Chapter 124
Banana Island, Totto Land waters
A uniquely designed large ship quickly docked.
On either side of its massive hull were tied two thick, log-like decorations, while the jet-black sails billowed in the fierce wind, prominently displaying the emblem of three enormous skulls.
This was the symbol of the Blackbeard Pirates, one of the Four Emperors of the New World.
"Right, this is the place. Pizarro's last message told me his location," said Shiryu, wielding a longsword as he leaped from the bow and landed on the sand.
Vasco Shot, with his ruddy, alcohol-flushed nose, sniffed hard and then looked towards the forest ahead.
"There's a strong scent of blood over there—Pizarro's scent."
Blackbeard's expression was cold.
Without a word, he strode purposefully towards the forest.
The crew members behind him followed suit.
Lafitte's white angel wings unfurled with a whoosh, lifting him into the air.
Van Augur, with practiced coordination, tossed his long-range sniper scope to Lafitte, who caught it and began scanning the island.
Blackbeard entered the forest, and soon, guided by Shot's keen sense of smell, they came upon a scene of devastation.
The ground was littered with shattered wood and in the center was a deep crater.
Scattered around the crater were countless tiny fragments of flesh.
"Pizarro..."
Blackbeard picked up a small piece from the ground—a severed finger.
It was a little finger, its joints unusually thick, several times larger than a normal person's.
The blood had long since vanished, leaving the skin shriveled and clinging to the bone, appearing almost decayed.
Shiryu picked up another piece of desiccated flesh, sniffed it and remarked calmly.
"His body was shattered, and his blood is gone. Seems like the opponent's ability is rather sinister. Hmm... Teach, doesn't this ability sound familiar?"
At that moment, Van Augur, who had been silent until now, adjusted his monocle and said.
"Ryokugyu, the new Marine Admiral, can drain the life force from people's bodies. Could it be the Marine's doing?"
Blackbeard's eyes flickered as he turned to Shiryu.
"Shiryu, I recall you mentioning on Hachinosu that Pizarro was chasing someone with a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit ability—one that allows transformation into a bat, right?"
Shiryu nodded. "Yes, that's what Pizarro said. You know how dissatisfied he's always been with his own ability. He coveted Kaido's Mythical Zoan Fruit the most. That's why he was so fixated on this lone traveler's power."
Blackbeard's expression shifted uncertainly.
After a long pause, he exhaled deeply and addressed the crew.
"Doc Q, return to the ship. Augur, you too. Stay on board and keep your distance. If possible, provide long-range support later—do not approach under any circumstances."
The crew was taken aback.
Shiryu shot Blackbeard a glance. "Teach, what do you know? Is the opponent that dangerous?"
Blackbeard's face was grave. "If it's really who I suspect, then no amount of caution is excessive. That old monster once defeated even Kong, the Commander-in-Chief of the World Goverment."
"A terrifying figure who, single-handedly, roamed the New World, standing toe-to-toe with Roger and Whitebeard."
Shiryu's eyes flashed with a bloodthirsty glint as he tightened his grip on his long sword.
A chilling killing intent gradually took shape, and he licked his lips with savage delight.
"The solitary Red Count, Patrick Redfield? Heh, I saw him back in Impel Down's Level 6. Truly a terrifying man. But back then, he seemed to be running out of time, looking like he was on the verge of dying of old age."
"Whoa! What are you talking about, Captain Teach? That exaggerated? Taking on the Commander in chief alone?"
Vaco's lips twitched, doubting whether he had misheard teach.
"Captain! I think I've spotted our target!"
Suddenly, Lafitte, holding a scope in mid-air, spoke up.
He raised his binoculars, gazing towards the other side of the island.
"Where?" Blackbeard immediately asked.
"On the opposite end of this island. It seems... he's having lunch."
Lafitte hesitated, sounding uncertain.
"Alright then. Shiryu, Lafitte, Vasco—we'll head across the island. Augur, you stay on the ship, keep your distance, and be ready to snipe in support."
Blackbeard swiftly issued orders before clenching his fists and marching in the direction Lafitte had indicated.
Moments later, when Blackbeard and his three companions arrived at the other side of Banana Island, the sight before them left him stunned.
Now he understood what Lafitte had meant by "having lunch."
On the beach, a man draped in a flamboyant crimson cloak was sprawled atop a hundred-meter-long Sea King, gleefully sucking its blood.
His absorbed expression resembled that of a baby happily nursing—except the constant trickle of blood from his lips utterly ruined the image.
The crunch of footsteps on the sand snapped Redfield out of his indulgence.
He lifted his head in confusion, looking at Blackbeard and the others.
His throat bobbed as he swallowed the blood in his mouth and his cheek visibly twitched.
A furious, humiliated snarl slowly twisted his face.
"You lowly ant, do you not know it's extremely rude to interrupt a noble's meal?" Redfield bared his fangs, revealing four sharp canines.
"So it really is you! Patrick Redfield!"
Blackbeard stepped forward, fists clenched.
Pitch-black darkness spread beneath his feet as he advanced, shrouding the beach.
At that moment, he resembled an emissary from the underworld, wreathed in black flames.
"Even the infamous Red Count must die for killing my men! I'll be taking your Devil Fruit power now!"
With that, the darkness surged forth as Blackbeard launched his attack.
His left hand splayed open, summoning a bizarre black vortex—and with it, an irresistible gravitational pull appear!
"What kind of power is this? Darkness?!"
Redfield's expression darkened as he felt his body being dragged towards Blackbeard, the Sea King beneath him sliding along.
But Redfield, with his vast combat experience, remained unfazed.
In an instant, he drew a peculiar umbrella-shaped sword from beneath his cloak and slashed out a brilliant, crescent-shaped wave of energy!
"Waltz of Sorrow!"
Behind Blackbeard, Shiryu's eyes gleamed with intensity as an overwhelmingly sharp killing intent erupted.
A chilling aura capable of splitting the skies unfurled and his slender crimson blade swept through the air before him.
With a metallic ring, Raiu was unsheathed!
"Slaughter Technique—Soul Reaper!"
