Chapter 139: Gift giving -12
Yohan arrived at the station a few minutes after. It was the headquarters for the City Police Department, so it was a pretty big place.
He asked to see Helen but was instructed to wait until she came to get him. So he sat down in the waiting area.
He was wearing some of the new clothes he had gotten: black pants with a leather jacket and a white shirt. That, along with the expensive cologne he wore, made him irresistible to all the female officers walking by.
Every single one of them had to take a double glance before passing.
"Who is that guy?" Sally asked the two male officers that always followed her around like minions.
"I don't know, but he's been sitting there since," the first one replied.
"I wonder what he's feeling like, sitting there and striking a pose like some superstar. Does he think he can actually pull any woman here like that?" the other guy said in a mocking tone.
"Yeah, the loser is probably feeling like some kind of celebrity because he looks a little bit good… right, Sally?" He chuckled, turning to see if she shared his humor.
But when he did, she was no longer there.
"Sally?"
His eyes quickly scanned around and found her standing right in front of Yohan, face red as she spoke to him.
"E-Excuse me," she called out softly.
Yohan was pulled out of his thoughts when he noticed the female officer standing in front of him.
"Huh?"
"Are you waiting for someone?"
"Yes, she should be here any moment from now," he replied kindly.
"Okay," she said, but then she still continued standing there.
"Uhmm… could I please get your number?" She took out her phone, looking away timidly like she was a high school girl confessing her love.
From the moment she had spotted Yohan, she immediately thought this guy was exactly her type. His style and his calm, composed aura gave him a very high sense of mystery.
He wasn't like any of the other guys here, she could easily tell.
Although he did look a bit younger than her, she didn't mind since he was still probably an adult.
Her minions were back there gritting their teeth and cursing, but she didn't care. Compared to this fine specimen, they couldn't even come close.
Yohan considered it for a few seconds.
"Okay…"
Just as he was about to reach for the phone, Helen appeared out of nowhere.
"And what is going on here?" Her voice was cold and ominous.
"Hey Helen, what took you so long?" Yohan chuckled awkwardly. He was caught right in the middle of the act.
"Deputy…" Sally murmured, shifting to the side.
"I had some things to finish up, so why don't you tell me what is going on here?" she said sternly, this time sounding even more authoritative.
"Well… I… I was just getting to know…" Yohan looked at the female fidgeting beside him. He didn't even know her name.
"Sally, what are you doing?" She shifted her attention to the girl.
"Uhmm… I… I was…" The girl was stuttering like she was caught doing something she wasn't supposed to, all because of Helen's pressure.
"I wasn't doing anything, Ma'am," she finally managed to say.
"That's not true. It looked like you were asking for his number."
"Y-yes… I was just—"
"So were you trying to steal my man?" Helen asked, moving closer to Sally's face.
"Your… man?" Sally's brows raised slightly, surprised at the sudden reveal.
She glanced at Yohan, then back at Helen.
"He's your… man?" This time, there was a bit of disbelief and shock in her voice.
"Yes. Is that too hard to believe?"
"No, Ma'am, of course not. I'm sorry, I didn't know you two were… together… I'll get back to work now." She stumbled on her words, and almost even stumbled on her feet as she scrambled away.
Even as they left the station and got to the car, Helen continued to wear a frown on her face. She stared at him as he drove in silence for the first couple of minutes.
'Why is she looking at me like that…?' Yohan wondered nervously. 'It's not my fault that other police officer asked for my number.'
He sighed, then asked, "Helen, what's wrong?"
Helen wasted no time to reply, "Were you actually going to give her your number?"
"Maybe. I don't see why it's that much of a big deal…"
"How can you give your number to another woman when we are going to get married!" Her voice raised slightly.
Yohan immediately parked the car. When he looked at her, she was nothing like the usual calm and composed Helen he knew; instead, her emotions were written all over her face.
He could see that she was pissed, but to be honest, he really couldn't understand why.
"Look, Helen, I told you from the start I have no plans of getting married yet. I'm sorry if it looks like I misled you, but my mind hasn't changed," he stated calmly.
"What do you mean…?"
"I mean that I have my life to live, and if being with you is going to stop me from doing that, then maybe this isn't going to work out," he explained.
"You want to know the truth? I was going to take that girl's number because she's pretty. I'm a scumbag, so you should try to find someone better."
He was about to get out of the car before he remembered the gift he had gotten for her. He reached into the back seat.
"Also, I got this for you," he handed it to her before leaving her alone in the car.
Helen was left sitting there as she watched him leave. She didn't know how to react to everything.
Yohan decided to leave her car for her just so he wouldn't have to owe her anything. It was a hard decision to tell her off like that, but it was best for him that he did it now before this grew into something he couldn't control.
