Chapter 587: Seventeen's Suspect
Annie Foster, unmarried, no criminal record, living in the East Village of Manhattan, quite near to Jimmy, her family information is registered in the system, but her family is not in New York.
Jimmy also dialed her phone number, but it was turned off and unable to connect.
Since Annie has no criminal record, the information Jimmy can find is just basic, including personal information, driver's license, etc. If he wants to continue investigating bank card information, it would require authorization from above. This case is not originally a case for the Homicide Team, investigating someone's personal privacy without permission is a violation, and Jimmy doesn't want to mess up in this area for now.
As for going directly to the site for investigation himself, it's not very convenient. An FBI agent knocking on the door just to confirm if someone is home is unreasonable, and it can lead to other bad associations.
Thinking it over, Jimmy directly called Nia, asking her to help investigate in the NYPD database and contact a nearby patrol officer to check her residence.
Nia checked the information, frowned at the monitor, and picked up the phone to ask: "What's wrong with this person?"
Jimmy: "Just confirming if she's missing, a friend asked me to check because they couldn't reach her via phone."
Nia: "We've been together for three years, and I didn't know you had a singer friend?"
Jimmy made a noise: "I'll explain later when I get back, just help me find a patrol officer to check it out."
Nia: "Okay, I'll wait for your explanation. A singer, a jazz singer no less, I've never seen you listen to jazz."
Jimmy indeed hasn't listened to much jazz, but Isaac and Woody from his bar really love it. Previously, when an old Jazz Club reopened, they went there a few times.
Nia didn't delay things, she checked Annie Foster's address and contacted a familiar patrol officer, just needing to adjust their patrol route slightly. Anyway, patrol officers drive around the streets daily, so checking a place doesn't waste time.
A welfare check by patrol officers counts as routine business, and if someone calls the police, officers can be arranged to handle it with good reasons.
Soon, Nia received a call from the patrol officer, Annie Foster was not home. After asking the neighbors, they mentioned they hadn't seen Annie for several days, and thought she was on a business trip or vacation.
However, even though they didn't see anyone, there was some gain. Her neighbors provided her workplace, a Jazz Club in Greenwich Village, where she occasionally performed and was quite popular.
Annie is not just an ordinary resident singer but a somewhat famous jazz musician, having released two jazz albums, although not widely spread. But she's definitely talented and has a good relationship with her neighbors.
After Nia and the patrol officer confirmed the situation, they thought about it and went straight to Jimmy's office.
Jimmy was still surprised to see Nia come over, as he mentioned on the phone he would explain tonight, and now she couldn't wait for even half a day?
Nia looked around Jimmy's office; he had moved to Mahong's previous position, while the other two desks were still empty, "Is this office just you?"
Jimmy shrugged: "The newcomers haven't been assigned yet, due to the chaos recently. They'll be arranged when Ruiz moves up. Why did you come over?"
Nia: "To see what you're up to, why are you looking into that Annie?"
Jimmy: "Your people checked it? What are the results?"
Nia: "She's not home, can't reach her by phone, and the neighbor said they haven't seen her for a few days."
Jimmy nodded slightly, looks like his guess was correct, as the identity of the victim in the dismemberment case gets closer to being discovered.
Jimmy opened his computer, bringing up the case information, "Take a look at this case, you've temporarily shelved it, but it hasn't been transferred to us."
Nia glanced at it: "I haven't seen this case." As she went through the information, Nia's face worsened, especially at the dismemberment case photos, the somewhat decayed corpse parts weren't pleasant to look at and made a strong impact.
Nia: "How did you determine the identity?"
Jimmy: "The tattoo, I've seen a similar style before, so I spent some time investigating."
Nia: "Are you sure?"
Jimmy: "Not yet, I was planning for you to handle it once the case was solved. The tattoo artist checked their client records, there aren't many clients with leg irises tattoo, two can't be contacted, Annie is one of them."
Nia: "What about the other one?"
Jimmy: "Their phone number has been canceled, definitely can't be reached, just a name doesn't confirm who it specifically is."
Nia: "What should be done next?"
Jimmy: "We can only first confirm the identity, still have to find Annie Foster."
Nia glanced at the screen, got up and left Jimmy's desk: "Better leave this case alone, no leads at all, taking it on would spend a lot of time, not worth it."
Jimmy laughed: "I originally prepared this for you, if you don't want to take the case, then let it be. How about tea? You're not in a hurry to return, right?"
Nia watched Jimmy skillfully brew tea, "Maybe, I'll prepare a set for you at home too."
