Omniscient Necromancer POV

Chapter 52: Gargoyle

I raised both hands, summoning two more fireballs.

The Gargoyles tried to scatter in an attempt to escape, but six fireballs flew toward them, each hitting one of the Gargoyles.

[You received +180 Soul Fragments!]

However, one of the larger Gargoyles, with slightly more curved horns, managed to escape unharmed and raised its hands high as it began to mutter something. A ball of black mana began to form and grow larger and larger in the Gargoyle's hands.

"Did you really think we weren't aiming for you?"

Laufus suddenly jumped out from behind a building and sliced the Gargoyle in half, dispelling that dark magic.

[Your summon defeated 'Gargoyle (Rank D+)'!]

[You have received +100 Soul Fragments!]

Meanwhile, the last surviving imps tried to flee, but I was enjoying using my new ability. I raised my hands just as the Banshee Gargoyle had done and began to create a large ball of fire.

"People of Earth, lend me your strength!"

The fireball quickly grew larger than I was, and when it was released, it was capable of consuming everything in its path. When the Gargoyles looked back and saw the light illuminating their faces, they knew there was no escape.

As soon as the smoke cleared, only charred bodies remained.

...

[You have eliminated 'Gargoyle (Rank D)'!]

[You have received +300 Soul Fragments!]

I wiped my hands, smiling contentedly. I had a massive amount of Soul Fragments to evolve when necessary, but I hadn't yet felt the need to do so. I was managing just fine with the monsters here.

"I think I'm tired for today. It's time to use this and head home," I said, taking a scroll from my inventory.

I had found this scroll in the hands of one of the Gargoyles. It was a real stroke of luck, since if I didn't have it, I would have had to make my way all the way back to the first floor.

"All right, everyone. Time to go back," I said, waving my hand in the air, making all my Summons disappear.

When I used the Return Scroll, a golden magic circle appeared under my feet and glowed brightly. As soon as the glow faded, I slowly opened my eyes and found myself back in that same Lovikalen setting with blue skies. I turned around and opened the stone door, returning to the real Lovikalen — gray and tired, but my home.

Looking up, I saw that the moon was already high in the sky. It was nighttime in Lovikalen.

I scratched the back of my neck with my hand. "Wow, it seems like time really flies when you're having fun."

It wasn't very late, probably not even eight o'clock yet, but I had been out since early in the morning. Was my family worried?

"My father probably hasn't even gotten home from work yet. Fumiko must be busy with dinner, and Marceline and Rosella... Wait, why am I including Rosella as a member of my family?" I thought aloud and shook my head to dispel the impure thoughts. "I only thought of her that way because she and Marceline said they were going out tonight. That's it. There's nothing to worry about with her either, since she's living with us for now."

Come to think of it, I had put my family at great risk by accepting Rosella's request. I wasn't thinking straight when I did it, but that was also an excuse.

The good news was that those who were hunting her would never look for a rich noblewoman like her in a neighborhood like Bronxord, and those who gave the orders would be more cautious when they found out about Blackpearl's death.

Rosella also knew how to take care of herself and protect others, so I didn't need to worry about her.

"Yes, everything will be fine for now," I said to myself, rubbing the sides of my nose.

My earnings at the Tower of Giants had been even more impressive than I had initially anticipated. If I sold all the items I had earned, I could probably earn a few gold coins. I didn't know if that would be enough for a few months' rent, so the next morning, I wanted to go to a real estate agency as soon as I left Erich McNee's shop.

Mr. McNee was the most discreet seller of magical items I knew, so it was safe to continue selling him the magical items I got in pocket dungeons.

In other stores, the salespeople would be stricter with people of my background. They would probably demand my Climber's license and signed terms.

The situation would be different when I had my Rank-B Climber's license and better clothes, as it would be more worthwhile to sell in official stores since that would increase my guild's fame. By the way, creating a guild should be the first thing I do when I get my Climber's license. A number of benefits in taxes and discounts at stores and common markets would be "unlocked."

That made me think, "Would it be better to wait to go to a real estate agency when I get my license? They might end up showing me properties they wouldn't normally show me."

Yes, I needed to think about the benefits of being Rank B as well. The fame I would gain would be bad in some ways, such as in privacy, but it would also do my family a world of good.

For some reason, my heart filled with anxiety at the thought of it all. I felt that the next day would be even more eventful than this one.
