Chapter 102: Snowdon City

As Raphael continued to make his way towards the city walls of the north, he quickly realised that he was finally making distance towards his location.

It seems like Saint Michael has had a sort of effect on my perspective ever since my fight with Yuki. Now that he's dead, I'm free.

He wondered what other secrets the first angel might hold. And where was Yuki?

As he travelled, his mind fell on the Dunkelwacht. On the God of Flames.

It was a powerful name. One even stronger than his.

The remaining dragons in the world were the Emerald and the Golden. He wondered which one would reside on the Volcanic Islands.

After a short travel, Raphael finally reached the snowy walls of the city.

There was a giant gate guarding the entrance to the city that stood ten times the height of a man.

Luckily for Raphael, the gates were open, otherwise he would have to find a way to sneak inside.

But as he approached, a thought quickly fell on him.

Once inside, how will he find King Helix, and what will he do once he does?

Can I really just go in there and kill him?

For now, he decided he would make his way into the city and come to his decision then.

---

The City of the North, home to King Helix, was named Snowdon.

It was home to thousands of northern civilians who wore large jackets and robes to defend themselves from the harsh weather.

The city streets were wide and bustling with activities. Kids having snowball fights, adults heading to their places of work, and armoured guards marching through the streets to keep things safe.

Raphael instantly realised that he stood out like a sore thumb in the crowd. Not only did he not wear clothes suited for the North, but he also wore a crown on his head, signifying himself as royalty.

The world would quickly spread that he was here.

Luckily, the sun had begun to fall, which meant that the busy streets slowly began to quieten.

Raphael was tired himself, from the long journey and his short fight with Saint Michael.

I should head to an Inn and sleep for the day.

He found a wooden inn named the Travellers Lodge and swiftly made his way inside. The space was quiet, with a fireplace at its centre, making it feel like a home.

A bard played a beautiful melody on the lute, but other than that, the only other person that could be seen was a beautiful lady standing at the counter, cleaning a mug.

As the lady spotted the man wearing a crown on his head, instantly she stood taller and stopped what she was doing.

She didn't recognise him, but she knew he must be a man of importance.

"H-how can I help you, my lord." She said as Raphael approached.

Her hair was a honey brown, and fell to her sides in faint curls. She wore an apron, and a standard innkeeper outfit, though the fabrics clung tight to her body, highlighting her curves.

She carried a mature air to her, which made Raphael guess that she was around the age of thirty.

As she spoke, the bard stopped playing his music and nervously looked over as well.

From the way he looked at the woman, Raphael could tell that they were familiar with each other.

"I'd like a room please, and preferably a meal."

The woman stared at the man's crown for a moment, entranced by its brilliance; then she quickly shook her head free of the thoughts.

"O-of course," she said with a stutter. "All of our rooms are empty since business is... Slow. But you can take room 1. I'll have a meal brought up to you soon."

Raphael flashed the lady a smile, before realising that he didn't have any money to pay with.

But then again, the woman had not asked for payment...

Perhaps royalty did not need to.

Raphael decided he would find a way to pay her somehow as he headed up to his room.

Once he was gone, the bard looked at the woman behind the counter.

"Finally, a customer." He said with a smirk on his face. "And he's rich. Let's try and milk as much money from him as he can."

The innkeeper finished cleaning the mug and placed it down on the counter.

"Does everything have to be about money with you?" She said in annoyance as she headed into the kitchen.

---

Raphael found the room to his liking. Modest and comfortable.

He quickly removed his shirt and layed down on the soft mattress, inhaling the aroma of food that made its way up from the kitchen.

Now, I'll need to come up with a plan to deal with King Helix.

Perhaps I should first try to meet him. I should talk before engaging in any conflict and try to gain any useful information on the Dunkelwacht.

And I can ask why he was so adamant on having me killed...

His thoughts were interrupted by a knock that came at his door.

After inviting them in, the innkeeper from downstairs walked inside, holding a tray of food.

Now inside, it smelt even greater. A mixture of meats, potatoes and vegetables.

The Innkeeper must have noticed Raphael being shirtless, as she tried to hide the blush of her cheeks with a smile.

"I hope the meal is to your liking, my lord." She said, placing the meal on the desk and heading back to the door.

However, before she could leave, Raphael stopped her with his voice.

"Who is that man downstairs?" He asked her. "I heard what he said. About milking me for my money ."

Suddenly, the woman's cheeks blushed to a shade of red that she was unable to hide. She couldn't believe what was happening.

She bowed her head deeply and clasped her hands together as though she were begging.

"That is my foolish husband. Please forgive us, your majesty! I promise that I would never even think of doing such a thing!"

Raphael looked at the woman, and couldn't help but smirk to himself at her desperateness.

It's been a while since I've stolen a woman from her husband...
