Chapter 4: Ch 004 Mage Combat
The basics of strategy and tactics, according to Petrose Holland is in the individual level, in the individual self. That when you have the foundation, the fundamentals, the basics, it will guide you not just in the outcome, but largely, in the teachings as well as understanding of the situation.
For this matter, he teaches Sasha Greyfounder the very basic of Strategy and Tactics. He says that strategy does not only encompass the way we think and understand a situation. It also encompasses the positioning of variables, and the manipulation of the information of the event itself. Not limited to it, but wholly to it. He demonstrate by asking Sasha if she is experienced as a combat mage: "Sasha, are you a combat mage?".
Sasha, relunctant in seeing sense of strategy and tactics to the question asks: "What if I am?".
"Simple, I will show you, that in the finest battles of individual combat, lies the secret to which we seek." - Petrose Holland
Sasha, upon fighting against him fell. "You fell Sasha, how was that possible for a close quarters mage such as yourself?" - Petrose Holland. "How?" "How was that possible?" - Sasha Greyfounder.
"Because Sasha, I have been guiding your actions through strategy, and leading your actions through tactics." - Petrose Holland
"Impossible, I'm well verse in the Vermillion Martial arts of the Phoenix. Then How?" - Sasha Greyfounder
"Verse is not the same as experience. Reciting a poem does not mean understanding it. They are totally two varied concepts." - Petrose Holland
"Then how was it?" - Sasha Greyfounder
"To set you up a trick, I don't want to expose the trick. It is the law of secrecy that makes us walk in silence. But for you to grow, I will tell how I predicted and guided your moves." - Petrose Holland
"Through my eyes, I reinforced them with magic, that alone defeated you." - Petrose Holland
It is said that the way of the forest is life, and the way of the blight is death. With forest comes life, with death comes destruction and ruin. Do not advance relying on the fact that death is the end result. It should be upon the perspective of life we all live. That is the essence of strategy, for us to survive.
The essence of tactics on the other hand is to conduct a victory over defeat, no matter what the means. This is why it always leads to destruction and the feat of losing ones love ones in turn a victory. It lacks strategy, it will always lose, according to Sun Tzu's book. These is because in tactics, forces to consider to survive do not matter. Though it is a part of it, it never ceases to envelop the key user of tactics that winning alone is the fundamental aspect. In the end, no one may survive. These is according to both Sun Tzu and Petrose Holland. As Petrose Holland, through remote sensing and remote viewing have understood the precepts of Sun Tzu, the author of the "Art of War". He was reading his mind as Sun Tzu was formulating it.
