Chapter Thirty: Aftermath
Atlas found himself laying in a puddle of gore and blood. Scrambling to his feet he glanced around soaking in his surroundings.
He felt something grow in his stomach as he saw the headless corpse of the Minotaur, Lars and Dane. There was a body burnt to a crisp a ways away that Atlas assumed to be Lesli, but it might have been Nex, though unlikely.
He felt… nothing. He didn't feel like he had just killed all of his only friends in this world, but as if he was a child and he had tossed away a toy he didn't care too much about. His mind knew everything about this situation was wrong, but his heart didn't seem to care, seeing it as a way to get stronger.
Atlas looked at his notifications and found a seemingly endless wall of text waiting for him.

Sleeping Death has reached level 9.

Atlas was shocked. His Lifeforce was simply ridiculous, his mana was still going strong, his skills were only getting better, his titles had added two more to their ranks, and his stats had become bloated far beyond anything they had ever been before.
He took one last glance at the blood covered floor before sighing and accepting the message to leave the dungeon.
Light suffused his being, and he was teleported back into the Training Dungeon building. He found himself staring straight at Nex and he instantly took a step back, not feeling ready to face her.
She looked deep into his eyes. "You are no longer sleeping. Good, you were absolutely terrifying when you were."
Atlas scratched the back of his neck, suddenly feeling very uncomfortable. "So about what happened back there…"
Nex cocked her head. "You mean you killing the rest of our party singlehandedly, as well as turning the Minotaur into mincemeat?"
Atlas gulped. "Yeah, that."
Nex sighed. "I understand that you were under the effects of a skill."
Atlas's eyebrows rose upwards. "How did you know?"
Nex waved him off. "Not important. Elves can see many things that others can not. Come, lets talk somewhere a little more private."
Atlas followed her out of the building and over to the Guild Hall, where Nex grabbed two bowls of Fire Chicken stew, handing one to Atlas and sitting him down at a table in the corner. Atlas took the bowl and nodded his thanks, taking a couple bites and stuffing his mouth so he would have an excuse if she tried to talk to him.
Nex ate her stew slowly but surely, never so much as looking at Atlas until they had both finished their meals. Atlas, now having no excuse if she began to question him, desperately tried to think of a conversation topic that wouldn't bring them back to the recent demise of their party.
"So… I thought elves didn't eat meat?" Atlas asked tentatively.
Nex shrugged. "Most elves don't, but I don't understand why. Plants have just as many emotions as animals, just not the intelligence to go along with it. I don't care what I eat, as long as it tastes good."
They both sat in awkward silence.
Nex locked eyes with Atlas. "The Minotaur gave me some parting words to relay to you, and I think knowing about them will benefit you. I will just share the memory with you." She closed her eyes, concentrating.
Atlas felt words tuck into his brain, feeling different than how the Minotaur usually talked but still in the same vein.
Tell the human that it was the system who commanded me to do this, otherwise I would never have thought to use my sleep spell on him. I much prefer this path, as I was promised that I will be resurrected in another dungeon if I do this. The amount of death killing his friends has generated… truly a sight to behold. My death will only strengthen his connection with death, and he will become the system's perfect reaper, and I will get to feast on more young minds, without having to die here.
Atlas felt an unspeakable rage fill him, how dare the system control him! But he suppressed it, listening to Nex's next few words.
"I don't hate you, Atlas, I really don't, but I will take my leave now, because no matter how little of it was truly your fault, you just killed my fiance and my best friends in this world. I feel pain just from being around you. I am going to give up the life of an adventurer and become a healer, please feel free to talk to me whenever you want, I understand that your pain might be just as much or greater than mine."
Atlas almost scoffed, but his mind was racing, and he looked up at Nex, eyes determined. It was time to go take a hold of his fate once and for all. "Please excuse me, I need to go talk with myself."
And with that, he spun around, handing his empty bowl to the bartender and marching outside, eyes full of determination.
