Chapter 620: Helping Out
This is an old-looking dagger. The only thing somewhat reassuring is that the blade doesn't appear rusty. There are some dull colors on the spine, which could be either bloodstains or rust.
The handle is wooden, already blackened, and the guard is C-shaped and forward-facing, seemingly made of brass. It has a dull yellowish tint, yet there are also some other dark marks.
Jimmy didn't reach out to grab it immediately but instead looked at Father Rodney: "What's going on here? Is this a murder weapon?"
Father Rodney: "Don't worry, this used to be a priest's personal knife. It's been decades since he passed away."
Jimmy: "This... it's completely a broken knife, right? I suspect if I got cut by it, I might die of tetanus..."
Father Rodney shook his head with a smile: "Since I can give it to you, there's definitely no problem. This is indeed an exorcism weapon. We just don't need it usually, so it's been stored unused in the warehouse. Back in the day, the priest used this dagger for self-defense and eliminated quite a few possessed demons and resentful spirits."
Jimmy's mouth twitched a bit as he looked again at the dagger, "If I have someone repair it, will it affect its effectiveness? At the very least, the handle needs replacing; it looks like it's about to crack."
Father Rodney: "No, as long as you don't recast the blade, there won't be a problem. It's mainly a matter of time, otherwise, I could send it for repair before giving it to you, but that would take too long."
Jimmy: "Alright, I'll ask someone about how to repair it. Thank you, Father Rodney."
Jimmy closed the box and left the church holding it.
To get this knife restored, I definitely can't just find anyone randomly. A reliable bladesmith is more conveniently found over at the hotel, where they likely have staff experienced in handling cold weapons, as they wouldn't always be buying ready-made ones for their operations.
Coincidentally, it's the weekend. Jimmy called to confirm Charon was at the hotel, then drove over directly.
Arriving at the hotel entrance, Jimmy stepped out holding two boxes and walked in, "Charon."
Charon nodded slightly: "Mr. Yang, please follow me."
After arranging for someone to take over at the front desk, Charon led Jimmy back to the familiar meeting room. Jimmy handed over a small box: "A gift for you, hope you like it."
Frequently troubling Charon, Jimmy felt it necessary to express some gratitude. He had already purchased a Dupont lighter and brought it along this time. As for Winston, he still didn't know what to gift; this would have to do for now.
Charon smiled as he opened the box: "Thank you, Mr. Yang, I like it very much. Is there anything I can assist you with?"
Jimmy: "I'm looking for a reliable and skilled bladesmith through the hotel. I have a decades-old dagger that needs repair. The craftsmanship must be excellent, and the person must be trustworthy. The handle can be replaced, but not the blade. It cannot be recast."
Charon: "Can I take a look at it?"
Jimmy nodded, opened the box with the dagger, and handed it to Charon. Charon, wearing white gloves for work, carefully took the dagger out.
Carefully inspecting the blade and handle, Charon nodded: "I believe I can find someone to handle it."
Jimmy smiled, "That would be great, thank you. Please remind the bladesmith, the blade must not be recast, just cleaned and polished."
Charon placed the dagger back in the box and handed it back, "Alright. May I ask if, after it's repaired, you intend to use it or collect it?"
Jimmy: "Use it. It will replace the foldable knife I currently use."
Jimmy took out his personal small folding knife for Charon to see. Charon raised an eyebrow, revealing his furrowed brow, "Is this the knife you use daily? I think it lacks the functionality for self-defense."
Jimmy: "I mainly use it for cutting ropes and such. To be honest, I've wanted to replace it for a while, just haven't found the right knife yet."
Charon bowed slightly: "Please wait a moment." He then exited and returned after a while with a case, placing it on the table and opening it to reveal several types of small knives — butterfly knives, switchblade knives, straight knives, each with one.
Charon gestured as if inviting selection: "Feel free to choose. These are all brand new and unused, all sharpened and polished. Consider them as your personal knife until the dagger is restored."
Jimmy looked at Charon in surprise. Charon gestured once more invitingly. Jimmy nodded, glanced at the knives in the case, and picked up a Mafia side-opening knife. With a click, the blade flipped out. Jimmy tested its feel, "This one then, thank you, Charon."
Charon: "You're welcome." He casually closed the case, "Is there anything else you need help with?"
Jimmy: "No, that was it. Finding a reliable bladesmith isn't easy. Thank you for the gift, I'll head back now."
Charon placed the box Jimmy brought on the case and escorted him out of the meeting room. After Jimmy exited the hotel, Charon returned to the meeting room, took the case and the box, and arranged for subsequent handling.
Jimmy drove back home and finally took out the Mafia side-opening knife Charon had given him. This type of knife has a latch button on the handle. Pressing it shoots the blade out from the side and locks it in place. The blade is single-edged, resembling a bayonet design.
The one Jimmy received had a black horn handle with silver fixed rivets. Both the blade and the handle's bottom were bright silver, making it very noticeable and beautiful. The handle was about 15cm in length, and the blade approximately 12cm. When folded, it was compact and fully functional when opened.
