Chapter 196: Subtlety
The Crown Prince's dragon underlings were stunned out of their minds.
They found it supremely impossible that their glorious and super powerful Crown Prince had been killed in such a miserable fashion.
It couldn't be!
This must be a dream!
Rage Monkey's jaw hung open, eyes wide with awe. Blackie closed her eyes slowly, resigning herself to the escalating disaster. "So much for subtlety."
Fluffy folded his enormous wings triumphantly, puffing his skeletal chest out with immense satisfaction. He turned toward Damien, scarlet eyes alight with smug pride. "There! My dignity has been restored!"
Damien sighed heavily, massaging his temples with weary frustration. "Fluffy…"
Fluffy snorted indignantly. "He deserved every bit of that! No one touches my caretaker and escapes punishment!"
Damien shook his head, voice firm yet exasperated. "We were trying not to attract attention."
Fluffy raised his head, completely unapologetic. "That's precisely what happens when you place the great Fluffy in a compromising situation! Clearly, my magnificence defies stealth!"
Rage Monkey bounced excitedly, fist raised in joyous adulation. "Brother Fluffy, you're my hero! A true warrior!"
Damien exhaled again.
This was his fate.
To be surrounded by bloodthirsty underlings that had no concept of subtlety and tact.
"Well, we've definitely attracted attention now. Let's move quickly before reinforcements arrive."
Blackie stepped forward calmly, her violet eyes flickering thoughtfully. "This event changes everything. Killing the Crown Prince will unleash chaos throughout the clan, but chaos can work to our advantage."
Damien nodded firmly. "Yes, and we can use that chaos."
Fluffy, hearing this, lifted his massive head with enthusiasm. "Precisely! With Fluffy at your side, victory is guaranteed. Follow my lead!"
But even as he boasted, the sky erupted with enraged roars.
The Crown Prince's underlings finally awakened from their shock.
Dozens of black dragons descended swiftly upon them, eyes blazing with fury and hatred.
"Kill the intruders!" they roared, attacking with devastating breath weapons and vicious strikes.
The sky instantly lit up with their fearsome attacks.
Fluffy laughed, unfazed, turning dramatically to face them. "You dare challenge the unmatched might of the legendary Fluffy? Witness your doom!"
Death energy, laced with fire, shadow, and a flicker of lightning, exploded from Fluffy's core in a breathtaking surge, tearing through the air like a living maelstrom.
The pulse of elemental power was overwhelming, its roar thunderous, shaking the very foundations of the Black Dragon arena.
Dragons dove to avoid the blast, but those caught in its radius screamed as their vitality was drained in seconds, their scales graying, eyes dimming, until they collapsed as withered husks.
Fluffy's eyes blazed crimson, his form a whirlwind of bone and fury.
He lunged into the swarm, each claw swipe leaving trails of dark flame, each tail strike smashing armored dragons into the obsidian walls. His wings beat once, sending out another wave of compressed death energy, turning the battlefield into a vortex of annihilation.
A high-ranking lieutenant charged him, snarling in rage, only for Fluffy to catch the dragon's jaws mid-bite and snap them in half with a brutal twist, his death energy flaring as the corpse crumbled to ash.
Rage Monkey leapt from dragon to dragon, fists glowing with condensed shadowfire, his movements erratic but brutally effective.
"For Fluffy!" he howled, kicking a dragon through three pillars.
Blackie danced through the chaos, every step followed by frost-laced shadow blades that carved deep into flesh, her elegance a cold contrast to the carnage.
Their enemies had come in pride. Now, they knew fear.
Damien stood there quietly to witness the strength of his underlings, especially Fluffy.
"Impressive." Was the single word that appeared in his mind.
The battlefield became a storm of chaos, explosions of shadow and frost mingling with dragonfire.
Fluffy's triumphant roar reverberated through the skies, a clear challenge to the dragon world itself. His foes trembled, fleeing from the overwhelming force unleashed by the guardian beast.
Within moments, the tide turned decisively. Fluffy's unmatched power was no longer merely boastful, it was undeniable.
"Run, you cowards!" Fluffy roared triumphantly. "The mighty Fluffy is generous today. Flee now and live to whisper my glorious name!"
As the black dragons scattered in panicked retreat, the shockwave of the Crown Prince's death rippled throughout the black dragon territory. Alarm bells sounded from towering spires, panic spreading rapidly through the magnificent, shadowy kingdom.
Damien surveyed the resulting chaos calmly, seeing an opportunity in the turmoil. "This confusion is exactly what we need. Move quickly, stay close. Fluffy! Get small! Now!"
"Hmph! Only weaklings need chaos to mask their movements," Fluffy declared, striking a heroic pose even as his bones shimmered and he reluctantly morphed into his human form. "If you'd just let me take the lead, I would make them tremble so thoroughly they'd roll over and hand you the inheritor out of sheer reverence!"
Damien didn't even blink. "And then what? Let the supremely powerful inheritor kill you on the spot?"
"Uh. Uhh." Fluffy's confident posture wavered. "Well, I mean... there's a chance they might hesitate? Out of awe?"
"Enough," Blackie snapped, clearly unimpressed. "Obey our master. Let's go."
She strode forward with regal composure, weaving through the twisting spires of black stone and towering obsidian arches like she belonged there, which, technically, she did.
Fluffy shuffled after her, still grumbling under his breath and pouting like a sulking teenager forced to attend a family dinner.
Rage Monkey scampered up beside him, eyes gleaming with admiration. "Brother Fluffy, I didn't know you were that awesome!"
Fluffy's pout melted instantly. He puffed his chest out and lifted his chin proudly. "You vastly underestimate my brilliance, little monkey brother. The world has simply failed to appreciate me properly."
Damien walked a few paces ahead, silent and composed, his eyes sweeping across the shifting shadows of the Black Dragon clan's once-imposing domain.
What had been a landscape of strict order and majestic precision now roiled with chaos. Dragons soared in disarray, their flight paths jagged and erratic. Guards barked over one another, racing through corridors and skyways, their formations shattered.
Alarm runes pulsed furiously along the dark stone spires, casting flickering crimson light over the confusion.
The death of the Crown Prince had unraveled centuries of rigid hierarchy in a single stroke.
As Damien moved through the heart of it all, calm amidst the storm, a faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
True, subtlety had been abandoned, but perhaps subtlety was overrated. Fluffy's outburst had provided exactly the distraction they needed.
Now, the hunt for the first inheritor would begin in earnest beneath the cover of turmoil and shadow, amid the proud dragons' overwhelming fury.
And Damien was determined to see it through, knowing his mission would be anything but predictable.
