Chapter 390
“Then I’m heading in now….”
– Okey dokey…
– Damn… Finally can sleep.
– Good job…
– Are we filming tomorrow?
“Tomorrow… I don’t know… I’ll just go for now.”
– See you…
– Time for some sweet sleep, haha.
– Wow, today was packed.
The Minecraft session that started yesterday, ended up lasting past noon the next day.
…How did time slip away like this?
“Ah….”
I leaned heavily on the chair and rubbed my tired eyes.
…This is a big problem.
I really screwed up by not being professional.
Thinking about needing energy drinks today, I stumbled into the living room.
“Finally coming out, huh.”
After skipping breakfast and lunch from fishing and farming all day, Mrs. Jang shook her head disapprovingly at me from the living room sofa.
“Skipping meals too.”
“Is there food?”
Since Park Kang-seok wouldn’t arrive for a while, I asked, wondering if I should fill my stomach, and Mrs. Jang pointed towards the dining table.
“Just heat up the soup.”
“Thanks….”
As expected of Mrs. Jang, she had it prepared.
I made my way to the dining table and began to pick at my lunch.
I had been too busy with the game to think about food, but now that I was actually eating, fatigue was washing over me.
But thinking about filming, I powered through, finishing a whole bowl, feeling a satisfying fullness wash over me, only for drowsiness to hit me next.
With that came a sense of urgency.
This is an emergency.
I had no choice but to take drastic measures.
I immediately mixed some instant coffee with lukewarm water and gulped it down before striding back into the living room.
“Mom.”
“What is it, you useless daughter?”
“Wake me up in an hour.”
Saying that, I just collapsed in front of the living room sofa.
“What?”
“I have to work, so you need to wake me up.”
Mrs. Jang would be watching TV and cleaning in the living room, so she could wake me up.
I closed my eyes, hoping to catch at least an hour of sleep.
Soon…
“Wake up!”
“Huh, huh?”
Had it really been only a moment since I closed my eyes before Mrs. Jang woke me?
Oh… Has an hour already passed?
Feeling a heavy weight on my stomach, I looked up to see Bok-sil curled up on top of me.
…Must be sitting there to make sure I don’t squish her. There’s no way she’s looking down at Buhwang, the third in the household hierarchy like that.
“This is…”
I gently lifted Bok-sil off and set her down on the floor before getting up.
“How long has it been?”
“Exactly one hour.”
“Hmm….”
According to Napoleon’s method, I’ve actually napped for a quarter of a day, yet it felt like I just briefly shut my eyes.
Glancing at the clock confirmed that indeed an hour had passed, so I forced myself up.
At least I should feel better after a shower.
With that thought, I headed to the bathroom.
I showered with a foggy mind and began preparing to head out.
Since I was going to the shop anyway, I just needed to do quick setting.
Before leaving, I grabbed the eye mask I had stored in the drawer.
If I could catch a few moments of sleep during the ride, that should help a bit.
I stepped outside, as usual, and hopped into the waiting van.
“Did you wait long?”
“No, not long at all.”
“That’s a relief. Alright, let’s go.”
Saying that, I immediately took out my eye mask.
The ride felt nice and cozy, perfect for sleeping.
“Can I take a nap while we travel?”
I checked with Park Kang-seok instead of immediately just doing it.
He glanced at me through the rearview mirror.
“…Did you not sleep well last night?”
“I’m sorry….”
I apologized, knowing it was clearly my fault for not managing my condition, and Park Kang-seok looked away to focus back on the road.
“Feel free to sleep in the car. I’ll stop by a café to grab some coffee on the way.”
“Thank you….”
After that, I quickly put on the eye mask.
True to a superstar’s favorite, the soft texture lulled my eyes shut.
And just like that, I drifted into my second sleep of the day.
**
“We’re almost there.”
“Oh, okay….”
I shook off my drowsiness as I got out of the car.
The destination was the filming location.
Since this morning, I had coffee, napped at the shop, and caught more sleep in the car.
Anyway, thanks to the minimal efforts I made during the long travel and preparation time, I managed to gather my senses.
So, I did some light stretching while looking at the filming set ahead.
Thank goodness today is just a simple test shoot.
At least I’d done my makeup because they could use any scenes that turned out good.
As I stepped inside the filming area, I glanced at myself in the mirror.
As per the director’s request, my makeup had been done to give a cold secretary vibe.
And considering I was already feeling exhausted, it actually fit well, I thought.
“Oh Su-hyun, you’re here.”
First things first, I headed over to greet the director as soon as I arrived on set.
There were other staff members around, but since this was my first official visit after shooting commenced, it was proper to find the director first.
“Did you come after getting your makeup done?”
“Yes, I just got back from the shop.”
“You look great!”
The director nodded in apparent satisfaction at my appearance.
It seems my look matched the image he had in mind.
“Is that true?”
“Yep, the slight hint of tiredness in your face is makeup, right? The technology has really improved these days.”
“Uh?”
“Honestly, this look is better than a more formal one. It gives off a sultry vibe.”
“Ah, thank you for the compliment.”
“You’re interpreting the character well, as expected.”
…Do I have to practice looking exhausted too?
Still, getting a good review despite my failure to manage my condition felt good…
“Alright then, let’s head to the filming area.”
After exchanging some light conversation with the director, we walked toward the filming set together.
“Welcome.”
“Looks like you’re filming today?”
When I got to the filming area, the other actors who were already preparing greeted me.
We had done some script reading together and had met several times in meetings already, so we were somewhat familiar with each other.
“Yes, looking forward to working with you today.”
“Haha, since you did well at the reading, you’ll do fine.”
The atmosphere at the filming set seemed quite pleasant.
Since it was still early in production with a generous budget, everyone appeared to have some degree of leisure.
Before starting shooting, since I had greeted the actors and director, I changed into my costume.
My character, Kang Ji-soo, wore a white collared shirt paired with a tailored skirt.
It might sound boastful, but looking in the mirror, I thought I would likely attract a good amount of fans after the airing.
Once in costume, at the moment of filming, I was no longer Kim Soo-hyun, but Kang Ji-soo, so I practiced some expressions in front of the mirror.
With the sultry look the director praised earlier in mind, I stood in front of the mirror but…
“Wow.”
As it turned out, that was already my default expression at this state, so I achieved it naturally without much effort.
Looks like today, I won’t have to worry.
To ensure I’d have material to practice with later at home, I took a selfie to save the expressions before leaving the costume room.
As I walked past various staff members toward the filming area, I saw the set, which seemed fully prepared.
“Oh, you’re here.”
In front of the set stood a middle-aged actor dressed all in black with a mask in hand.
“When did you arrive?”
“I just got here after changing into my costume.”
This older male actor was Han Jeong-cheon.
He would be playing the antagonist in the drama, where I would be filming regularly from now on.
“Su-hyun, this will be your first shoot on set, right?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Let’s do our best.”
Having already spoken during the script reading eased some of the awkwardness in our interaction.
Moreover, I already knew him from before the drama.
I had memorized old famous actors’ faces during my early days.
A true veteran who has been actively acting since starting out in Daehangno, he had reached an impressive middle age now.
His face still bore traces of his past popularity as a handsome actor, making him a beloved celebrity.
“Looking forward to working with you today, senior.”
Being a novice in the industry, I was treating him with utmost respect.
No matter how Buhwang stood tall in the VTuber world, I had to be cautious in the actor industry.
“Alright, all actors, please prepare!”
Following the voices of the staff, we stepped into the set.
Unfortunately, the set where I’d primarily be shooting seemed far from the survival game I had long anticipated since the audition.
It was setup similarly to an executive room in some company, as this spacious set was primarily where the drama’s antagonist would operate.
The only difference was that a ton of monitors were placed in the center of the room.
They were used to watch the game participants.
Sitting behind an extravagant desk in the middle was Han Jeong-cheon, continuously acting and watching the monitors.
Of course, I would also be on those screens next to him.
“We’re entering the shoot now! Please signal when you’re ready!”
On top of that, was I now a proper actor?
As I stepped fully into the set for the first time, the fatigue that had weighed down on me throughout the afternoon seemed to disperse.
No longer was I the Miro, the VTuber who stayed up all night and fished until lunchtime.
I was Kim Soo-hyun, the actor portraying Kang Ji-soo.
With that realization, I felt the fatigue lifting away.
I resisted the exhaustion pressing down on me from the intense gaming session.
It was as if I indicated that the job itself was tiring.
While people were dying on the other side of the monitor, the antagonist who led the wicked survival game sat beside me.
Yet it was time for Kang Ji-soo to maintain a composed, businesslike expression without a hint of disturbance.
“Ha.”
Taking a deep breath and shaking off thoughts of Miro.
“Shall we begin?”
“Yes.”
Now, I became Kang Ji-soo, ready to start my long-awaited first shoot.
