Chapter 1124: Cheek: Zhang San, You Set Me Up! (Part 3)
It's hard to say in the long run, but at least for now, his individual ability hasn't deteriorated significantly due to changes in the environment, and he showed fierce performance at the start tonight.
The Clippers are truly building around the shooting guard Shawn Livingston, and their sixth man Westbrook.
Livingston's progress has been a bit slow, but he's young, after all, in his 5th career year and only 23 years old. This season, he has seen significant improvement. It seems he's entering a rapid growth period: averaging 14 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game, with a shooting percentage as high as 50.1%, able to post up, drive with the ball, and push fast breaks, truly everything except three-point shooting — his 25% three-point shooting is quite eye-catching but embarrassing. He's been required to shoot at least twice per game, yet one might say the current general manager of the Clippers had foresight, thinking that as a guard, developing the three-point is necessary.
Westbrook, the 4th pick, is the most popular player on the Clippers. After all, he came out of UCLA, and leaving university, he had a great local fan base in Los Angeles. His rookie season as the sixth man played quite okay, averaging 12.6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.3 steals, although the 39% shooting percentage is poor. But as a rookie, one must be tolerant. At 20 years old, he is seen alongside the 23-year-old Livingston as the future of the Clippers.
In the frontcourt, Randolph averages 21 points and 10 rebounds, Camby averages 9 points and 11 rebounds, Kaman averages 12 points and 8 rebounds, and Al Thornton averages 14 points, no matter the stats or strength, they are quite strong.
With such a core group of 7 people, and with most of them being healthy this year, only Kaman has been absent more, people are quite puzzled about how the Clippers ended up with a 12-win, 37-loss record.
Well, tonight the Clippers played so well in the first quarter.
But by the second quarter, the Clippers quickly fell apart and suddenly started playing chaotically, all those seemingly good plays from the first quarter vanished, and they just played individually, dropping their scoring from 29 points in the first quarter to 20 points.
The Bobcats, on the other hand, maintained stable performance, scoring 30 points in the quarter, leading the Clippers 58 to 49, entering halftime with a 9-point lead.
It's really not Clippers' head coach Mike Dunleavy making random moves, as he's a former Finals team coach, becoming a popular destination for Griffin, which he doesn't want either.
From the Clippers' high salary acquisition of Camby last summer, competing with teams for Fred Jones and Steve Novak, and attempting to pick up Ricky Davis, it's clear that the Clippers' front office had no intention of tanking, but the group's willingness to cooperate properly is very low.
If you carefully study the Clippers' wins in over ten games, one common feature emerges — they all began with a clear leading advantage and then kept momentum going to win the game.
Once they fail to establish an advantage in the first quarter or fall behind, they start playing chaotically afterward, individually racking up stats, with most players lacking the willingness to join forces and fight for victory.
At 8:23 PM, the game ended.
Zhang Yang scored 30 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, Felton had 17 points, 8 assists, Okafor had 15 points, 10 rebounds, while Hill off the bench scored the third-highest 18 points, and the Bobcats easily defeated the Clippers 111 to 94, securing 7 consecutive wins!
Simultaneously, this is the Bobcats' 40th win of the season, continuing to refresh their team history record for the half season!
Zhang Yang's experience in tonight's game was average. A win is a win, shooting 19 out of 10 with 4 three-pointers and 8 out of 6 free throws, scoring decently and with high shooting efficiency.
But playing with lousy players almost threw his rhythm off.
Yet there were stages that were very enjoyable — defending Westbrook.
Now Gui Gui, defending him is quite fun, not needing too much brain power, just press up, push hard, and follow closely without caring about his mid-range and long-range fake moves.
Gui Gui played 21 minutes tonight, spent 14 minutes matched against Zhang Yang, during which he shot 8 out of 2 scoring 4 points.
Livingston feels this rookie partner may have difficulty later on. With Zhang San's 'rookie abuse demonstration', other stars who enjoy bullying high-pick rookies, when they see Westbrook, won't they want to experience and try it thoroughly?
The next day, at home, the Bobcats faced the Wizards' challenge back-to-back.
Zhang Yang played 26 minutes, shooting 12 out of 7, including 4 out of 7 from three-pointers, and 6 out of 7 free throws, scoring 24 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block, clocking out by the third quarter.
101 to 89, the Bobcats easily defeated the Wizards, securing 8 consecutive wins, with a record of 41 wins and 9 losses!
After the back-to-back, the Bobcats rested for two days, on February 10th, welcoming the Hawks challenge at home.
Tonight, the Bobcats met a tough battle, being at a disadvantage during the first three quarters, the gap gradually widened by the opponent, finishing the third quarter trailing the Hawks by 8 points with a score of 67 to 75.
In the final quarter, Brad Miller, Felton, and Mike Miller connected on three-pointers, scoring consecutive 9 points, helping open up the situation for the Bobcats. Later, Felton and Mike Miller each scored another three-pointer.
Zhang Yang took the chance to open fire in high-position one-on-one, scoring 4 mid-range shots in the quarter, along with a fast-break layup, and a drive into the paint drawing a foul and hitting both free throws, scoring 12 points in the quarter.
Relying on the fierce offensive firepower of the Double Millers + Double Guns lineup, the Bobcats burst out a 35 to 22 score in the final quarter, eventually reversing the Hawks 102 to 97, grabbing 9 consecutive wins!
Zhang Yang scored 23 points in the first three quarters shooting 20 out of 8, holding the Bobcats' offensive baseline, exploding in the final quarter with 8 out of 5, scoring 12 points, shooting 28 out of 13, including 2 out of 6 from three-pointers, and 7 out of 9 free throws, scoring 35 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block overall!
