance and tumbled. Seeing the opportunity, Whitebeard dashed forward, ready to land a decisive blow.
But Chiga was faster.
He appeared before Whitebeard, forming a semicircular spatial field around him. With two fingers pointed like a pistol at Whitebeard's abdomen, he whispered coldly,
"Room, Shoot."
Bang!
A dull thud echoed. Whitebeard coughed up blood and staggered back, half-kneeling in pain. He clutched his abdomen, shocked.
"What... what kind of ability is this…?"
He could feel his insides had been ruptured from within, though not a scratch marked his outer body. The unnatural sensation shook even him.
The Whitebeard Pirates erupted in panic, rushing toward their captain, only to be met by Akainu's merciless defense. One by one, they fell to his magma-laced fury.
Chiga glanced at them with cold indifference. Then, turning back to Whitebeard, he said calmly,
"Your sons are loyal to you. But it changes nothing. Today, you're destined to die here."
Whitebeard groaned and pushed himself upright. Clenching his fist, he summoned his quake power and hurled it toward Chiga.
Chiga shook his head slightly.
"Pointless."
With a wave of his hand, the tremor dissolved midair.
Then Chiga raised his fingers again and clenched his fist.
"Black Coffin."
A swirling mass of darkness formed on either side of Whitebeard, closing in on him and sealing him inside a black coffin of pure void, with only his face remaining visible.
Whitebeard strained against it, but it was like trying to fight the pressure of the sea. His body trembled, powerless to escape.
For the first time in decades, Whitebeard felt true helplessness.
"Am I… really this old now?" he asked himself.
But he quickly rejected the thought.
"No. This monster isn't normal. He's no human… he's a force of nature."
Shanks, still engaged with Big Mom, gritted his teeth. She clung to him relentlessly, her attacks wild and ceaseless. Though he could overpower her, he couldn't shake her off fast enough to rescue Whitebeard.
Chiga stepped closer to his trapped foe, the Rinnegan in his eyes glowing like twin galaxies. He spoke with quiet finality.
"Any last words, Whitebeard?"
The old man stared into Chiga's youthful face. After a heavy breath, he replied,
"I suppose you're after my Tremor-Tremor Fruit. Take it if you must. I only ask one thing... spare my sons."
"Old man!!!"
The Whitebeard Pirates sobbed, desperate to save him. But Akainu remained unmoved, the embodiment of justice unshaken by sentiment. Despair set in among them.
Chiga shook his head.
"You misunderstand. I don't need your permission to claim your power."
Whitebeard's eyes darkened, hope slipping through his fingers.
But then Chiga continued,
"That said... I might spare them—on one condition."
"What is it?" Whitebeard asked, eyes narrowing.
Chiga leaned in, his voice low, but clear enough to send a ripple through the entire battlefield.
"In front of the world, you will shout—
'One Piece is a lie. It doesn't exist.'"
"Nani?!"
Gasps erupted from all directions.
Even the chaos of war seemed to pause.
And as silence descended, all eyes turned toward Whitebeard—for the fate of his legacy, and the future of the Pirate Era, now hung on what he would choose to say.
