Chapter Seventeen: Dungeon IV
Atlas took point, seeing as he was the only one who could see the illusions, with Lars right behind him. Jay stood next to Lars, with Nex, Lesli, Dane and the Scurrid behind him. Next to Lars was Dane's other creature, a golem made out of green rock.
Life Golem
Tier: 3 Level: 250 CP: 0.8
Description: A Life Golem is a creature from the Plane of Life, and is filled with Earth and Life Mana. Its body gives it great durability and strength, allowing it to survive even the mightiest of blows and return in kind. Because of the Life Mana suffusing it, it gives off an aura of Life that heals itself and allies within 30 feet of it. This is the summoned creature of Dane Ulithian and is under his control.

Atlas was more than a little impressed when Dane had summoned the Life Golem. He said having two summons at one time was very difficult, but still manageable. He just wouldn't be able to cast as many support spells, though he hadn't needed to so far, what with all the weaker monsters they had fought so far.
They reached the area where the illusion was, and Atlas looked back checking to make sure everyone was ready, after they all nodded, he turned, charging straight into the wall, swinging his scythe with Strength Form.
Before he even entered the wall, blood exploded outwards, he had obviously killed something, or maybe even multiple somethings. Entering the room, he found that it looked exactly like the other cavern, plus one detail.
The room was filled with Grunts.
Atlas paused, and they looked at each other for a moment, before the Grunts all roared, charging straight at Atlas. Atlas grinned, brandishing his Scythe and charging in as well. There were so many Grunts, and the Grunts that weren't engaged in fighting with Atlas attacked Lars and the Life Golem. Atlas killed two or three Grunts with every blow, but there seemed to be hundreds of the things. He quickly checked them and realized why.
In addition to their normal status, they had an interesting line.
Grunts near a Miniboss multiply rapidly, but stop when the miniboss dies.
A fireball exploded by him, causing him to curse and dive out of the way, but he didn't lose focus, scanning all of the kobolds in the room. He saw all the Grunts… and four blurring forms, which he took to be the Acolytes, and then he finally spotted it. The Miniboss.
Mind Mage: Murp
Tier: 3 Level: 100 CP: 1.5 (2.4)
Description: Murp is an Acolyte that has developed a proficiency for Mind Magic. He is an expert in making you doubt yourself and fight against each other, making him only grow in power when he is attacked by groups. He knows how to use illusions and fire magic as well, but they are a secondary focus. He devotes himself to Mind Magic, and even controls his minions to make sure they perform exactly how he wants them to. Mind Mage: Murp is a Miniboss of the dungeon, and defeating him will allow you to move to the next floor.

Atlas mowed down another row of Grunts and yelled back to his team. "THE MINIBOSS IS IN HERE! KILL IT!" he pointed at Murp for reference before mowing down another three Grunts. They were still weak, but there were just so many of them.
He apparently got the message across, because almost instantly after he yelled, Jay charged the miniboss, feet glowing an unnatural blue, sending him flying with every step. He slashed out with his daggers… and embedded them into Lars. Right before Jay had reached the miniboss, his head had glowed purple and he had appeared in front of Lars, lashing out at his teammate.
Atlas paled. "I ALMOST FORGOT, BUT THE MINI BOSS USES MIND MAGIC! BE ON GUARD." he yelled, still in the futile process of killing the endless number of Grunts.
Dane looked over at him. "OH, NOW YOU TELL US?!"
Atlas winced. "SORRY!"
The rest of the team focused on the miniboss, and Atlas focused on keeping the tide of Grunts from blindsiding him. He changed to Speed Form when he realized even his normal hits packed enough punch to kill the creatures, so he focused more on killing them faster. His body was a blur as he killed the Grunts. And, ever so slowly, the Grunts began to diminish in number. The Grunts were all forced into a single area, almost three dozen of them, and Atlas used his first active skill in this fight.
Breath of the Consuming Void Dragon.
A spectral dragon maw appeared above him, opening its jaws and exhaling a black mist that began to eat away at the Grunts. Magic Form, "Obliterate."
A fiery laser shot from his hands, practically deleting the Grunts.

Hyper Jump (ZZZ): Instantly travels from one place to another. You must be able to see where you are teleporting, and you can take anything that you are touching that weighs less than 2 tons. You can take other people with you. You can also choose to teleport to the nearest summoning platform instead of somewhere you can see.
Atlas instantly used the skill. With the Grunts dead, the only other threats were the Acolytes and the Miniboss. Atlas chose to deal with the former first, as they were pelting his team with fireballs, in addition to the attacks of Murp.
Atlas appeared behind one of the blurs, killing the Acolyte hidden within in a single strike before moving on. Out of the four blurs, only three were actually Acolytes, and he dealt with them in quick succession.
Turning to face the Miniboss, he was stunned at what he saw.
Dane was glowing purple, and he was standing next to the miniboss, casting buffing spells on his summons… which were fighting against the rest of his team.
Activating Strength Form, Atlas teleported behind Murp, lashing out with his scythe… and freezing in place.
Atlas felt an insidious thread begin to creep into his brain, threatening to take over his body. It was slimy then, and he didn't know if it was just a representation of something, or if a thread was actually digging into his brain. Either way, Atlas fought back, he mentally wrestled with the thread, trying- and failing- to rip it out. It was slippery, and no matter what he did, it slowly wrapped around his brain, taking control of him.
Atlas felt his body go slack, then begin to attack his party. His scythe came down at Lars in a vicious overhand blow, and Lars barely managed to duck out of the way, and Atlas's scythe lodged in the ground, stuck fast. Atlas easily ripped it back out, seeing as he was still in strength form. Atlas was horrified as he watched his body fight his body in the back of his mind. He was forced to feel his body moving, but not be able to control anything that happened.
Atlas mentally narrowed his eyes, and focused his will on the thread, clamping down on it hard and using everything he had to try and rip it out again. It failed, but this time, he got a notification.
Atlas could still open in, and he read it quickly.
Mental Resistance (A): Helps you resist Mind Magic that attempts to control your body.
Atlas flared the skill eagerly, focusing on the thread and prying it away. He slowly began to pull it off, but then the thread doubled in size, curling back around his brain again.
Atlas cried out as he failed, and he was sent back to the backseat of his brain. He fought against the thread again, leveling up his mental resistance as he did. After three more clashes with the thread, Atlas got the skill to level up.

With his much stronger skill, he once more went to battle with the thread, prying it off of his brain and hurling it out of his body. He suddenly got whiplash as he found himself in control of his body once more, scythe only inches away from Lesli's terrified face. He flinched backwards, realizing what had almost happened and helped her up, looking back at what was happening.
Lars was unconscious on the ground, with Nex right by his side, magic flowing from her hands as she healed him. Jay was fighting off the Mini Boss all by himself, but it was clear he was losing, and he was bleeding quite a lot.
Atlas Hyper Jump-ed behind the miniboss, slashing out and ripping off its head with a single, strength enhanced blow before collapsing to his knee. He sighed in relief as Dane's purple glow faded, and his summoned creatures stopped fighting against Jay.

Atlas was shocked, glancing down, he realized that the mist had made its way all the way over here, and the Miniboss had been standing in it.

Atlas smiled happily at the skill. It would make not only him more powerful, but also his teammates.
Atlas walked closer to his teammates and told them about his new skill. They were all amazed as they watched their resources rapidly climb upwards. Lars was fully healed after just a few more minutes. Atlas was pained when he looked at Lars, apparently he had been the one to hurt him so bad.
After a few more minutes, everyone was ready to move on to the next floor, and Atlas broke the Altar again.
2 of ? Levers found.
Atlas turned to his team in a sudden burst of inspiration. "Can I go check all the other tunnels to make sure that we haven't missed any of the other levers."
Lars looked thoughtful. "Sure. But you only have one hour."
Atlas shifted to Speed Form and blasted off, not wasting any more time talking.
Lesli walked over to Lars. "Why an hour? He won't be able to get through all of the tunnels in an hour."
Lars just laughed. "You know how he can suddenly become ridiculously strong? I think he can do the same with his speed. He can also teleport like a thousand feet or something. He will be fine."
40 minutes later, Atlas was back. He sent them a couple notifications.
3 of ? Levers found.
4 of ? Levers found.
5 of ? Levers found.
6 of ? Levers found.
7 of ? Levers found.
All Levers on Floor One have been found.
He grinned cheekily at them. "Didn't even take me an hour."
Lars just looked at Lesli. "Told you so."
