Chapter 131: The Roger Pirates' Empty Haul
"What in the world is going on?" Kong asked, his arms crossed, a solemn expression on his face.
The Lieutenant Commander conveying the message moved aside.
At the same time, several figures in white suits and iron masks covering the upper half of their faces entered from outside the office.
Upon seeing the newcomers, the Marines in the office immediately changed their expressions.
CPO?
What exactly had happened? To think they would be stirred into action, and from the sounds of it, it was merely to relay a message. What intelligence could be so important to them?
"Fleet Admiral Kong, as just stated, all Marine movements in the New World are to be focused entirely on the Roger Pirates. Other matters can be temporarily put aside, and that naturally includes the battle between Alucard and Whitebeard." A man of average height, wearing an iron mask that obscured the upper half of his face, spoke indifferently.
"Explain clearly, CPO." Although the other party was a direct agency of the World Government, as the highest representative of Marine Headquarters, Kong couldn't let the Marines lose face.
The CPO agents, whether genuinely not wanting to provoke Kong or simply due to the urgency of the situation, quickly stated, "Roger previously landed on an island of ruins called Concordia."
Concordia?
The younger Marines present looked confused, while veterans like Kong instantly understood the CPO's meaning, as he had signed the documents for the destruction of Concordia.
It was a nation brutally annihilated due to suspicions of harboring intelligence related to the World Government's establishment.
After its destruction, it became a complete wasteland, now entirely erased from maps. Furthermore, to avoid appearing suspicious, the government hadn't stationed any Marines there. That's why Marines of younger age and less experience had no idea what "Concordia" was.
The CPO continued to explain, "We re-investigated the Roger Pirates' decades-long voyage and found that every location suspected of containing historical relics has been visited by the Roger Pirates over these past decades. And Concordia was the last one."
The others felt completely lost, not understanding what the World Government's scoundrels were talking about. Only Kong understood, and an unprecedentedly serious expression appeared on his face. "Are you implying that the Roger Pirates have already..."
"It's entirely possible." The CPO agent nodded, half-turning. "What follows is strictly confidential and cannot be leaked. Please come to Mariejois for a meeting with the Elders." With that, he turned and left the Fleet Admiral's office.
All the Marines in the room immediately focused their gaze on Kong. He stood with his arms crossed, eyes closed in silence. After a long moment, he slowly opened his eyes and said, "Notify New World G1 and G5 Branches. All Marine fleets are to be dispatched, with the Roger Pirates as their target."
"Yes, sir!"
Everyone in the room snapped to attention and saluted.
They were all Marines who had been promoted to their positions through the strictest selection, knowing what to ask and when to keep silent.
The CPO had declared it top secret; daring to ask further wasn't just being loose-lipped, but a death wish.
However, just four days prior, the Roger Pirates had indeed landed on Concordia. The man who brought them there was a member of the Roger Pirates' crew named Generous Mogukun.
Three years ago, he joined the Roger Pirates as a swordsman, carrying a bounty of 66 million Berries. His real name was actually Andoria Mogukun.
Mogukun's true identity, like Alessia's, was one of the royal family members of the Concordia Kingdom who escaped the great catastrophe twenty years ago. He was actually Alessia's uncle, but Alessia herself didn't know his true identity. And Mogukun never imagined his little niece was still alive, let alone that she would become a Marine... It was possible these uncle and niece would never recognize each other in this lifetime.
Now, back to the Roger Pirates.
Three years ago, Roger encountered Mogukun, who was living as a wandering pirate hunter under an assumed name. Mogukun was invited to join the Roger Pirates. After two and a half years, moved by Roger's unique charisma, he revealed his true identity.
Roger, in turn, told Mogukun that he had already deciphered three of the four Red Poneglyphs without the World Government's knowledge; only Concordia Kingdom's was left.
Furthermore, he already knew the location and method of using one of the Ancient Weapons, Pluton. The entire world, however, remained ignorant.
Mogukun was overjoyed. He revealed the location of the last Red Poneglyph to Roger, hoping to uncover the World Government's secrets and achieve revenge for his nation. But sadly, he knew deep down that this was impossible.
Roger's body was reaching its limit. He couldn't accomplish such a feat.
However, Mogukun still chose to assist Roger, giving him the historical Poneglyph within the Concordia ruins.
Yet, when Mogukun and the Roger Pirates arrived there four days ago, just as they were about to extract the Poneglyph, they were astonished to find the entrance destroyed, with very fresh damage.
The Poneglyph inside was also gone!
This indicated that they were a step too late; the Poneglyph had been discovered and moved recently.
"Now... what do we do?" In the secret chamber that should have held the Poneglyph, Mogukun anxiously asked Roger and Rayleigh, who stood beside him.
