Chapter 75: The Examination
Raphael sat in his office at the dragon school, finally having completed his necessary paperwork.
Today, his path to becoming king would begin, and it would start with the student enrollments.
Students had lined up outside of his office and would be invited inside one at a time, giving Raphael a chance to decide whether or not he would enrol them.
The process would take a long time, Raphael knew this, so he called for some help.
Lillian Applehurst arrived at his office first, her green hair flowing loosely past her shoulders. He was the woman that he had trusted most, and decided would help him speed up the process.
Afterwards, Evelyn Wilson arrived, wearing her Phoenix uniform that clung to the curves of her body. She wore a smile on her face which added to her bubbly personality.
As soon as the women were reunited with Raphael, the first thing they did was bow their heads. For a moment, Raphael was caught off guard, before remembering something.
I'm a King now.
As the women raised their heads, he flashed them a smile.
"My king." They both said respectfully, and Raphael couldn't help but feel his pride growing within him. These were two women who he had already conquered, but for him to be called king by them was a feat that boosted his confidence even further.
"Ladies," he responded, gesturing for them to take a seat opposite his desk, which they did. "I received both of your requests to join my school. Are you certain about this decision?"
It was Evelyn who spoke first. Her face was serious, yet carried a hint of joy.
"Of course, Raphael. I've been prepared to stay by your side ever since we travelled to the Thornbatch estate together."
Raphael nodded his head down, satisfied. Then, Lillian spoke.
"A-and the same goes for me." She explained. "Our journey to the Three Divine Academies was confirmation, but even before that, when you allowed me to use the powers of the Twin Blades, I knew you were a man that I wished to follow."
At the mention of the previous events, Raphael realised just how much he had done in his short time in the schools.
The fact that I have made my way to the position of a king already is something I should probably take more pride in.
Raphael nodded his head once again, though, of course, his decision was already made.
"Well then, it's settled. You will both be the first members of the Dragon School, however, I don't wish to make you just mere students."
The two women looked at him with raised eyebrows, wondering what he could possibly mean.
"I wish to make you my Maidens. Those who are above all other students."
This idea came to Raphael the day before. He was not too fussed about making a ranking system for his school. All students would be the same, but the Maidens would have power over all others.
In other words, the Maiden's were his harem, and would be filled only with women whom he had taken as his own.
A glint sparked in their eyes as they were told of their new role, and after expressing their appreciation, Raphael told them about the day ahead of them.
Raphael, with Lillian and Evelyn by his side, would invite students who wished to join the school into his office. Afterwards, he would ask them a simple question to determine whether or not they would be accepted.
And it did not take long for the students to start rolling in. The Dragon School had been filled with an incredible line of potential students, all wishing to join the infamous new school.
Most had heard of Raphael or perhaps seen him first-hand when he killed Christopher Reynold in their school. This meant that they all respected or feared him deeply.
The first student that entered was a testimony to the fear.
He was a young man, the same age as Raphael, yet he walked with no confidence.
As he stepped inside, his legs were shaky and his forehead dripped with sweat. Not only was his demeanour lacking, but his body also seemed to be weak.
Straight away, Raphael wished to turn the man away. To tell him that the Dragon School was not the best choice for him. But he decided to give the man a chance.
I should at least ask him my question.
The young man seemed to be frightened at the fact that two beautiful women were in the room also, further throwing him off balance.
"What is the power of your birthright?" Raphael asked, before even questioning the man's name or background.
Taken off guard by the question, the man hesitated before giving his answer.
"I-it's the ability to control the elements around me... My King."
Raphael scratched at his chin in thought before turning his head towards Lillian and Evelyn, who stood on either side of his desk.
"It's an incredibly powerful Birthright, Raphael. I think you should accept him." Lillian responded, but the dragon king wasn't convinced.
"Control the elements, you say?" He questioned with an eyebrow raised at the young man, who shuddered underneath his gaze.
But before the man could respond, Raphael called upon Rachael. The White Dragon
White flames instantly erupted from his hands, brightening the room in their brilliance and threatening to burn anything around them.
Evelyn and Lillian were startled but remained where they stood.
The young man, however, let out a pathetic scream and ran to the door, covering away.
Raphael allowed his flames to disappear before doing any damage and simply looked at the man with disappointment.
"Why did you not control that element?" He asked him accusingly.
"I- I don't kn-"
"Leave. This school is not for you." He cut the man off.
Then, without saying another word, he ran from the room in embarrassment.
The students outside the room waiting to enrol watched the man run out in fear, filling them with anxiety.
Raphael let out a deep sigh.
What a pathetic man.
Lillian and Evelyn tried their best not to laugh at the sorry sight they had just witnessed.
"What a great start." Raphael joked with his two maidens. "Let's get the next one in."
