Chapter 11: Chapter 11: I, Jon, have never been inferior to others in my life
It was no wonder Kong and the others were shocked. The Conqueror's Haki was extraordinary. In the entire Navy, aside from Kong, only Sengoku possessed Conqueror's Haki. Such a power symbolized terrifying potential.
If a recruit with Conqueror's Haki had truly appeared, it would be of monumental significance to the Navy, even more compelling than the two Logia users Zephyr had just mentioned.
Seeing their misunderstanding, Zephyr quickly clarified, "No, it's not Conqueror's Haki; it's Observation Haki."
"Observation Haki?"
The four were stunned. They had assumed it was Conqueror's Haki, only to learn it was Observation Haki.
Even Garp was taken aback. "Observation Haki can be innate? Isn't that something one develops through training?"
They were shocked because individuals born with Observation Haki were incredibly rare—rarer even than those with Conqueror's Haki.
Moreover, Conqueror's Haki, strictly speaking, was predetermined at birth. Though this innate talent remained dormant until triggered by certain conditions, it was still part of one's potential from the beginning.
Observation Haki, on the other hand, was widely believed to be something one had to train diligently to awaken and refine.
Kong furrowed his brow. "I've heard of individuals innately possessing Observation Haki, but I've never confirmed it. I didn't think such a case truly existed."
Zephyr nodded. "I was surprised too when I heard, but the report came from the boy's father. He wouldn't dare fabricate such a claim. That recruit is very likely born with Observation Haki."
"And not just that—I suspect the boy might also be a Devil Fruit user, though there's no mention of it in the file."
"A Devil Fruit user too?"
Kong was astonished. This batch of recruits was remarkable; talents of all kinds were surfacing.
"If that's the case, we need to pay extra attention to him. His potential might rival the other two," Kong remarked.
Though not Conqueror's Haki, being born with Observation Haki still made Jon exceptional. Moreover, as someone from a Navy lineage, Jon was far more valuable and reliable than recruits drawn in through enlistment drives. It was no surprise that he garnered the attention of the Navy's higher-ups.
Zephyr said, "From now on, I'll be dedicating myself entirely to training them. I won't have time to perform the duties of an admiral."
Kong replied, "Understood. Since this is your choice, I won't press you. The seas are relatively stable at present, and Sengoku and the others should be able to handle most issues."
"Hey, kid, are you in there?"
Hearing that voice, Jon instinctively shivered.
Sitting in the living room reading, Monkey D. Dragon turned toward Jon. "Someone's looking for you?"
"Annoying," Jon muttered. He didn't want to deal with it, but since the visitor was already at the door, ignoring them would be rude. With a sigh, he reluctantly got up and opened the door.
As expected, it was that unforgettable face.
"Yo, kid! We're really destined to meet. I live right across from you!"
Kizaru pointed to the opposite door, grinning at Jon. The dormitories here were arranged similarly to university dorms from Jon's previous life, with two rows of rooms facing each other.
"What are you doing here?" Jon asked flatly.
With a familiar air, Kizaru chuckled. "I just happened to notice that you're living across from me, so I thought I'd come say hi. After all, we're friends now, right?"
Jon glanced behind Kizaru, where Akainu stood silently. This guy had even brought Akainu along.
Seeing Jon's gaze, Kizaru cheerfully introduced, "Jon, this is Sakazuki. He came with me from the North Blue. We're roommates now. You noticed earlier, didn't you? This guy's a monster."
Sakazuki said stiffly, "Sakazuki. From the North Blue."
Jon replied seriously, "Lyons Jon. From the South Blue."
"Come on in. I'll introduce you to my roommate."
After brief introductions, the four of them sat in the living room. Besides Jon, the others were all over two meters tall. Fortunately, the high ceilings of this world accommodated such towering figures, or the room would have felt cramped.
Watching Kizaru chat animatedly with Dragon while Akainu sat there coldly, Jon couldn't help but feel overwhelmed.
Two future Navy admirals and a future revolutionary leader were sitting together with him. The thought was enough to make Jon's head spin.
These three would one day stand at the pinnacle of the world. Watching them now, Jon felt a surge of determination.
I, Jon Lyons, will never be outdone by anyone!
Kizaru and Akainu stayed in Jon's dorm for a long time until someone came to call them to the cafeteria. The four of them went together.
Walking alongside Dragon, Kizaru, and Akainu, Jon felt increasingly out of place. These three were much taller than him, making the group seem unbalanced.
Jon had always thought his height of 1.8 meters was impressive—a dream height in his past life. Back in the South Blue, he never felt inadequate.
But here in Marineford, especially after meeting giants like Akainu, it became a sore point. No one would enjoy constantly craning their neck to talk, especially when one aspired to surpass these very people.
He thought bitterly, "I wonder if I can still grow taller."
At 17, Jon wasn't sure if he still had room to grow. In this world, where the average height seemed to be over two meters, his 1.8 meters felt woefully inadequate.
"Even if I can't reach three meters, at least let me hit two," he muttered dejectedly.
With such thoughts plaguing him, Jon followed the others. Marineford lived up to its reputation—the food was excellent, with unlimited portions of various meats.
During the meal, Jon was dumbfounded by Kizaru, Akainu, and Dragon's eating habits. He finally understood what it meant to eat like a bottomless pit.
The three of them ate from bowls as big as basins, consuming twice as much as Jon and at twice the speed.
The saying "appetite reflects strength" seemed to hold some truth.
After the meal, their instructor led them to collect their tailored training uniforms and begin familiarizing themselves with the Marineford base.
As new recruits, Jon and the others were restricted to certain areas and barred from accessing many classified locations.
This was where Dragon's familiarity with the base became invaluable. Having spent considerable time here with his father, Garp, Dragon provided frequent explanations for Jon and the others.
Among the recruits, groups often formed based on familiarity. For instance, those from the same sea tended to band together. Jon's small group of four, hailing from the South Blue, North Blue, and Grand Line, was a rare exception.
