Chapter 198: Cannonball
Black Dragon Territories, Hidden Market District
Amidst this whirlwind, Damien walked calmly, unhurried and utterly unperturbed. Behind him followed Fluffy in human form but shoulders tense with obvious frustration, alongside Blackie and Rage Monkey, who both surveyed their surroundings warily.
Fluffy muttered loudly enough to draw wary glances, "This is ridiculous! Hiding and sneaking around like rats. Let them come. I'll give them another taste of my supreme might."
Damien sighed softly. "Keep your voice down. We don't need to provoke another scene."
Blackie shot Fluffy a warning glare, silencing him with a quick, sharp look. "We have enough trouble as it is."
Rage Monkey, glancing at Fluffy with wide eyes of admiration, whispered softly, "Don't worry, Brother Fluffy, your magnificence can't be hidden for long."
Damien kept walking, navigating the market and tavern areas of the vast black dragon territory, ears attuned carefully to the conversations and whispers around them. Dragons and their guests filled inns and cafes, clustered around tables, speaking in hushed, urgent tones.
What Damien heard made him pause, eyes narrowing with interest.
"Did you hear? The Crown Prince… He was actually killed. Murdered outright, and in his own territory!"
"No one's safe now. The Matriarch is furious. Her Apostles have been unleashed."
"Rumor has it, it was some outsider. Perhaps a powerful assassin from another clan?"
Damien shook his head slightly, suppressing a grim smile. Fluffy sniffed in disdain. "Assassin? Please. It was the great Fluffy, avenging my caretaker!"
Damien quickly elbowed him, eyes narrowed. "Quiet."
They moved deeper into a crowded inn, blending easily among fighting prisoners, mercenaries, and warriors who filled the smoky hall. Conversations around them revealed more intriguing news.
"I heard they're training their younger generation dragons against the prisoners even harder now." muttered a grizzled fighter near the bar. "The dragons are paranoid, convinced something big is coming from the human civilisations."
"From Earth? What could come from such a pathetic gathering of weaklings?" Another snorted in disdain.
"Not Earth, dumb shit, but from the main human civilisation!" The grizzled fighter mocked him.
"Aye, true. The main human civilisation is a powerful force, it is no wonder they're scared." agreed another fighter grimly.
"Word from the Blue Dragon clan is they're pushing prisoners to the breaking point. They got a prisoner there, some old guy from Earth, named Li Qingshan. They say he's unstoppable, stronger than some dragons."
Damien halted abruptly, eyes flashing with sudden intensity. The Grand Marshal?
Blackie moved close, voice low. "Li Qingshan… isn't that the one you mentioned before? The one who left China to find the Lion King?"
Damien nodded slowly, heart quickening slightly. "It seems his path took a strange turn."
Fluffy's eyes lit up eagerly. "Ah, a powerful human? Perhaps another potential admirer for the great Fluffy!"
"Stay focused," Damien murmured firmly. "The inheritor might be here, hidden amid this turmoil."
Rage Monkey leaned in eagerly. "So what's the plan, boss?"
Damien's voice was calm and decisive. "We follow these leads. If Li Qingshan has gained prominence in the Blue Dragon clan, he might have seen something. We'll go look for him once we're done looking for the inheritor here in the Black Dragon Clan. This chaos within the Black Dragons gives us perfect cover. We keep low, move fast, and uncover the truth before the Apostles find us."
Fluffy sighed dramatically. "Fine. I suppose I can restrain my glorious aura… for now."
Damien glanced at Blackie, who nodded with quiet approval.
She had turned out to be a dependable underling, quite unlike the other two… monkeys.
The crowd murmured around them, tension and unease palpable in the air. From whispers of murder to hushed admiration for the mysterious Li Qingshan, the territory hummed with anxiety and speculation.
They exited the inn into the dimly lit streets, winding through chaotic clusters of confused dragons and vigilant guards.
Damien moved with confidence, shadowed by his unusual but powerful team. He sensed the danger, the promise of battle and turmoil ahead but also the thrilling edge of opportunity.
Around them, dragon patrols frantically searched every corner, every alley. Cries and roars echoed from far off, punctuating the urgency that hung thick in the air.
Damien stepped into the broad street lined with lantern-lit establishments, scanning the bustling crowd of dragons in human forms and human prisoners with an impassive gaze.
Even though the dragons considered humans as a lesser race, they still adopted their forms when gathered within their cities. The small size made transactions and logistics much simpler and smoother.
The chaos from the Crown Prince's sudden death still echoed loudly, unsettling and electrifying the air. Dragons surged everywhere, voices rising in worry or excitement, spreading rumors and speculation like wildfire.
He moved silently, Rage Monkey trailing behind, eyes darting everywhere with fascination. Blackie walked close beside Damien, her sharp gaze scanning for threats, while Fluffy, in human form yet no less ostentatious, strutted behind them with exaggerated dignity, dramatically tossing his hair.
"This city is unbearably crude," Fluffy complained loudly, his voice full of theatrical disdain. "It lacks the grandeur worthy of true dragon civilization."
Several passing dragons shot him irritated glances, clearly unamused.
Damien ignored him, instead focusing on a particularly rowdy group of black dragons gathered near a street corner. They were huddled close together, their voices rough with crude laughter, eyes fixed openly and greedily on Blackie.
"Look at that one," one of them sneered, his voice deliberately loud. "Never seen such beauty among these humans. Maybe she'd like to learn how a true dragon treats a woman."
His friends laughed loudly, eyeing her openly, vulgar smiles on their faces.
Blackie's expression remained carefully neutral, her posture graceful and untouched by the vulgar stares and lewd comments from the rowdy dragons nearby. But her two self-proclaimed sons were not about to let such insolence go unanswered.
Rage Monkey's ears twitched, his grin vanishing. "Did… did they just say that about Mom?" he asked, eyes narrowing. A second later, he cracked his knuckles, steam practically rising from his shoulders. "I'll rearrange their faces."
Fluffy stepped forward grandly, shadow energy curling around his shoulders like a cloak. "You dare insult our matriarch?" he thundered. "Prepare yourselves! For divine punishment!"
The dragons turned in alarm just as Fluffy's voice rose another octave, arms outstretched dramatically. Rage Monkey let out a war cry, lunging like a cannonball toward the nearest one.
