Ning Qing: A Life Rewritten

Chapter 17: Chapter 17

Ning Qing was about to pay Village Headman Ning Kai for the cart fare, but he refused. He said that he wanted to help his best friend's grandson, so Ning Qing didn't pay for the cart fare. Village Headman Ning Kai even helped her carry the stuff down.

"Grandpa, you can leave it here. We'll handle the rest. I've been bothering you all day."

"Hey! Don't think like that. I'm willing to help you, understand? Don't be shy with me. If you have any concerns, go to the village to find me. Don't forget, Ning Qing."

"I won't forget, Grandpa. I thank you very much."

After saying goodbye, Village Headman Ning Kai drove the cart back to the village because it was already late afternoon. He was afraid that he would arrive home before it was dark.

When he saw that the village headman had left, Ning Qing called her younger siblings to help carry the stuff into the house. She didn't buy many things, because she only bought the necessary things. After arranging her things, Ning Qing also asked her mother to tell her grandparents that she had moved, but her father was not convenient to travel to see them. If they needed anything, they would be happy to help.

Xiao Shui saw that her daughter had already taken care of everything, so she promised her daughter that she would hurry back and cook for everyone. But Ning Qing told her that she would go to the kitchen herself today. She wanted her mother to have some time to spend with her grandparents.

Xiao Shui could only smile at her eldest daughter who was very knowledgeable. No matter what, she would hurry back and take care of her husband. After all, he had not eaten or taken medicine yet. She had to boil medicine for him to drink every day.

Ning Qing, who saw her mother leave empty-handed, could only take some rice and flour to share with her grandparents. This time, she bought quite a bit so that she would not have to buy it often. When Xiao Shui saw that her daughter had arranged everything, she could only thank her daughter and hurried to her parents' house.

Ning Qing saw that her mother had left, so she started to cook nourishing food for her father. She bought pork bones to boil into soup for her father to eat. Along with a few stir-fried vegetables for her and her siblings, she thought that her mother should be eating at her grandparents' house, so she didn't think much of it. After all, she had been cooking since her previous life. Ning Qing also put some seasoning powder in the soup and food to make it taste better. Ning Gui and Ning Yang smelled the food and came over to look at what their sister was cooking and why it smelled so good that their stomachs were growling. Ning Qing let her siblings try a little bit of the food after they were done before letting them bring it to the dining table. Fortunately, her father had no problem eating by himself. She just had to slowly help him bring him to the dining table. Ning Guan asked about Xiao Shui. When he found out that she went to her parents' house, he didn't say anything. It had been so long since they got married that his wife hadn't come back to visit her parents' house. It was him who had been busy growing herbs and didn't pay any attention to her. In the future, he would take better care of his wife and children after he recovered. Even when his wife and children were hurt by someone in the house, he didn't know anything. He only found out when they separated. This made him even angrier about Lan Jiu, who had been constantly hurting him and his family. He still couldn't understand why his mother was like this. She didn't seem like a mother who loved her children at all. She also raised his siblings to be lazy. He didn't know how those people would make money. Now that they were separated, he didn't want to worry anymore. Xiao Shui returned home shortly after they had finished eating. She was urged by her parents to have dinner together, so she came back late. However, her children and husband smiled at her and said it was fine. They had already eaten. All that was left was to boil medicine for their father. Xiao Shui hurriedly went to boil medicine for her husband to drink. The medicine was almost gone. They wanted to take their father to the city where there were good doctors to treat him rather than seeing the local doctors like they did now. They felt that they didn't have much money left after moving. Ning Qing told everyone not to worry about this. Tomorrow morning, she and her siblings still had to plant the seedlings they had brought with them. It wouldn't be too late to talk about other things. Ning Guan saw his daughter planning things and could only go along with it. Because he saw that Ning Qing was more of a leader than him, he did not object to his daughter's arrangements. Besides, she would be 14 years old next year. He still could not find a fiance for his daughter. Ning Qing also said that if her family was like this, she would definitely not get married. Ning Guan left it up to his daughter to decide how to handle her own affairs. He did not want to force his daughter on these matters. He would be almost twenty years old by the time he got married because he had to save up money to get married to be worthy of his good wife. Tonight, everyone in the house had a new room to sleep in. Ning Qing still slept with her younger sister Ning Gui. Ning Yang slept alone in the adjacent room. Ning Guan and Xiao Shui also had their own rooms to sleep in. Ning Qing had her younger siblings clean the house before she came back from the market. She checked and saw that her younger siblings cleaned well, so she gave each of them a piece of snack she bought from the market. Her younger siblings were so happy that they almost jumped. They had never eaten any snacks since they were born. Only their elder sister knew that they had wanted to eat such snacks for a long time. This made Ning Guan feel even more guilty. He had given most of the money he had from selling herbs to his mother, so he could not even buy snacks for his own children. He was truly a useless father. Xiao Shui knew what he was thinking when she saw her husband's sad face. She also said that her children understood him well, so he should not worry about anything.
