Chapter 2137 The Dashavatara (Kurma) -Part 5
As much as they hoped that it maintained as a shooting range, things were not as easy the moment the War Tortoises reached the beaches. When the Sea Hunters and Lyro Defenders assumed that they had the upper hand in the battle, it got ugly the moment the first War Tortoise stepped on land.
They started to absorb the sand at the beaches and immediately recovered the wounds that had been inflicted by the intensive bombardment. The same goes for those who the Lyro Defenders had sunk. Sure, they were not above sea level because of their injuries but the moment they touched the sea bed, the War Tortoises' wounds had been healed and they took the long way up to shore.
Only those who the Lyro Defenders had dealt a critical hit to the War Tortoise heads had managed to kill them effectively. Thus, as time passed, more of these War Tortoises continued to head for shore and started to show their deadliness by shooting out high pressure jets of magical water to destroy the barriers that had been erected by the Sea Fortress builders.
When Kurma saw this, he was already laughing from within. He knew that his war tortoises were invincible the moment they touched land and believed that the sea faring travel was the only handicap that the Celestial Avatars had given him. After all, they wanted them to feel some hope before the despair set in when they knew that it was inevitable that the humans would die from trying hard.
However, what he did not know was that all those bombardments that the Sea Hunters, as well as the Lyro Defenders, had dished out had the anti Celestial compound in them. In those artillery high explosive shells, it was a little more delayed compared to the Rifle Mages who used penetrative shots.
After all, such explosive shells would disperse the concentration of the anti Celestial compound making it hard for them to work as compared to bullets with higher penetrating power.
The use of explosive shells at sea was mainly due to the fact that even if they were to miss because of the choppy waters, the shell would still explode upon impact, causing more collateral damage possible than an accurate hit.
Besides, the artillery guns that were brought to the Sea Fortress were not exactly calibrated for sea battles since they were brought into the Fortress City as quickly as possible.
That was why the moment, the War Tortoise stepped on shore, their doom was assured. Cannons and turrets would precisely aim at these big critters and they were instantly brought down the second the shell hit them.
The War Tortoise initially thought it would be a futile endeavour by the defenders of the Sea Fortress and all they needed to do was to ensure that they could endure the pain those cannons dished out.
Unfortunately, such thinking was wrong as the dose per shell hit on the beach was more toxic than those explosive hits. Surely, they did feel a little sluggish but their regenerative powers were considered to be one of the top notch levels because of the nature of their Avatar, the immovable foundation.
Blessed by such high speed recovery, the War Tortoises did not know that they had been poisoned by the anti Celestial compound and slowly, they fell to the traps of the Sea Hunters.
The wounds were festering and there was nothing that could be done to stop the bleeding. Recovery was nigh impossible and the War Tortoises slowly met their demise on the beach. Even though some realised that there was something wrong with this particular wave of assault, most did not have the big brains to think about it. All they knew was that they needed to breach the fortress as soon as possible.
So, despite the fall of their comrades, each took turns to charge toward the high walls of the Sea Fortress. Yet, they were met with consistent obstacles.
The equivalent of Tank mines had been planted underneath the sands of Lyro Beaches and their explosives were concentrated with enough penetrative shrapnel that it would be sufficient to put in a decent dose of anti celestial compound into the War Tortoise's bodies.
Soon, the entire beach was littered with dozens of dead tortoise shells and this made it even more difficult for the rest of the War Tortoises to move through.
It was obvious that their corpses would make excellent cover for the Fishmen but right now the Fishmen were all been occupied by the appearance of the Deep Ones that they were not able to complement the fight with the War Tortoises.
Obviously, this brought a significant advantage to the Sea Fortress defenders mainly due to the fact that the War Tortoises' advance had been slowed down by these additional obstacles, and that provided extra target practice for the artillery gunners and mortar teams.
That was when the Avatar of Immovable Foundation started to roar in anger. He did not know what kind of sorcery was being done to get his War Tortoises to be in this state and never did he see such acute rates of his kin dying to such bombardment. All he knew was that the Sea Fortress Defenders had something that was capable of killing his tortoises.
However, even if they did have the power of a Demonic Tortoise Slayer tool and channel its powers to defeat his kin, there was no way that it could be this effective.

All he understood from this sudden change of tide against his War Tortoise Army was that he needed to enter the fray and destroy this bombardment that was happening. Before Krishna left to reinforce the other armies, his friend had given him a buff enchantment to enhance his defensive powers so that it would be impervious against those bombardments.
Given such confidence in Krishna's powers, Kurma decided to take the mantle to charge towards the Sea Fortress.
That was when the Sea Hunters started to shout in the System that the main boss was arriving and needed the System to release the right weapon to fight against such a monstrosity.
A train carried Super Rail Gun, the System's very own Schwerer Gustav.
