Chapter 139: Valley of the Gods (Devil Fruit)

Not all members of the Rocks Pirates were present.

Ochoku, John, and Silver Axe had been sent flying by Roger and were nowhere to be seen. They likely wouldn't return anytime soon.

Whitebeard and the Golden Lion had hidden themselves, unwilling to face Rocks directly. They were probably waiting for the battle to near its conclusion before making their move.

Charlotte Linling was still locked in combat with Rayleigh.

The only other one left was Kaido, who was merely standing by.

But Kaido alone wasn't enough of a threat. Without the Azure Dragon Fruit, he was still weak—just a small fry.

As for the World Government, aside from Garp and the Five Elders, their forces had been almost entirely decimated. The remaining Celestial Dragons had either fled or were buried under the ruins of the once-grand palace.

Charlotte stood atop the ruins and scanned the area. Suddenly, something caught his attention.

He hurried over and began clearing away the debris, uncovering a large chest nearly half his height.

Without hesitation, he muttered, "God bless me! Give me a Devil Fruit!"

He reached for the lock and yanked it off effortlessly.

As the chest opened, a golden light reflected into Charlotte's eyes, temporarily blinding him.

"Tsk! Just gold," he muttered with disdain, though the box's contents were undeniably valuable.

The chest was filled with glittering gold bars, likely worth 500 to 600 million berries. While impressive, it was nothing compared to the potential value of a Devil Fruit.

Still, Charlotte decided to keep it. As he looked around, he realized there were four or five more similar chests buried under the rubble.

He worked quickly, pulling off the locks and uncovering their contents one by one.

Each box he opened revealed dazzling treasures, mostly gold and precious jewels. Combined, the treasure was worth well over three billion berries—a staggering sum.

"Damn it," Charlotte muttered, realizing the sheer volume of treasure would draw attention. He couldn't carry it all by himself, and if the others found out, he'd be forced to share.

"Guess I'll pick out the best for myself," he sighed, resolving to take what he could before the others arrived.

But Charlotte's movements, though deliberate, weren't entirely quiet. On the battlefield, Charlotte Linling was the first to notice his activity.

"Treasure! Charlotte! Leave some for me!" she shouted, abandoning her fight with Rayleigh and charging toward the ruins.

Rayleigh, catching his breath, chose not to follow. As a member of the Roger Pirates, he didn't want to get involved in the Rocks Pirates' internal squabbles. He decided to stay back, knowing the treasure would create enough chaos to serve as a useful distraction.

Charlotte Linling reached the ruins and immediately began digging through the rubble, her massive frame making quick work of the debris.

"Brother Kaido! Come quickly! There's so much treasure here!" she yelled, beckoning Kaido to join her.

Kaido, who had been observing the battle between Rocks, Roger, and Garp, hesitated. He had been learning a lot from their fight but couldn't resist Linling's call.

Soon, Kaido joined Linling and Charlotte in the treasure hunt.

Charlotte, meanwhile, was systematically uncovering more chests. Among the gold and jewels, he discovered a smaller box tucked inside one of the larger ones.

His heart skipped a beat—this was unmistakably a Devil Fruit container.

He didn't open it immediately, choosing instead to mix it with the larger chest's contents to avoid drawing attention.

Just as Charlotte was celebrating his find, Linling let out a triumphant laugh.

"Mmm-mmm! Kaido, look what I found! A Devil Fruit!"

She held up a fruit with a fish scale pattern—a Devil Fruit of the Mythical Zoan type. Charlotte's eyes narrowed in recognition.

The Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon.

For a moment, Charlotte's greed flared. He wanted to snatch the fruit for himself, but Linling quickly noticed his gaze.

Her expression turned wary as she clutched the fruit protectively, and Kaido stepped forward, ready to defend her.

Charlotte clenched his fists but ultimately suppressed his desire. He turned away and resumed searching, his movements faster and more frantic.

Within minutes, he uncovered two more Devil Fruits.

One was pure white, shaped like a cantaloupe, with a mirror-like reflective surface. Charlotte instantly recognized it as the Paramecia-type Mirror-Mirror Fruit.

This fruit, as seen in the original timeline, would later belong to Charlotte Brûlée. It allowed its user to create and manipulate mirrors, providing incredible versatility in combat and infiltration.

The other fruit was still unrecognizable to Charlotte, but he could sense its power.

Though his haul wasn't as impressive as Linling's Azure Dragon Fruit, Charlotte felt a bit of relief. He had at least secured something valuable amidst the chaos.

As the battle raged on around him, Charlotte couldn't help but feel a mixture of frustration and determination.

"Fate might not favor me today, but I'll make my own luck," he muttered, gripping the Mirror-Mirror Fruit tightly as he continued his search.
