"Roar!"
Boom!
Monstrous, terrifying flames engulfed the world, turning everything into a hellish landscape. The air around them warped under the intense heat.
Boom!
In the blink of an eye, the inferno consumed Akainu, transforming into a colossal, flaming beast. Its maw, like an abyss, opened wide to devour everything in its path—burning all that it touched to ash.
"So this is the power of the Mera Mera no Mi... developed to such a terrifying extent," Akainu murmured, his voice emotionless as he gazed into the encroaching flames.
With just a glance, he understood.
Ace had achieved mastery over the Mera Mera no Mi—just as he, Aokiji, and Kizaru had done with their own Logia fruits. Ace had unlocked the full destructive power of the Mera Mera no Mi, one of the most devastating Devil Fruits within the Logia class.
In terms of sheer destructive capability, the Mera Mera no Mi even surpassed Aokiji's Ice-Ice Fruit and Kizaru's Light-Light Fruit.
However, Akainu bore the Magma-Magma Fruit—the Logia fruit representing pure, unadulterated destruction.
'Bubble! Bubble! Boom!'
Akainu's right arm morphed into molten magma, his boiling Magma shifting into the shape of a ferocious, snarling dog's head.
"Hellhound!"
With a fierce roar, Akainu swung his magma-arm forward.
'Boom!'
The magma, in the shape of a dog's head, extended forward like a feral beast on the hunt.
'Whoosh! Boom!'
The overwhelming power of the Magma-Magma Fruit exploded forth, like a primordial monster, tearing through the towering inferno in its path.
'Boom!'
The magma dog bit into the flames, breaking them apart into glowing embers that scattered across the sky before dissipating into nothing.
"Yes!"
Watching the broadcast, Sengoku, who had been tense this entire time, shouted in approval.
The Magma-Magma Fruit's fearsome attack power was well-documented as the most destructive in the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia, placing it at the pinnacle of Devil Fruits with its raw destructive capability.
Moreover, in the Devil Fruit hierarchy, the Magma-Magma Fruit was considered superior to the Mera Mera no Mi, with magma able to burn away even the fiercest of flames. This was why Sengoku had predicted Akainu's victory over Ace if they were to clash.
Ace's Mera Mera no Mi was completely countered by Akainu's Magma-Magma Fruit, which could neutralize his flames.
Without the power of the Mera Mera no Mi, Portgas D. Ace would still be a formidable force at the Admiral level, relying on his Conqueror's Haki and martial prowess. But the loss of his Devil Fruit powers would create a significant gap in his combat effectiveness.
The Four Emperors may have reached the pinnacle of the seas with their mastery of Conqueror's Haki, but their Devil Fruit powers were crucial to their dominance as well.
Kaido's Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon; Whitebeard's Quake-Quake Fruit, which could destroy the world; Big Mom's monstrous physique and Soul-Soul Fruit—all of these abilities amplified their terrifying power.
Even Shanks, who relied primarily on his Haki, had his own unique advantages.
Without their Devil Fruit powers, while still strong, the Four Emperors wouldn't command such overwhelming influence.
For the strongest on the seas, a Devil Fruit greatly enhances their combat power.
Ace, with his mastery of the Mera Mera no Mi, his advanced Conqueror's Haki, and his Observation Haki, which allowed him to see into the future, was unmatched—a near-perfect warrior.
In a battle against Kaido, the outcome would be impossible to predict until the very end.
But if the Mera Mera no Mi was neutralized by Akainu's Magma-Magma Fruit, Ace's otherwise perfect combat prowess would be compromised.
And that single flaw could be the deciding factor in a battle between top-tier fighters.
Akainu, armed with the most powerful offensive Devil Fruit, now had a real chance of defeating Portgas D. Ace in front of the entire world.
Despite the immense strength of Conqueror's Haki, it couldn't completely neutralize Devil Fruit powers. A powerful Devil Fruit could still penetrate through Haki.
This was why Akainu, even without mastering Conqueror's Haki, remained the strongest of the three Admirals—his raw destructive power was unmatched.
Even in the face of the Four Emperors, Akainu could hold his own.
"Akainu, if you can just take down Portgas D. Ace, Kizaru will be saved. He can't hold on much longer."
Sengoku stared at the screen, drenched in cold sweat. Kizaru, who had been backed into a corner, was moments away from defeat. If nothing changed soon, he wouldn't be able to escape his dire situation.
Rayleigh may have aged, with his Haki, swordsmanship, and stamina dulled over the years. Sengoku believed that in a one-on-one fight, Kizaru could outlast him thanks to his superior physical endurance and the speed granted by the Light-Light Fruit.
But at this moment, Kizaru was besieged by two other combatants, both with Admiral-level power.
Portgas D. Ace's navigator, Nami, had astonishingly awakened the power of the Thunder-Thunder Fruit. Through sheer determination, she had developed her abilities to the point of matching the battle experience of an Admiral.
Despite this, the blind, middle-aged man wielding the powers of the Gravity-Gravity Fruit posed a serious threat to Kizaru's Light-Light Fruit. Though it was clear to Sengoku that the blind man was not using his full strength, only assisting Rayleigh and Nami in their assault, Kizaru still found himself in a desperate situation.
If Nami's Haki had been stronger, and if Kizaru weren't focused primarily on defending against Rayleigh's attacks, he would likely have sustained serious injuries by now.
"Damn it!" Sengoku gritted his teeth. "Portgas D. Ace—what did you do to awaken the Thunder-Thunder Fruit in that girl Nami?"
Awakening such a powerful Logia fruit, despite her relatively weak Haki... it was unheard of in the seas. Yet it wasn't just Nami. Vivi, and Kaya had also awakened their Devil Fruit powers.
Even though Vivi's Haki was weaker than Nami's, she had managed to awaken Crocodile's Sand-Sand Fruit, a formidable Logia power. The Entei Pirates were an anomaly!
And the man responsible for this—Emperor of the Flame, Portgas D. Ace—was at the heart of it all.
Sengoku clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles turning white as he watched the Mera-Mera Fruit's flames being consumed by magma on the screen.
"Akainu, defeat him! Defeat Portgas D. Ace! As long as we can bring him down, the Marines will still have a chance!"
Although arresting Portgas D. Ace amidst the chaos caused by 'Pluton' Rayleigh, the blind man, and the entire Entei Pirates seemed impossible, Sengoku still hoped to salvage the Marines' honor in front of the world.
"Use your Magma-Magma Fruit to crush him! You have the power to suppress the Mera-Mera Fruit completely. This is your destined victory!"
Sengoku's body trembled with tension, veins bulging on his forehead.
"Sengoku…"
Garp watched his old friend, understanding what he was thinking. Sengoku was betting everything on the Magma-Magma Fruit's supremacy over the Mera-Mera Fruit.
But had Sengoku forgotten his own words? Had he forgotten that Ace, even at the age of ten, had shown the potential to surpass the limits of the Mera-Mera Fruit?
Ace's power wasn't just destructive—it was the embodiment of destruction itself, far beyond Sakazuki's destructive magma.
With a sigh, Garp realized Sengoku's heart was clouded by anxiety and desperation.
——
"Burn through my magma, you say?" Akainu sneered as his right arm transformed into searing molten Magma, standing amid the dissipating flames of the Mera-Mera Fruit. He glared at Ace from a distance, a smirk tugging at his lips.
"Portgas D. Ace, you're arrogant! Your flames are nothing compared to my magma—magma that even fire cannot burn! My power completely dominates yours. So, show me your Conqueror's Haki!"
As Akainu's smirk widened, he began his usual taunts.
"Sakazuki!" Kizaru, who had been forced into a corner and was wielding his light-sword, created through his Sparkling Fruit powers, finally saw a glimmer of hope. If Sakazuki could quickly defeat Ace and lend him support, Kizaru's situation might improve.
Alternatively, if some forces could be diverted to Sakazuki's side, he could use the speed of his Sparkling Fruit to delay the enemies until reinforcements arrived from Marine Headquarters.
As Kizaru held out, the powerful forces of the Marines were already en route. Once they arrived, Kizaru's crisis would be resolved.
"Magma Devil Fruit—indeed, the superior of the Mera-Mera Fruit as the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia claims," Rayleigh noted to Nami as he fought alongside the blind man. "Nami, I and Issho are doing fine here. Go help Ace. With your help, he can defeat Akainu using his Conqueror's Haki alone."
Rayleigh understood that although defeating Kizaru with just himself and Issho might take time, sending Nami to aid Ace was the safest strategy.
Even if the Mera-Mera Fruit was at a disadvantage against Akainu's magma, Ace, just with his Conqueror's Haki-infused attacks, still retained Admiral-level combat power. And in the seas, no one could triumph over two fighters of Admiral-level strength working together.
However, the problem was time. Defeating an opponent of Ace's level, even for two Admirals, was a lengthy process, and time was something they didn't have in abundance.
The other members of the Entei Pirates were still battling the Vice Admirals Akainu and Kizaru had brought, and while they held the upper hand, defeating them would also take time.
With the headquarters so close, Marine reinforcements could arrive at any moment. Rayleigh's plan had been to incapacitate or capture a key combatant before Marine forces arrived.
But Rayleigh worried that if Ace struggled too much against Akainu, it could affect his confidence—an essential trait for a fighter at the top of the sea. Ace's future strength and growth were paramount, and Rayleigh would rather face a harder battle than let Ace suffer a setback.
"No, Uncle Rayleigh, let's finish him off," Nami said with a playful grin. "Ace can handle it—he's going to be the king of the world, after all!"
Rayleigh paused before a smile crossed his face.
"Is that so?" He laughed before launching another powerful strike against the increasingly overwhelmed Kizaru.
Kizaru, watching his enemies show no signs of retreating or sending aid, felt his hope begin to wane.
'Sakazuki...make it fast... save me…'
'Boom!'
"Superior?" Ace chuckled, watching Akainu as his smirk deepened into laughter.
"Hahaha! Is that what you think, Akainu?"
"What's so funny? Can't you even acknowledge an undeniable truth?"
Akainu sneered. "How disappointing, Portgas D. Ace."
By this point, Akainu had stopped using the name "Gol D. Ace" in an attempt to unsettle him—it was futile now. Yet, he couldn't resist continuing his verbal attacks, staring at Ace with scorn.
"You know, Akainu," Ace began, the smirk on his face widening as he gazed at the sky, where his flames were being consumed by the magma.
"I've been waiting for the arrival of your Magma Fruit for a long time. It feels like fate. Only this fruit could bring such a confrontation. I've always sensed it."
Akainu's eyes narrowed as Ace's fiery determination grew even more intense, his gaze burning with the power of the Mera-Mera Fruit.
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Akainu's expression darkened. His Observation Haki was warning him—something was about to shift, something he couldn't control.
Ace's grin deepened. "Akainu... you will be the fuel that propels my Mera-Mera Fruit to new heights!"
Laughing, Ace closed his eyes.
Suddenly, the scene before him changed.
When Ace opened his eyes again, a plain-looking middle-aged man with long hair and a beard stood before him.
"It's been a thousand years, Yhwach," Ace's voice spoke, but it carried an ancient tone, as if someone else was speaking through him.
"Your life ends here, with me!"
"Bankai! Zanka no Tachi!"
