One Piece: Gold And Fire

Chapter 31: Chapter 31 : Pirates Are Here [1]

Ragna stepped onto the island, his boots sinking slightly into the soft sand. The place was quiet—too quiet.

"I'll take a look, stay here and give the signal if anything happens okay," Ragna said to Nami who was still up on the ship.

"Why do we have to stop here, there is nothing on this island," Nami whined.

If she knew that this was an abandoned island then she never have said it to Ragna but her bad that her eyesight is not good enough to know that from several miles away.

"I'll be back soon. Just sit tight." Ragna sighed.

"You better be, or I'll be taking your ship and out of here." Nami chidded.

"That's thievery, are you sure you don't like pirates, you certainly are violent like them at times," Ragna asked though the last part was almost a whisper.

"Hah, there is no one else I hate in this world more than pirates." She shouted with completely white eyes and shark-like pointy teeth.

"Why do you hate pirates so much..." Ragna asked, even though he didn't outright hate pirates, he hunted them yes but it's not pure hate.

"None of your business..." Nami retorted.

"You are not a pirate are you ?" Nami asked threateningly.

"Hahaha... what if I am but hiding it from you." Ragna grinned to tease Nami."

"Then I'll have no problem murdering you in cold blood and take your ship..." Nami said with an evil laugh and Ragna even saw black lightning sparkling around her. He had a very obnoxious feeling seeing it.

"Okay okay...enough chit-chat, I'll be back soon. Give a signal if anything goes wrong..." Ragna said hurriedly.

"Okay..." Nami showed a thumps up.

'Geeze, maybe it's better for my health that I don't travel with her. What was that black lightning, I am sure she might be some sort of hidden boss or something. Maybe some sort of ancient monster who ruled the world...' Ragna hurriedly got out of there.

Nami seeing him go had conflicting feelings, she wanted to go with Ragna and another part of her wanted to stay back on the ship. It's just that she wasn't sure which option was the safest for her. So, when Ragna asked for her to stay behind, she just accepted.

With Nami staying back on the ship, Ragna decided to explore deeper. The goal was to find any habitation here. Though neither knew why they were looking for habitation in the first place. The freezer was full since it hadn't been long since they left Syrup Village and didn't particularly need to restock.

Maybe it was just for the sake of adventure.

As he walked through the dense forest, he noticed footprints in the dirt. Not just one or two, but many.

"We are definitely not alone here..." Ragna bent down to study the footprints like a certain white wolf. His hand instinctively went to the hilt of his sword as he followed the trail.

The deeper he went, the more signs of human presence he found. Broken branches, cut down trees, even an old fire pit with ashes. This wasn't an abandoned island—it was inhabited. Now the only thing left is to find out how they treat guests here.

Ragna pushed through the last of the trees and his eyes went wide. The scene almost paused him in his tracks.

Docked on the other side of the island was a massive ship—far bigger than his own. It towered over the shore, its black hull gleaming under the sun. The sheer size of it made his own ship look like a toy in comparison. He could see several cannons lining the side. And that wasn't the only ship there, though nowhere near as impressive as the larger ship, other ships were also pretty well. There were at least 7 ships there.

Then, his eyes travelled upward, and he saw the flag.

"A Jolly Roger." It was a pirate ship.

A skull with two hourglasses on either side. He didn't recognize it, but the sight of it alone told him everything he needed to know—this was no small-time crew. Whoever owned this ship was a big deal.

Ragna exhaled sharply, gripping his sword tighter. "One Kuro gave me trouble back then, for me to take all of this pirate down alone is..." Ragna didn't want to accept it but it was true, this time he might not be able to win against so many pirates. Though the numbers didn't make him afraid, it was not like he was alone either. Nami was there with him and this could be really dangerous for her.

"What do I do...?"

---

Nami sat on the deck of the ship, legs swinging over the side as she stared out at the endless blue sea. It had been a while since Ragna had left to explore the island, and boredom was quickly creeping in. She sighed, tapping her fingers against the wooden railing.

"That idiot, what's so interesting in this island to go adventuring..."

"Aaaaa, There's nothing to do…it's so boring" she mumbled to herself.

Her eyes drifted toward the ship, specifically to the captain's cabin—Ragna's room. At first, she ignored it. It wasn't like there was anything interesting in there… right?

No, she was lying. Very much so. She long wanted to check out what was in there but she couldn't while Ragna was here. She won't steal but she still was curious. Call it a thief's curiosity.

Her instincts started to tingle seeing herself completely alone. If only she knew that there are many more things which could be done while all alone...

She crossed her arms and looked away. "No, no, I'm not gonna snoop around."

A second passed.

"Maybe just a peek."

Before she knew it, she was standing in front of Ragna's door. She hesitated for a moment, then pushed it open.

She couldn't help it, her Nami Tingle was tingling the hell out of her.

[A/N: Tell me where's that reference from ?]

The room was surprisingly neat. Unlike the rest of the ship, which was a little messy, Ragna had clearly taken good care of his personal space. He had claimed the captain's cabin for himself, and it showed—the room was spacious, with a sturdy desk, a large bed, and even a shelf lined with books.

"He reads ?" That was Nami's first question. She almost disregards them as decorations when she notices many bookmarks on the books. Little did she know that outside training, Ragna also read much to learn more about this world.

"Not bad," Nami muttered, running a finger along the desk. 'Tch it sure looks expensive...' Her tingles were tingling harder now...

But she wasn't here to admire the interior. She started searching, opening drawers, checking under the bed—nothing special. Then her eyes landed on three bags sitting in the corner of the room.

Her curiosity spiked. She walked over and opened one of the bags.

Her breath hitched.

"S..ss.s. So much money."

She gulped, staring at the stacks of cash inside. It was just sitting there, unguarded, practically begging to be taken.

"The hell, ain't he a Bounty Hunter, do bounty hunters make this much money..." Nami thought, not even knowing that Ragna actually got Kuro's bounty already from Kaya's father and even before that he had quite a bit of money saved due to his adventures with Buggy Pirates in Orange Town.

Her fingers twitched. She could shove some of it into her pockets, and Ragna probably wouldn't even notice—

No. She shook her head, forcing herself to look away. It was her rule only to steal from Pirates. Just like Ragna not killing innocent, this was her bottom line which kept her grounded and sane.

Still, she couldn't help but wonder—"Why does that idiot have this much money just lying around? And more importantly, where did he even get it?"

Her eyes wandered to the other things piled next to the bags. It was mostly random junk—some extra clothes, a few old maps, and… something strange.

She leaned closer and pulled a large black cloth from inside. The moment she saw what was on it, her eyes widened.

"This..."

Nami felt a chill run down her spine as she stared at the black cloth.

"No, it's not possible... he kills pirates and never hurts innocent. So this..."

Nami was shaken seeing this for sure.

"I have to ask Ragna about this when he comes back..." She muttered and got up. Taking the cloth with her.
