Chapter 101: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 102)
The crew was plunged into blinding light, and for a brief moment, nothing existed but a swirling void. It was as if the very fabric of reality had unraveled around them. The ground disappeared beneath their feet, and the air seemed to pulse with an unnatural energy. Luffy gripped the Heart tightly, his face a mix of determination and confusion, while the rest of the crew braced themselves for whatever came next.
"What's happening?!" Nami shouted, holding onto the nearest stone pillar to steady herself.
The light flared brighter, and a powerful gust of wind slammed into them, forcing the crew to shield their eyes. A deafening sound filled the air—like the ticking of an immense clock, its steady rhythm reverberating in their bones. The walls of the temple began to crack and warp, as though time itself was being torn apart.
Zoro gritted his teeth, his hand instinctively going to his swords. "Is this some kind of trap? Or are we really messing with time?"
Robin, her eyes narrowing, studied the shifting walls. "It could be both. This island, the Heart—it's all connected to an ancient power, one that might be far beyond what we understand."
Chopper, looking terrified, clung to his friend, Usopp, who was equally shaken. "I don't like this, guys! It feels like we're being pulled in every direction at once!"
Franky, always ready to take charge, grabbed the side of the stone doorframe. "We've got no choice but to hold on, people! We're in this together!"
Luffy, unfazed as always, grinned and raised his arms. "It's alright, guys! We'll figure this out! We've been through crazier stuff before, right?!"
Just as Luffy spoke, the light began to intensify even further. Suddenly, there was a sharp, cracking noise, and the air around them shattered like glass. The world around them distorted, then snapped back into focus with an almost violent jolt.
For a brief moment, everything stopped.
And then, everything changed.
They found themselves standing on the edge of a vast, unfamiliar landscape. The air felt thick with a strange energy, and the horizon stretched on endlessly—part ancient ruins, part futuristic city, as if time had been merged together in a single place. The sky above them was a strange mixture of vibrant colors, an ever-shifting tapestry of sunsets and dawns. The very world felt like it was on the edge of collapsing and rebuilding.
"Where are we?" Usopp gasped, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"This doesn't look like the temple anymore…" Nami whispered, staring at the surreal scene before her. "Is this the future? Or… the past?"
"More like a place in-between," Robin murmured, her voice distant. She walked toward the edge of what appeared to be an enormous cliff, overlooking an impossible expanse. The city below them was a tangled blend of crumbling stone towers and shimmering skyscrapers, a juxtaposition of ancient and modern technology that defied all logic. Time itself seemed to ripple in the air, bending and folding in on itself like a broken clock.
Zoro unsheathed his swords, ever alert. "This place is wrong. It's like we're somewhere that shouldn't exist…"
Franky looked around, his face filled with curiosity. "It's like we're inside a time rift. A place where the past and future collide."
Luffy, still holding the Heart, stepped forward with a wide grin. "This is awesome! It's like the whole world's one big adventure waiting for us!"
Just then, a strange hum filled the air, followed by the sound of footsteps approaching from behind. The crew whirled around to see a figure emerging from the horizon—its shape distorted by the shifting environment. As the figure drew closer, it became clear that it was another person, cloaked in flowing robes. But this figure was not human. Their form flickered and distorted, as though they were both here and not here at the same time.
The figure's eyes glowed with an eerie light, and its voice echoed across the vast, twisted landscape. "You are here. You have entered the domain of time."
Luffy grinned, unfazed. "Who are you? You're not one of those Guardians, are you?"
The figure's form shimmered, its body becoming less solid with each movement. "I am not of your world. I am a remnant, a keeper of the threshold between what was, what is, and what could be. You hold the Heart of the Forgotten Isle. And now… you must face the trials of time."
Robin stepped forward, her face thoughtful. "Trials of time? What do you mean?"
The figure's eyes flickered with a knowing glint. "The Heart binds you to this place—this fractured reality. To leave, you must confront the consequences of altering time. There is no escaping it now. You have chosen this path, and you must follow it to its end."
Franky clenched his fists. "I don't like the sound of that. So, what do we have to do?"
The figure's form became clearer, and its voice deepened. "The path ahead is not a simple one. The fabric of time is fragile, and those who wield the Heart are bound by its will. To return to your world, you must repair the damage you have caused. You must restore balance to the flow of time."
Zoro scoffed, crossing his arms. "Balance? We don't even know what that means. We're just trying to survive!"
The figure's form flickered again, its image shifting like an echo in a dream. "You will understand soon enough. The trials will test you in ways you cannot imagine. Time will challenge your resolve, your strength, and your very understanding of the world."
Suddenly, the ground trembled beneath their feet, and the entire landscape began to shift again. The city below them started to collapse in on itself, twisting and warping, as if the very fabric of time was unraveling. The crew barely had time to react before the ground beneath them cracked open, and a massive rift appeared in the earth.
"Get ready, everyone!" Luffy shouted, his fists clenched with determination. "We're not backing down! Let's go!"
With that, the crew dove into the unknown, ready to face whatever the trials of time would throw at them.
To be continued…
