JABARI ADOMAKO

The Heart of the Directorate

Let's dive into our first hero: Jabari Adomako.

Some of you may have picked up in my occasional author notes that I served in the military. During that year, I met people from all walks of life and gathered a few thoughts about why young people join the army: they seek life's purpose, out of desperation/necessity (they or their family need the money), or somewhere between the two.

You meet everyone from the idealistic moral guy (who'd become an officer or public sector person if they stick with it) to the animal-in-human-form who can't think beyond money and women (sorry, but that's really what some of them are). But at the end of the day, regardless of their alignment, I'm proud to call most of them friends after retiring from the army.

Life in the military is TOUGH. It's glorious and fun when it is, but it can also be VERY messed up. There's the constant philosophical battle between "Noble Spirit/Purpose-driven" and "Primitive/Urge-driven." When designing Jabari, I placed him in the first category, inspired by the great thinkers/doers I met from newer countries like Zambia and Ghana. Jabari is the amalgamation of what I saw in those African friends of mine.

"A life lived in comfort, hiding and lack of direction is suffering.

A life lived in battles, struggles, celebrations, and purpose is the real life."

(Jabari has not said this line in the story yet. But he will get to. LOL.)

Enjoy the artworks. They are all 2K resolutions, so 4 times the details of traditional HD images. Will be available and free for download on the official site soon but if you'd like early access, just DM me.

Young Jabari in Accra

Young Jabari wanders the streets of Accra, a high school student searching for meaning in life. The city stretches before him, full of possibilities and questions.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Jabari joining Kimaris Warband

Jabari accepts Chairman Kofi's call to join the elite Kimaris Warband as his fellow graduates chant: "Unity! Strength! Directorate!" A moment of destiny.

Jabari at Outpost Tumi

At Outpost Tumi on the Moon's far side, Jabari enjoys a well-earned meal. (Fun fact: He originally had a Quantum Watch at this point, but I delayed it in the current version. The watch will be gifted to him by someone important in a future chapter, before Book 1 ends)

Jabari in the Gym

Unused Scene: You Can Always Become Better

This is one of those artworks that got made but never used in a chapter (yet). It always felt natural to me that Jabari would be someone who does fist fight training in the gym. Who knows? There're multiple books in the planning, and perhaps we'll just get to see this scene in one of them!

Jabari at Mars celebration

Act 4 Preview: Small Victory on Mars

After defending the Directorate's new Martian city against the Fenris Horde, Jabari attends Chairman Kofi's victory celebration. The noble warrior cleans up nicely!

Jabari returns home

Act 5 Preview: Akan's Champion, Awakened

Without revealing who the 'actual final boss' of book 1 is, I'll say that our main characters' 'advanced forms' are needed to defeated them. Because that final boss has something that cannot be measured in raw strength. So, Jabari will need to discover and eventually use this power to make himself the Champion of Shango and Anansi, the Akan gods of his people, to help in the final fight. In fact, every POV will get to be in their advanced form by Act 5 so to speak.

Jabari returns home

Book 1 Finale: Full Circle

After helping achieve victory against the Radi-Mon Hordes, Jabari returns to his childhood streets in Accra, listening to music once more—right where his journey began.
