....

Under the Sea King's pull, the pirate ship shot across the ocean like an arrow.

Gavent burst into maniacal laughter.

"Hahaha! This is amazing! I actually escaped from an Admiral!"

"Hey, you lot! Shouldn't you be cheering for me?!"

Smoker and Tina ignored the madman, gripping the ropes tightly to avoid being thrown off the ship.

Gasparade, who had been annoyed by Gavent's arrogance for a while, couldn't take it anymore.

With a furious shout, he charged forward.

Gasparade threw a punch, but Gavent smirked and extended his fist.

Their punches collided, but then Gasparade's hand turned into soft candy, trying to wrap around Gavent's fist.

Gavent snorted and swiftly yanked his hand back.

Gasparade was stunned, shouting, "Impossible!"

He knew that powerful opponents could break free from his candy powers, but Gavent did it so easily, like the candy had no effect at all.

Gavent sneered, as powder fell from his arm.

"I've been watching you fight. You seem to have the ability to stick to your enemies."

"This is scale powder—moths use it to escape spider webs."

With that, Gavent released a puff of white powder, which covered Gasparade before he could dodge.

"Ugh, what is this stuff?!"

With a swift kick, Gavent sent Gasparade flying into the ship's railing, breaking it and sending him crashing into the sea.

Tina's face was full of shock.

She had only ever seen their instructor manage to hit Gasparade.

"Gasparade's down?! Why could he attack him? Does he have Haki?!"

Smoker, who knew the truth, shook his head.

"No, this guy figured out the weakness of the Candy Fruit."

"Flour can harden the candy. As long as it touches flour, anyone can hit Gasparade."

Gavent scoffed.

"Oh? So there's someone sharp among the Navy, huh?"

After falling into the sea, Gasparade quickly lost his strength, struggling to stay afloat. In just a few minutes, he would surely drown.

At that moment, Gaget used Moon Walk to catch up to the ship.

Seeing Gasparade struggling in the water, he was torn. If he continued to chase the ship, Gasparade would die. But if he saved Gasparade, he would lose the pirates.

Hovering in the air, Gaget hesitated.

Looking between the ship and Gasparade, his face was full of conflict.

Finally, gritting his teeth, he dived into the water, pulling Gasparade out.

Sorry, Smoker, Tina... please don't die!

The Sea King raced forward, covering miles in minutes, before suddenly beginning to dive.

"Not good, it's going under!" Smoker immediately cut the anchor chain.

With a deep growl, the Sea King submerged, leaving the pirate ship spinning in the whirlpools and waves.

Once the ship settled, Gavent slowly stood up, his eyes flashing with disdain as he looked at the Navy officers.

"Your comrades are dead, aren't you going to join them? Goodbye, Navy!"

"Hallucination Powder!"

Colorful dust burst forth, instantly covering the entire ship.

"This powder will make you hallucinate. I won't even need to fight—huh?"

Gavent suddenly noticed the powder thinning out before his eyes, rapidly disappearing.

When the dust cleared, he saw a dark aura surrounding Smoker, absorbing the powder.

Gavent was shocked.

"Damn it! You're a Devil Fruit user too?!"

Earlier in the battle, Gavent had secretly observed from the ship's cabin.

He had noticed Smoker but didn't see him use any powers, assuming he was just a physical fighter.

Who would have thought he'd hidden his abilities so well?

Still, Gavent wasn't too worried. He figured if Smoker's power was that strong, he would've used it earlier. This thought calmed him down.

"Hmph, what an elusive guy. Kid, what's your ability?"

Smoker's expression turned strange.

"Why would I tell you that?"

Gavent was stunned for a moment, his face turning as dark as coal.

Just as he was about to attack, Smoker spoke again.

"Since it's finally quiet, Tina, you take care of him."

"Wait, what?!"

Tina was surprised but didn't back down.

"Alright, leave him to me!"

She clenched her fists, ready for battle.

"Hold on..." Smoker grabbed her and extended his right hand.

"Release!"

From the darkness, a white Devil Fruit slowly emerged.

"This Devil Fruit is for you... Don't worry, it's perfect for you."

Tina's eyes sparkled as she took the fruit.

Gavent's eyes narrowed. He raised his hand, iron dust forming into a long blade.

"Iron Dust Slash!"

A sword slash shot toward Tina.

Smoker quickly stepped in front of her, taking the hit head-on.

Even though he used Iron Body, a huge gash appeared across his chest, and blood gushed out. The intense pain made Smoker grit his teeth.

"Ugh... What a brutal attack! Don't worry, I'll pay you back for this!"

"Tashigi, hurry up and eat it!"

"Alright!"

Despite her concern for Smoker, Tina knew there was no time to waste. She quickly bit into the fruit.

"Damn it!"

Gavent panicked and sent out two more slashes.

"Double Iron Dust Slash!"

This time, Smoker dodged, exposing (Tina)Tashigi to the attack.

The slashes hit (Tina)Tashigi dead on, slicing her into three pieces.

Gavent relaxed slightly.

"Hah! Idiot!"

But to his shock, Tina turned into smoke, her body quickly reforming.

Gavent's jaw dropped.

"What... What kind of power is this?!"

Smoker, his wounds healing rapidly, smirked.

"Since you like knowing about Devil Fruit powers before a fight, I'll tell you."

"This is recognized as one of the strongest Logia-type Devil Fruits—the Smoke Fruit."

"Smoke Fruit?!"

"Logia?!"

Two voices shouted at once—Tina in excited disbelief, and Gavent in sheer terror.

Smoker grinned.

"Gavent, let's see if you can find this fruit's weakness..."

With that, Smoker stepped back, leaving the battlefield for Tina.

...

An hour later, the battle was over.

Gavent lay battered and bruised on the deck, unable to move a finger. Against a Logia user, and without Haki, he was completely defenseless. None of his attacks could cause any harm.

The only reason the fight lasted this long...

An hour later, the battle was over.

Gavent lay battered and bruised on the deck, unable to move a finger. Against a Logia user, and without Haki, he was completely defenseless. None of his attacks could cause any harm.

On one hand, Gavent wasn't weak—his combat ability was stronger than Tina's.

On the other hand, Tina was also using the fight to familiarize herself with her new powers.

Even though it was just a single battle, Tina's control over the Smoke Fruit had improved significantly.

Gavent, however, was just plain unlucky.

If they weren't stranded in the middle of the sea, he could have easily escaped using his full strength, and Tina wouldn't have been able to stop him.

But with nowhere to run, he had no choice but to keep fighting until his stamina was completely drained.

Tina stood to the side, panting heavily and drenched in sweat.

"Whew... this guy is really tough to deal with..."

Despite the victory, Tina wasn't entirely satisfied.

Though she had won, it was mostly because of her Devil Fruit abilities.

In her mind, it didn't feel like an honorable win.

"One step at a time," she reminded herself. "After all, even before he ate his fruit, he had a bounty of over 100 million berries..."

Smoker walked over and supported Tina by the shoulder, using his own fruit powers to absorb her fatigue and then channeling it back into Gavent.

Already exhausted, Gavent's eyes rolled back, and he fainted immediately after receiving even more fatigue.

Tina stretched and raised her hand, a swirl of white smoke forming in her palm.

"The Devil Fruits really are incredible! This feeling is so amazing!"

Smoker nodded.

"In the Four Seas and the first half of the Grand Line, Logia-type abilities are nearly invincible."

"But remember, abilities are just the icing on the cake. Physical strength is the foundation!"

Originally, Smoker had planned to wait until Tina was stronger before giving her a Devil Fruit,

but Gasparade's reckless, indiscriminate attacks earlier had made him realize the danger.

This time, Smoker had been there to block the attack for Tina.

Though Gasparade's fate was still uncertain, who could guarantee that such a situation wouldn't happen again?

Even tigers have moments of carelessness—Smoker couldn't be by Tina's side forever.

So, giving her the fruit earlier at least added a layer of protection.

Tina wasn't thinking that far ahead; she was focused on mastering her new abilities.

"Don't worry," she said. "Tina won't become one of those idiots who get cocky just because they gain new powers! I know developing the fruit's abilities is important, but I won't neglect physical training either! Still..."

Tina glanced around. "What's our next move?"

Smoker lit a cigarette and shrugged helplessly.

"While you were fighting, I checked the ship. The sails, rudder, and anchor are all broken..."

"For the time being, we're stuck on this ship..."

"What?!" Tina gasped in horror.

Drifting aimlessly on the Grand Line was never a good thing...

But even if the pirate ship were in perfect condition, it would be impossible for just the two of them to steer it.

"Then... should we use Moon Walk to get back?"

Smoker shook his head.

"We were dragged by that Sea King and then drifted for so long, we're at least a hundred kilometers off course by now."

"That's way too far to travel with Moon Walk."

Moon Walk consumed a lot of energy.

It was fine for short distances, but flying for that long was out of the question.

"Besides, we don't even know which direction to go. It's better not to risk it..."

"This... fine."

Tina nodded reluctantly. "Let's take stock of the supplies on board. We don't know how long we'll be stuck here."

Smoker agreed with her suggestion, and the two began searching the ship.

As expected, the Blood Wolf Pirates were quite wealthy, and since this was their main ship,

Smoker and Tina soon found plenty of food and fresh water, along with a significant amount of treasure and weapons.

Tina breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thankfully, we have enough food and water to last us a long time."

Smoker nodded but then looked disappointed.

"Too bad we didn't find a Den Den Mushi. If we had one, we could get out of here right away... Oh well, let's store the supplies first."

With that, he activated his power, releasing a dark aura that absorbed the food and water.

Unlike Blackbeard, Smoker had mastered his gravity ability to a precise degree. Even though Tina was standing right next to him, she didn't feel any disturbance.

"Your ability is really convenient..."

"My ability is gravity..." Smoker explained.

"Absorbing damage and storing items are just results of further developing the power."

"The Smoke Fruit probably has unique abilities as well. You'll figure them out soon."

With that, Smoker went to the next room to store the treasure and weapons as well.

Afterward, the two settled into a routine of drifting at sea.

They spent their days on the deck, conserving energy by not training. Instead, they took turns using their powers—one releasing white smoke, the other black—in hopes of attracting a passing ship.

Unfortunately, luck wasn't on their side.

One day passed, then two... five days... ten days...

Not a single ship appeared in the distance.

Meanwhile, Gavent's condition worsened.

Severely injured, his health continued to decline.

Smoker wasn't particularly sympathetic and didn't plan on helping him.

After all, the crimes Gavent had committed couldn't be atoned for with a single life...

Smoker watched him daily without a hint of emotion, ready to throw him into the sea the moment he took his last breath.

One day, Smoker had an idea. He took out a piece of fruit and placed it next to Gavent.

Tina, curious, asked, "Smoker, what are you doing?"

Was he offering a tribute to Gavent?

Not only was that a waste, but Gavent wasn't even dead yet...

Smoker stared at the fruit intently.

"Just running a little experiment. We'll see the results soon enough."

A few hours later, Gavent finally breathed his last.

Almost immediately, strange patterns began to appear on the surface of the fruit, transforming it into a Devil Fruit.

Tina was shocked.

"What's happening?!"

Smoker's expression remained calm, but his eyes gleamed with excitement.

"As I suspected, this is his Powder Powder Fruit..."

"When a Devil Fruit user dies, their ability randomly transfers to a nearby fruit. Of course, the exact mechanism still needs further research..."

Though Smoker explained it matter-of-factly, there was a glimmer of thrill in his eyes.

Could this be how Blackbeard hunted Devil Fruit users?

If that were true, the potential was enormous!

Even amidst his excitement, Smoker didn't forget to warn Tina.

"Tina, you must never tell anyone about this, understood?"

Tina nodded furiously.

She had no interest in getting involved in such a secretive matter.

After Gavent's death, their days grew even more monotonous.

A month passed...

They had consumed more than half of their food and water.

Fortunately, it had rained twice, and Smoker used his powers to collect a large amount of water, easing their immediate crisis.

As for food, they had no choice but to fish.

Honestly, considering how dangerous the Grand Line was, the fact that they had drifted safely for so long without a functioning ship was nothing short of a miracle.

Smoker wasn't sure if his luck was good or bad.

One day, the two sat by the edge of the ship, fishing.

A column of black smoke rose from one head, while white smoke billowed from the other, both reaching up into the sky...

Suddenly, Tina dropped her fishing rod, pointing ahead with wide eyes.

"Sm-Smoker! Look over there—is that an island?!"

Smoker froze, then quickly squinted into the distance.

Moments later, he shouted excitedly,

"It is! It's an island!!"

The only reason the fight lasted this long...
