Chapter 89: The Butcher
Adam smiled after listening to The Butcher's response. He said "I want you to build your own gang."
Hearing this The Butcher let out a short, harsh laugh from the darkness of his cell. The sound was rough and unused. He replied "And who are you to tell me whether or not I should build a gang? I do what I want."
Adam then said "I've told you before and I'll tell you again I'm a businessman. But I won't waste any more of your time. I will get straight to the point. I can get you out of this place. I can make all of these pending cases against you disappear."
"They will be erased from the record as if they never existed. And as for your dream your ambition I am prepared to give you all the money and all the people you will ever need to make it a reality. But in return you have to do something for me."
"You have to build a gang. Not just any gang. One that will rule the entire underworld. Not just in this city or even just in this country. But the entire world."
Hearing this The Butcher who was still lying on the cold concrete floor of his cell froze completely. Every muscle in his body went rigid.
Everything around him seemed to stop. The faint sounds of the prison the dripping water from a distant pipe it all faded away as if time itself had come to a standstill.
Adam's words his incredible offer echoed in his mind. "The entire world's underworld." He saw a fleeting glimpse of the future he had secretly dreamed of since he was a child. A future of absolute power and control.
A slight smile touched his lips. His voice was now filled with a raw excitement. The Butcher asked Adam "Are you crazy? You want to control the world's underworld? Don't you know how vast it is? It's not one single organization. It's a thousand different factions a hundred different empires all at war with each other."
Adam smiled on the other end of the line. He said "That is exactly why I am choosing you. I know your capabilities. I have seen what you have accomplished even in here with nothing. I don't just have a little faith in you. I have more faith in you than you currently have in yourself."
Hearing this The Butcher was quite surprised. His excitement was momentarily replaced by confusion.
Not many people had ever spoken about having faith in him. Not his parents not his old gang not a single person. He said again "I don't understand. Why me?"
Adam cut him off. "You don't need to understand everything right now. You just need to make a choice. Just say yes or no. If you say no this conversation is over. I will hang up and I will never call you again. "
"You will stay in this prison for the rest of your life. But if you say yes then I am offering you a new future. A new life. Are you ready to take it? I don't want to hear another question. I only want to hear a yes or a no from you."
The Butcher hesitated for a long time after hearing Adam's ultimatum. The silence stretched between them.
He weighed his options. On one hand was a guaranteed future of misery and death within the prison walls.
On the other hand was an impossible offer from a complete stranger. A chance at a dream so big he had never dared to speak it out loud.
Then he suddenly smiled to himself in the darkness. He thought "What a strange and lucky coincidence this is." He then spoke again his voice clear and firm. "I'm ready."
Adam who was watching The Butcher's every move on his own phone while speaking to him on the other said "Very good. Now go to your cell gate and return the phone to the jail warden. I will get you out of here in a few hours. I will contact you myself afterward."
Hearing this The Butcher got even more excited. The reality of the situation was finally sinking in. He had not been outside for a long time.
He had not seen the sun or the sky. He was thrilled about two things. First getting out of this jail. And second the chance to dominate the world's underworld. He was now fully determined to fulfill his dream no matter what it took.
But first he had some unfinished business to complete as soon as he got out. He was going to destroy the Black Leg gang for good.
He walked to the iron door and knocked on it three times. Hearing the sound the jail warden quickly opened the door.
He entered the narrow corridor and took the phone from him. The warden put the phone to his own ear. Adam said from the other side "I want The Butcher alive. And I want him out today."
The warden was a little surprised by the urgency. He said hesitantly "But that might be a little difficult. There are procedures. Paperwork."
Adam said again "If you want to increase your price then do it now. But I want The Butcher out of this jail today. And everything I tell you you must provide to The Butcher as soon as he leaves."
The warden looked over at The Butcher. He was a little troubled. He knew that getting The Butcher out was not that difficult for him.
But if the higher-ups found out he could face a lot of trouble himself. Adam who was still watching everything live on his app said "What happened? Why are you hesitating? You are a master at these kinds of things. I chose you for this specific reason. Now use your brain and get The Butcher out of there today."
The jail warden's mind started working. He thought to himself "He's right. This mysterious businessman says I have a brain. And I have done things like this before." He smiled thinking "I have an idea. An idea I can use."
He spoke back to Adam. "Okay sir your work will be done." He cut the call and looked at The Butcher. "Get ready kid. Today is your day of freedom. And remember you must not tell anyone about this ever."
From his apartment Adam was watching the entire live stream on his phone. A little while later a loud alarm suddenly started to sound throughout the entire jail.
It was a fire alarm. Red lights began to flash in the corridors. Guards started shouting. It seemed as if something terrible had happened. The jail warden and many other police officers were seen rushing into the main prison block.
The jail superintendent who held a higher position than the jail warden was also present. He had been on site for a routine inspection.
Adam had chosen the jail warden specifically because the jail superintendent had a bad reputation for taking bribes of a different kind. He did not want just money as a bribe. He wanted other things which
Adam was not willing to give.
The soldiers and guards rushed towards the solitary confinement block. They saw a lot of fire and thick black smoke coming out from one of the cells.
The guards used a key to open the cell and started checking inside. Everyone looked at the cell with shock.
All the other inmates in the block had already been locked down in their own cells before the alarm had even gone off.
A few moments later two security guards came out of the cell. They were carrying a charred body in a body bag. They said looking at the jail warden "Sir this was The Butcher's cell. And he is dead from the fire."
The jail warden yelled "How did the fire start? What happened here?" He was speaking in an angry and loud voice pretending to be outraged. The chaos continued for a little while longer. After the fire was extinguished the security guards left.
The jail warden was also leaving with a small group of his most trusted security guards.
Of the four security guards that walked with him three stayed behind and saluted the warden as he left the block. While one security guard left with him and got into the back of his car.
The security guard took off his hat. It was none other than The Butcher. He was now wearing a clean and crisp security guard's uniform.
He smiled at the warden and said "You're pretty sharp. You put a fake body in my place."
The Butcher was surprised that he had gotten out of this hellhole of a jail so easily. It had been like child's play for the warden.
The jail warden looked at The Butcher in his rearview mirror and said "From today onwards I don't know you. And you don't know me. If you ever get caught again and you mention my name I will personally find you and shoot you myself."
The Butcher understood that the warden was not his friend. He had only done this for the mysterious caller who had offered him this incredible opportunity.
The warden reached over and took out a large packet from the glove compartment. He gave it to The Butcher.
They had now come deep into the city away from the prison. The Butcher took the packet from the warden and got out of the car. The warden immediately drove away without looking at him again.
The Butcher knew he had gotten out today not because of the warden. But because of that mysterious caller that businessman who had given him an offer he could not refuse.
Thinking this The Butcher smiled. He said to himself "It looks like my luck is finally about to change."
