Chapter 73: Chapter 73
Whoosh!
Crack!
Boom!
Two figures darted and clashed, their movements a blur of speed and power. The scene was electric with energy and tension.
"Hmph," one of them scoffed.
"You're not bad. Got some skills, I'll admit that."
"But…"
The voice, gruff and deep, carried an edge of mockery.
"Looks like your crew is missing someone. And you shouldn't be wasting your time fighting me to the death."
The speaker, a hulking Fish-Man with a menacing visage, gripped a weapon resembling a trident. His tone was as sharp as his weapon, his imposing presence dominating the battlefield.
Across from him, Zoro faced the towering Fishman in combat.
"Heh," Zoro chuckled, his tone calm but menacing. "Hody Jones."
"What's with all the chatter? Sure, our captain isn't here, but..." His three swords gleamed as he shifted his stance. "...I alone am more than enough."
Without hesitation, Zoro lunged forward, his blades slicing through the air.
"Clang! Snap!"
The clash of steel and sheer force echoed as their weapons met. Hody Jones smirked, his sharp teeth glinting in the light.
"Zoro," Hody sneered. "How unfortunate for you. You're not strong enough. If your captain, that Straw Hat Luffy, were here, perhaps he'd pose some challenge to me. But you?" He scoffed. "You're nothing."
Hody's weapon, a trident-like blade, spun violently, creating a gale that pushed Zoro back. The strain showed on Zoro's face as he struggled to maintain his footing.
"Damn it," Zoro muttered, his arms trembling under the pressure. "Taking out that Fishman swordsman earlier drained me more than I thought."
He knew this wasn't a sparring match. There was no room for fairness, no rules. This was a fight for survival, and giving up wasn't an option.
"Three-Sword Style!"
With a roar, Zoro unleashed a furious onslaught, his blades cutting through the air with blinding speed. He needed to end this quickly.
Blood dripped from his hands as the strain took its toll, yet Zoro's resolve never wavered. From the sidelines, Nami and the others watched with worry etched across their faces.
"If Luffy were here," Nami whispered, "this would already be over."
The others nodded in reluctant agreement. No one doubted their captain's strength, but they also understood the situation: even if Luffy were present, this fight couldn't have been avoided. Words wouldn't stop Hody Jones.
Zoro roared again, pouring every ounce of strength into his attack.
The clash of their weapons sent shockwaves rippling through the battlefield. For a moment, it seemed Zoro had the upper hand, as Hody stumbled back, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
"You're good," Hody admitted, a twisted grin spreading across his face. "Not bad at all, Pirate Hunter Zoro. You've got guts."
But then, his grin widened as he reached into his pocket. "Unfortunately for you, guts won't be enough."
From his hand, Hody revealed a capsule—a drug.
"Huh?" Zoro's eyes narrowed, sensing danger.
Before he could react, Hody popped the pill into his mouth and swallowed. Instantly, his hair turned stark white, and his body began to transform. His muscles bulged, and an overwhelming aura of power emanated from him.
"What the hell is that?" Zoro muttered, alarmed.
Hody's laughter filled the air as his newfound strength surged. "What's the matter, Zoro? Scared? This is the true power of the Fishman race, enhanced by these Energy Steroids. You're finished!"
The sudden spike in Hody's strength was palpable. Zoro gritted his teeth, feeling the oppressive weight of his opponent's aura.
"Even so," Zoro growled, "I'm not losing here."
Despite the odds, a fire burned in Zoro's eyes. His determination only intensified at the sight of Hody's monstrous transformation.
"Bring it on," Zoro challenged. "I'll show you what I've got."
Hody let out a guttural laugh, charging forward with blinding speed. Zoro stood firm, his swords raised and ready.
"I am Zoro," he declared, his voice unwavering. "Even if Luffy isn't here, I'll protect my crew. Come at me!"
Yet, as he braced for Hody's attack, a fleeting thought crossed his mind, filled with exasperation.
"Damn it, Luffy! Where the hell are you? You idiot! Leaving us to deal with this mess... Are you even human?"
Meanwhile, laughter erupted in the kitchen of a Marine base.
"Luffy!" A playful, sweet voice rang out. "You've done it!"
The voice belonged to none other than the pink-haired beauty. She beamed with pride as Luffy held up a steaming piece of food in his hand.
"Everyone!" Luffy declared with unbridled enthusiasm. "Ladies and gentlemen, we've done it! We've cracked the code! Witness the perfect spicy strip!"
Luffy took a bite, savoring the flavor. A look of sheer bliss spread across his face.
"Yes!" he exclaimed. "This is it. This is the taste of heaven. It's perfect. Exactly like how I remember it!"
His excitement was contagious. Around him, the dozens of Marines—now loyal to Luffy—cheered and scrambled to grab their share of the spicy strips.
"This is amazing!" one Marine shouted, his mouth full. "Luffy-sama, you're a genius!"
"Truly the world's greatest delicacy!" another proclaimed, tears streaming down his face.
Luffy's heart swelled with satisfaction as he watched the Marines devour the spicy strips. His invention had succeeded, and the joy in the room was palpable. For a brief moment, Luffy felt the warmth of his previous life and the fond memories of this simple treat.
"I'm glad you like it," Luffy said with a grin. "This is just the beginning! There's plenty more where that came from!"
The pink-haired officer wiped away her tears, overcome with emotion. "Luffy-sama," she said softly, "you've shown us there's more to life than blind loyalty and hard labor. You've given us hope. Thank you."
Her words resonated with the Marines, many of whom had begun to question their own loyalty to Akainu. Their struggles under his oppressive leadership suddenly felt hollow compared to the camaraderie and joy they now experienced with Luffy.
One Marine stood up, his voice full of conviction. "Luffy-sama, you're right. We've been fools all this time. Slaving away for Akainu's selfish ambitions... What have we gained? Nothing! It's time we lived for ourselves!"
"Exactly!" another chimed in. "Akainu exploits us while we break our backs for him. Why should we fight for his greed?"
Their emotions spilled over, and soon many were in tears, lamenting their wasted years under the Marine hierarchy.
Luffy, seeing their heartfelt transformation, smiled warmly. "It's never too late to change. From now on, you're free to live as you see fit. But remember..." His grin widened mischievously. "If you stick with me, I promise life will never be boring!"
The room erupted in cheers.
"Luffy-sama, you're the best!"
"Down with Akainu!"
"All hail the king of spicy strips!"
As the Marines celebrated, Luffy's mind drifted for a moment. He felt a faint tug in his heart, as if sensing the struggles of his crew miles away. He grinned confidently.
"Don't worry, guys," he muttered to himself. "I'll be back soon. Until then, hold the fort."
And with that, Luffy tossed another spicy strip into his mouth, savoring the moment before the inevitable call to adventure would come again.
