Not long ago, somewhere along the Grand Line.
A pirate ship, designed with a flamingo motif, was speeding forward. If any merchant ship from the North Blue were to spot this vessel, they would flee in terror.
Onboard was none other than the Donquixote Pirates, once rulers of the North Blue and now causing trouble all over the Grand Line.
At this moment, Donquixote Doflamingo and his top officers were gathered in the ship's meeting room. In the center of the room stood a large table piled with maps, books, and an oddly cute Den Den Mushi.
Doflamingo was on a call.
"¥#%…"
"*&¥%...."
"Click!" Doflamingo ended the call and sat back down at the table.
"Fufufufu... Zean, that crazy woman, changed the meeting location at the last minute," he sneered. "Still as cautious as ever, even after all these years."
Pica, with his high-pitched voice, complained, "Doffy, that woman is too arrogant! Do we really need to work with her?"
"With our strength, we can easily defeat our competitors! Why share the spoils with her?!"
"Fufufu, you're not wrong..." Doflamingo stood up and walked over to a map, circling several islands. "But our goal isn't money. It's to secure stable territory."
He pointed to the circled islands. "These islands—perfect in terms of population, resources, and location."
"The only issue is that we can't avoid the watchful eyes of the G-2 Marine Branch."
"That's why bringing her in will help us avoid unnecessary battles. For us, it's a necessary move."
Pica frowned. "But does it really have to be her?"
Vergo, sitting at the table sipping coffee, looked up and said, "Zean knows us better than anyone in the G-2. If she's on our side, our security will increase. She's our best option right now."
"Nya-nya!"
Trebol, dragging his long, snotty nose, slithered over.
"Doffy, Vergo, that crazy woman is greedy. She's definitely going to demand a lot!"
Doflamingo and Vergo spoke in unison, "You're too close, Trebol!"
"Fufufufu... Greedy is good!"
"The slave trade is just a cover, bait for the real prize. We can give her all the profits, it doesn't matter."
"Besides..." Doflamingo's eyes glinted with malice, "Her greed will be her downfall. It'll be what puts her on the execution platform."
Doflamingo casually sat next to Vergo. "What do you think of the plan, buddy?"
Vergo nodded. "Doffy, whatever you want to do, I'll make it happen."
"Fufufufu, then I'll leave it to you..."
Just then, the door slammed open.
All eyes turned toward the intruder.
Doflamingo spoke calmly, "What is it?"
The tension in the room rose.
Though Doflamingo's voice seemed composed, his crew—who had grown up with him—knew his temper well. Interrupting one of his meetings was a deadly mistake.
From his fall as a Celestial Dragon to the cruel trials of his youth, Doflamingo had developed a deep respect for hierarchy. Those below him were never allowed to defy or interrupt those above.
The intruder, a young recruit named Senor, was clearly in trouble.
Though he had only recently joined the crew, Senor had already proven himself to be highly capable, reliable, and loyal. Doflamingo and the other officers even considered grooming him for a higher position.
But today, something was different.
Senor was pale, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead.
"Lord Doflamingo, there's a problem!"
"Diamante's life card... it's shrinking!"
A life card, a creation from the New World, is made by mixing a person's fingernails into the material, representing their life force.
If the card shrinks, it means the person's life is in danger.
Though rare, Doflamingo had managed to get his hands on some for himself and his top officers.
"What?!"
"That's impossible!"
Everyone in the room was shocked.
Senor held out his hand, revealing a small piece of paper with Diamante's name written on it. The card was burning, with only a small corner remaining.
"At first, Diamante's life card was fine. But then, just a few seconds ago, it started burning and almost disappeared."
Doflamingo's face darkened, veins bulging on his forehead. A murderous aura filled the room, causing even the top officers to flinch.
Senor, unable to bear the pressure, stumbled back against the door.
"Fufufufu... How dare they!"
"To attack my family... no matter who they are, I'll tear them to pieces!"
With that, he snatched the remains of Diamante's life card and leapt out the window.
"Doffy!"
His crew tried to stop him, but it was too late.
Using his ability, Doflamingo flew off, disappearing into the horizon within moments.
"Damn it!"
Vergo slammed his hand on the table.
"Pica, you have Doffy's life card, right? Take charge of the course!"
"Trebol, keep trying to contact Diamante. Let us know as soon as you have anything!"
"Senor, alert everyone. Full speed ahead!"
The crew sprang into action, following Vergo's orders.
…
On an island.
Diamante lay on the ground, his eyes rolling back and foaming at the mouth, looking more like a dead dog than a fierce pirate.
Smoker stood beside him and gave him a light kick.
"This guy's tough. He's taken all this damage and still isn't dead."
Tashigi glanced at Smoker, concern flickering in her eyes.
Smoker had transferred some of his pain to Diamante using his ability.
Just one-third of the pain had left Diamante in this state.
It was hard to imagine how much pain Smoker had endured himself.
Even though his Devil Fruit allowed him to absorb damage, the pain was still very real.
"Don't worry, Tashigi..." Smoker said, sensing her concern. "Years of training have made me far more resistant to pain than the average person. He's just weak."
If Diamante had been conscious, he would've cursed Smoker out.
Who in their right mind would train themselves to tolerate pain?!
Tashigi sighed, knowing Smoker was trying to ease her worries.
"What's the plan for him now?" she asked, glancing at the unconscious Diamante.
"It's best to bury him directly—clean and efficient."
"I already told you, I want to try something new..."
Smoker stretched out his hand, and a dark, oil-like substance oozed from his palm, slowly flowing toward Diamante.
"I've been working on a new technique, and I've never used it on anyone before."
"Perfect time to test it out with him—it can be considered a waste."
The darkness reached Diamante, forming a large, black sphere a few meters wide, which then slowly sank into the ground, leaving behind a half-circle crater.
Tashigi curiously asked, "What kind of technique is that?"
"It looks a lot like Dark Hole."
"This move is called 'Confinement.' It absorbs the target and the surrounding space entirely."
"In the darkness, he won't suffer from gravitational force, but he'll also never escape!"
"This technique is perfect for pirates. Let them reflect on their dirty lives in this enclosed space forever!"
Tashigi was stunned.
"Absorbing space? You can even do that?"
Her expression then softened with a hint of sympathy.
"Confinement, huh? Good name. Sounds scarier than Commander Gashi's detention cells!"
"But if you're not going to kill him, make sure to give him some air from time to time. Otherwise, he'll either die or go mad."
Smoker smiled slightly.
"Of course. He's a valuable test subject—I wouldn't let him die that easily."
Tashigi's eye twitched slightly.
Great, not only is he trapped between life and death, now he can't even die if he wants to.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed from a distance.
Navy soldiers were closing in on their location.
Smoker and Tina exchanged glances and nodded simultaneously.
*Bang!*
*Bang!*
Meanwhile, by the shore, Zean was having people set up a parasol and deck chairs, along with chilled drinks and fruit, ready to bask in the sunshine.
The sea breeze was gentle, lulling her into a drowsy state.
She sighed contentedly, "Ah, this is the life."
To the Navy's upper ranks, Zean had everything—a strong fighter with a brilliant mind, a top-tier candidate for leadership.
The only complaint they had was her love for luxury. She never denied herself any comfort.
"Share the hardships? Eat and live like the troops? No, thanks, that's not my style!"
Even if Sengoku or Zephyr came calling, she had one answer:
"I fought for my life out there, and I spend my own money. What's wrong with enjoying a little comfort?"
And if the Navy's internal audit unit ever showed up? Zean was always ready for them.
"What's that? You want to know where my money comes from?"
"Don't you know I'm a princess of the Kingdom of Tottenao?"
"Your audit team has no jurisdiction over the finances of an allied nation, right?"
"Are you implying the Navy can interfere with the internal affairs of a member country now?"
"Tsk tsk tsk... You've really stepped into it now!"
"You've stirred up a whole lot of trouble!!"
As Zean was about to doze off, she suddenly sensed something unusual.
Her expression remained calm as she slowly stood up, removed her sunglasses, stretched like a lazy cat, and then casually draped her justice coat over her shoulders.
A few seconds later, the faint sound of strings vibrating in the air echoed, like someone plucking a guitar.
"You're early, Doflamingo..."
The nearby Navy soldiers were startled to find a figure standing in midair, seemingly out of nowhere.
They gasped in shock, quickly raising their guns to aim.
Hovering above them, Doflamingo looked down at everyone below.
"Fufufufu, long time no see, Zean... Rear Admiral."
He had just arrived on the island, but the life card that had been guiding him suddenly stopped moving.
He wasn't sure why, but it couldn't be a good sign.
His gaze darkened as he scanned the beach, finally focusing on Zean.
"Where's Diamante?!"
Hearing this, Zean's anger flared.
Damn it, we agreed on a secret meeting, and not only did this lunatic show up early, but he also did it in plain view!
This place wasn't just full of her loyal subordinates—there were also Navy scientists around!
If anyone here caught wind of their dealings, it would be a disaster.
Zean took a deep breath.
Stay calm. Stay calm.
In a situation like this, she couldn't afford even a hint of weakness or compromise.
She could only pray that this fool didn't start talking about their cooperation in front of everyone...
Her thoughts raced, but outwardly she remained composed.
"I didn't expect to see you here, Doflamingo."
"Too bad, I'm on duty right now and don't have time to entertain you!"
"Put those dangerous strings away and leave quietly, and I'll pretend I didn't see you."
Doflamingo ignored her warning, his gaze cold as he repeated, "Where's Diamante?!"
Zean exhaled smoke from her cigarette, cursing inwardly—how the hell was she supposed to know?
"Who knows? He's probably somewhere on this island. If you search thoroughly, you'll find him."
Suddenly, she remembered a report from her subordinates that Diamante had headed to the other side of the island.
"If I had to guess, your man is probably waiting for you over there. Move quickly, and you might catch up with him."
Doflamingo lowered his head and murmured, "I see... over there, huh?"
Then, placing a hand on his forehead, he chuckled softly. The laugh was filled with both madness and sorrow.
Zean was perplexed.
What's with this guy? What's gotten into him all of a sudden?
Growing impatient, her tone turned sharp.
"Pirate Doflamingo, this is a Navy outpost. Leave now, or do you need me to escort you to your crew?"
At those words, Doflamingo snapped, screaming with fury:
"You wretched woman, I'll tear your head off with my own hands! I'll chop you up and feed you to the fish!"
"What did you say?!"
Zean's face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot.
Though she wasn't a bloodthirsty killer, her temper was certainly no worse than Doflamingo's.
She had lowered herself to be civil, and this guy had the nerve to hurl insults right back at her!
"Feathered freak, you're asking for it!"
"All units, open fire!!"
The Navy soldiers, sensing the rising tension, had already lined up and prepared for battle.
Now that they had the order, they wasted no time, raising their rifles and unleashing a barrage of bullets.
Nearby patrols, hearing the commotion, rushed back to the beach.
Seeing the chaotic scene, they didn't hesitate and joined in the assault.
Amidst the chaos, no one noticed two unfamiliar Navy soldiers blending into the ranks...
