Chapter 4: Ah~, Nami
"That's right."
The purple-haired girl nodded gravely and replied,
"That guy is a Devil Fruit user. He can summon incredibly tough chains from his hands to attack and defend himself."
"As for other details, I'm not too sure."
"I only know that this group of pirates seems to have arrived in the East Blue recently, supposedly in search of some kind of treasure."
"Devil Fruit?!"
The orange-haired girl beside her had already regained her composure, but upon hearing this, she was once again taken aback.
After all, she had always believed that Devil Fruits were nothing more than a myth of the seas, not something that actually existed.
But the ability to summon chains out of thin air—if explained as a Devil Fruit power—suddenly made perfect sense.
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but glance at the purple-haired girl beside her, a thoughtful glint flashing in her eyes.
"So this little vixen of a thief, who's in the same trade as me, actually gathers intelligence more thoroughly than I do."
"No wonder I've never seen that crew in the East Blue before, yet they have so much treasure and such strong fighters."
"So they only arrived here recently from beyond the East Blue."
"Chains?"
Hearing about this ability, Will's mind suddenly made a connection.
He asked directly,
"You two—what are your names?"
The sudden question surprised the two girls, but they had no reason to lie or hide their identities.
After all, they weren't infamous pirates.
Nor did they carry high bounties on their heads.
So they weren't particularly worried that this man would recognize them.
They each answered,
"My name is Nami."
"Karina."
Their answers immediately confirmed Will's suspicions.
Looking at the orange-haired girl who had just introduced herself as Nami, he couldn't help but sigh inwardly:
"Ah~, Nami."
As an adventurer preparing to set sail, seeking out powerful opponents for battle…
Will had previously tried to teach himself about navigation.
But unfortunately, he had no talent for it whatsoever—the knowledge from books simply wouldn't stick in his mind.
So he decisively abandoned the idea of self-study.
Instead, he decided to find a professional navigator to join his crew.
And since he had read the original story, he didn't even hesitate—his first choice was to seek out Nami while she was still in the East Blue.
Yet before he could even set his plan in motion, she had unexpectedly appeared right in front of him.
If this wasn't fate, what was?
As for any resulting consequences or changes, Will couldn't care less.
He had finally arrived in the world of One Piece.
He had gained the opportunity to grow stronger and battle formidable foes.
He had even survived that unexpected shipwreck.
There was no way he would pass up the chance to recruit Nami just for the sake of Luffy.
Besides, in the early stages, Luffy had his Navy grandfather and Revolutionary father watching over him.
There was no need for Will to worry about him at all.
And without Nami's help, perhaps Luffy's journey would change in unforeseen ways.
Maybe he wouldn't end up getting gradually 'taken over' two years later.
Maybe he wouldn't lose control and laugh uncontrollably when his Devil Fruit awakened.
If luck was on his side…
Perhaps, with Zoro's help, Luffy could even reach Laugh Tale directly.
Wouldn't that be something?
Shaking off these complicated thoughts,
Will decided that once he handled the situation at hand, he would recruit Nami as his navigator.
With that in mind, he began to ponder the identity of the person chasing Karina and Nami.
"Chains as a power…"
"Could it be that treasure hunter from one of the movie specials? The one who once pursued Nami and Karina in the East Blue?"
Knowing that the enemy was a rare Devil Fruit user in this sea…
And realizing that he had yet to fight a Devil Fruit user in the past two years…
A glimmer of anticipation flashed in Will's eyes.
"A Devil Fruit user, huh? His strength should at least be decent."
Karina noticed that Will had fallen into deep thought after hearing their names.
She was about to say something when he suddenly turned away, staring intently ahead, and cut her off:
"Enough. Let me take care of this Devil Fruit user you mentioned first."
"We'll talk about everything else later."
Nami and Karina were briefly stunned, then immediately snapped to attention, their expressions turning tense as they looked toward the dense forest ahead.
The next moment—
A large group of people strode out of the jungle.
Over a dozen fierce-looking men gathered together, exuding an intimidating presence.
At the front stood a tall, burly man with a wild countenance.
He had coral-like rose-red hair and wore dark sunglasses.
His bare upper body bore a gear-shaped tattoo, and thick chains were wrapped around his neck and abdomen.
"Mad Tregear..."
Karina muttered his name with a grave expression, instinctively taking a small step back.
Although she could tell that the unexpected man beside her was strong…
She wasn't sure if he could take on Tregear.
So if things went south, she was ready to turn and run at any moment.
"Hmm?"
Tregear had barely stepped out of the jungle when he noticed his subordinates lying unconscious on the ground.
His footsteps halted immediately.
Then, shifting his gaze to Will, who stood protectively in front of the two girls, his expression darkened.
"Kid, who the hell are you, daring to lay hands on my men?!"
He highly doubted that the two women could have taken out his eight subordinates so quickly.
Which meant it had to be this unknown man's doing.
Before Will could answer, Tregear turned his attention back to Nami and Karina, tilting his head with a confident smirk.
"Or maybe… this guy is with you two little thieves."
"And this island is just your rendezvous point?"
Before Nami or Karina could reply, Will stepped forward, blocking the chain-user's view.
Then, expressionless and with a deliberately provocative tone, he said:
"Thieves?"
"Two young, beautiful girls."
"And just because they took a little something from you, you label them as criminals and chase them all the way here?"
"Where's the justice in that?"
"Where's the fairness?!"
As he spoke, Will's gaze turned cold.
"You pirates really are lawless scum."
Tregear frowned.
For some reason, these words grated on his nerves.
He instinctively snapped back,
"We're not just some lowly raiders who only know how to plunder! We're treasure hunters!"
He locked eyes with Will, his voice rising as he demanded,
"Just who the hell are you?!"
If not for the faint sense of danger he felt from this man…
He wouldn't have wasted time talking. He would have strangled him with his chains by now.
But he was cautious by nature.
So he held back, trying to glean more information from Will first.
He might look rough on the outside, but inside, he was anything but reckless.
