Chapter 140: War is coming
"Beijing has enough mosquitoes without needing vampire cosplay on top of it," he muttered, dusting off his coat.
Blackhowl tried to rise again, snarling.
General Riki met him mid-charge and shoved a bolt of lightning directly into his chest.
"You hit like a constipated yak suffering from Coronavirus and Lung Cancer." he shouted, twisting the blade with a grin. "And smell worse than a dung beetle!"
The rest of the generals continued without so much as a whisper.
Their coordination were born of countless battles with powerful warriors from the European Empire. Every single one of their movements were smooth and deadly.
Their attacks overwhelmed and suppressed the six S-ranked beasts before they could even transform.
Chains wrapped around limbs. Psychic force pinned wings. Gravity locked bodies to the earth. Elemental fury cut through crystal, flame, blood, and bone.
One by one, the beasts fell.
Not in chaos. Not in fury.
But in absolute, coordinated silence.
And in the aftermath, only two voices remained. General Riki and General Maru.
"Six down," General Riki muttered casually, as if he hadn't just bullied half a dozen S-ranked enemies in a completely one-sided beatdown with superior numbers. "Still not even warmed up."
General Maru cracked his neck, gazing down at the smoking crater where Bloodmist lay twitching in defeat.
"Tell your boss," he said darkly, "if he wants to kidnap our students next time, he should send someone who doesn't break when we sneeze on them. Oh wait—" he grinned. "You're not going home, are you?"
He leaned forward, voice gleeful.
"You're going to our military resort! Five-star service. World-class food. And the best 'massages' in the business! Wahahaha!"
Then, as if on cue, silence fell once more.
Six generals, all S-rank, all powerful enough to wipe cities off the map, had been beaten and shackled by humanity's finest.
Damien landed beside Fatty and Elly as the last of the light dimmed from the sky.
Elly looked dazed, but unharmed. Fatty was upside down and groaning. The crowd was still cheering in the arena, unaware of the war that had almost erupted just a kilometer away.
General Maru turned to nod at him briefly before turning his attention to a beautiful woman, General Lin Kexin of the Silent Gale Division.
The S-rank psychic, was a middle-aged woman with ice-white hair and a cruel smile, stepped toward the captives and raised two fingers. Her eyes glowed as her voice slipped into their minds like silk.
"Now then. Let's see what secrets your empire has been hiding…"
The beast generals howled and resisted. At least they thought they did.
But within minutes, they were babbling every secret they had.
And the humans listening all paled at what they heard.
Bloodmist spat in defiance. "You humans can't—"
He froze abruptly, his eyes glazing over as the psychic force overwhelmed him instantly. Slowly, the defiance drained from his expression, replaced by a vacant, almost childlike obedience.
"The Demon Fox Emperor has awakened fully," Bloodmist began mechanically, voice devoid of any resistance. "His power is beyond S-rank, close to what you humans call SS-rank. He commands the Beast Empire from the forest basin beyond the northern mountains. Twelve S-ranked generals serve him. He plans to invade your human realm soon. The Lioness Queen has stopped him temporarily, but once the Lion Emperor fully awakens... there will be no stopping them."
A heavy silence settled over the group, tension and unease rippling visibly across each face.
"How many?" General Liang demanded urgently. "How many beasts does the Demon Fox command?"
Bloodmist's blank eyes stared forward. "More than one hundred thousand A-ranked awakened beasts and millions more below that rank. His generals alone could raze your cities. The Lion Emperor's forces will double that strength."
Murmurs and worried glances passed through the gathered humans, the reality of their situation settling heavily upon them. Even the usually composed General Maru paled slightly, fists clenching tightly.
"Timeframe," the psychic woman pressed softly. "How long until they attack?"
"Soon," Bloodmist whispered. "Within two months at most. They wait only for the Lion Emperor to fully awaken."
Damien clenched his jaw tightly, his mind racing. Two months. They had mere weeks before the conclusion of the war with Europe and now, simultaneously, had to prepare for an unprecedented beast invasion.
General Maru turned slowly toward Damien, his expression somber. "Looks like the Europeans just became the least of our worries."
Damien nodded gravely, gaze distant.
"You will need to end the war with Europe, boy. Our survival will depend on it." General Chen said to Damien in a sombre voice.
Damien didn't find it strange that the Generals present actually knew who he was.
With the power he had exhibited within BGA and during the retaliation strike to the Emerald Pine Basin, it would be a communication disaster if the top brass of the country still didn't know who he was.
Damien nodded slowly.
He had no qualms whatsoever about the upcoming fight with Europe's strongest below 25 years old.
If they actually had someone who could beat him, then they would probably deserve to win the damn war.
Elly shivered softly at his side, her voice small and worried appearing within his mind. "Master... I never thought my father would awaken so quickly."
Damien laid a reassuring hand gently atop her head, eyes filled with determination and resolve. "Don't worry, Elly. Whatever it takes, we'll get through this."
The gathered S-ranked warriors began discussing strategies urgently, their voices filled with tense determination. They quickly transported the captive generals away for deeper interrogation, leaving Damien, Fatty, and Elly standing quietly together beneath the starless sky.
Fatty let out a slow breath, scratching his head thoughtfully. "Things got really serious, really quickly, huh, boss?"
Damien nodded once, eyes glinting sharply. "And they'll get even more serious soon."
His thoughts flickered briefly toward Jiang Xiao Yu, who had abruptly left earlier. Something must've happened with her family. Could her family's situation somehow be connected to all this turmoil?
"Boss," Fatty said hesitantly, breaking Damien's thoughts. "You think we'll be ready?"
Damien's gaze remained steady, determination etched into every line of his face. "We have no choice. We will be."
Elly squeezed his hand softly, drawing his gaze back to her. "I'll help too, Master. I promise."
Damien nodded gently, feeling a surge of resolve from the bond between them. Whatever battles awaited, he knew he wouldn't face them alone.
The night deepened around them, Beijing's lights glittering quietly in the distance, a city unaware of the immense danger looming ever closer.
