Chapter 48: The Straw Hat Pirates' Navigator, Picking Up Enel

Two weeks later.

After several months, Link and Nami once again returned to Reverse Mountain.

Unlike last time when there were only two of them, this time they were accompanied by four companions.

This time, Link still didn't see Laboon. However, at the Twin Capes, he sensed an aura.

That aura belonged to the Roger Pirates' doctor... Crocus.

But under the sea, Link didn't sense Laboon's presence. Apparently, Laboon was no longer here.

Link wasn't surprised. Because Brook had gotten his shadow back four months ago, he should have returned to the Twin Capes to reunite with Laboon and Crocus.

They were now either somewhere on the Grand Line or had returned to the homeland of the Rumbar Pirates and Laboon.

If it was the latter, he wondered if Luffy's protagonist halo would still be enough to recruit Brook.

Link didn't go to greet Crocus.

After mooring the sailboat, Link flew onto the side wall of the waterway, defied gravity to climb to the top of Reverse Mountain, then entered the channel connecting to the East Blue, quickly returning from the first half of the Grand Line to the East Blue.

Appearing in a flash outside the special ocean current, Link formed hand seals, and numerous branches extended from his body, quickly forming a small, single-masted sailboat without a canvas.

Pulling the sailboat beneath the Red Line, Link once again formed hand seals, and a branch immediately extended from the wall, tying up the sailboat like a rope.

After doing all this, Link flashed back into the waterway and quickly returned to the first half of the Grand Line.

Next, Link transported Carina and the other five girls, along with an oversized backpack full of supplies, onto the new boat.

"If you run into trouble, remember to call me."

Link stood on the surface of the sea, made a calling gesture to Carina and the girls, and said, "When I'm done with my business, I'll come find you."

"Be safe, Link."

"Remember not to overdo it, be careful."

"Goodbye!"

Carina and the girls waved goodbye to Link.

Link also waved back, then without watching them leave, he flashed into the waterway.

Link didn't go with Carina and the girls to Cocoyasi Village because he had important things to do.

With Perona's Devil Fruit ability and Vivi's Logia Sand-Sand Fruit, unless they encountered a super-strong opponent, it was impossible for anyone to be their match, whether in the Four Seas or the first half of the Grand Line.

Link was very confident in letting them act alone, so much so that he didn't even leave a Wood Clone behind to protect them silently.

This was also a test for them!

After returning to the Grand Line, Link exchanged a glance with Crocus from a distance and sailed away.

Watching the sailboat's departing silhouette, Crocus, who was reading a newspaper, couldn't help but sigh, "This year's rookies are truly incredible! Perhaps the era you were waiting for is about to arrive, Roger."

On the deck, Link sat under a sun umbrella, seemingly enjoying the sea breeze, but in reality, he was sharing the intelligence from his three Wood Clones.

The three Wood Clones, possessing immense amounts of Chakra, were scattered across the first and second halves of the Grand Line. Two were in the first half, and one was in the second, carrying out the tasks Link had assigned.

Of the two Wood Clones in the first half of the Grand Line, one was tracking the Blackbeard Pirates, using a sensory technique to lock onto Teach's position from hundreds of nautical miles away.

The other Wood Clone was monitoring the Straw Hat Pirates.

With a transmigrator like Link interfering, Luffy's brilliance was far less dazzling than in the original story.

In the original story, after the East Blue Saga, Luffy's first bounty reached 30 million Berries, 10 million higher than Arlong, the ruler of the East Blue.

Now, Luffy's bounty was only 23 million Berries.

Aside from Kuro, who was executed according to Marine records, the Marine investigation only credited Luffy with three achievements: defeating Axe-Hand Morgan, defeating Buggy the Clown, and defeating Krieg, who had fled back from the Grand Line.

Among them, Krieg had the highest bounty at 18 million Berries.

If Arlong hadn't died, Luffy's bounty definitely wouldn't have exceeded 20 million Berries, unless he proved it by defeating Arlong.

But Arlong had long been taken care of by Link and turned in at the Loguetown Marine base for the bounty.

Therefore, the East Blue no longer had a pirate overlord.

Luffy, having defeated two pirates with bounties in the tens of millions, naturally became the new ruler of the East Blue, and his bounty surpassed the original Arlong's.

Even now, Luffy's bounty hadn't changed.

Because of the Loguetown incident, the Straw Hat Pirates entered the Grand Line completely unprepared.

Fortunately, Luffy's straw hat was recognized by Crocus, who gave them a Log Pose.

Whether it was because the Log Pose had once been set to Whiskey Peak, the pull of destiny, or the protagonist's halo, the Straw Hat Pirates' route was the same as in the original story, only with fewer of the original challenges.

However, quite a few butterfly effects had appeared.

In the original story, the Straw Hat Pirates went to Drum Kingdom because Nami was bitten by a poisonous insect.

Now, it was because the Straw Hat Pirates, while exploring Whiskey Peak—half of which had turned into a forest—found a box containing several Eternal Poses.

One of those Eternal Poses pointed to Drum Kingdom.

Sanji knew a little about this country and mentioned it was once a great medical nation. Luffy, having just left Little Garden, decided to head to Drum Kingdom with the goal of recruiting a doctor.

Then, in Drum Kingdom, they encountered Ace, who was hunting Teach, and the brothers reunited.

Teach, just like in the original story, scared off Wapol and then headed to the Alabasta Kingdom to investigate how Link had defeated Crocodile in the desert.

So, Luffy followed Ace to the Alabasta Kingdom.

There, Luffy finally recruited a navigator.

This navigator was, surprisingly... Bon Clay!

This okama, who had earned Link's goodwill due to his performance in the original story and was thus lucky enough to survive, fell in 'love at first sight' with Luffy, just like in the original.

With all his companions dead, and after having buried them, Bon Clay chose to join the Straw Hat Pirates.

As the Wood Clone watched this scene, Link suddenly felt a sense of a dream being fulfilled.

In the original story, Bon Clay was definitely the one who sacrificed the most for Luffy, a presence more like a companion than any companion. If he had left Impel Down with Luffy, and hadn't become a member of the Straw Hat Pirates, the author would have definitely been beaten to death by the readers!

After recruiting Bon Clay, Luffy still parted ways with Ace in the Alabasta Kingdom and received Ace's Vivre Card.

Now, they had arrived at Jaya Island.

Luffy, representing light, also encountered Teach, representing darkness, on Jaya Island. With just one look, they knew they wouldn't get along.

Coupled with Luffy's low bounty and Teach now having Ace as his target, the forces of light and dark went their separate ways.

Teach continued to leave a trail, stopping at each next island for a while to see when Ace would catch up.

Luffy, on the other hand, with the help of the descendant of Montblanc Noland, rode the Knock Up Stream to Skypieha.

However, Luffy didn't notice that a figure had snuck into the cabin of the Going Merry, used a transformation technique to turn into a piece of furniture, and went with them to the sky island.

This figure was the Wood Clone.

The Rumble-Rumble Fruit counters Wood Style, making it difficult for Link to defeat Enel, who could teleport.

Since that's the case...

Then he wouldn't make a move himself. He would let the protagonist defeat Enel, and then he would just pick up the spoils
