Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Anis’ Big Brain Plan
At this moment, Mo Chen was in the command room receiving a report.
"Recently, the outpost has taken in a total of 379 Nikkes. Among them, 172 fled because they failed their missions and feared memory wipes. Ninety-nine were abandoned on the battlefield as 'cut-off tails,' and another twelve are suspected of having killed their own commanders."
"The remaining Nikkes suffered brain damage and memory loss, so the reasons for their departure from the Ark are unknown."
Rapi carefully explained the current situation, documenting every detail and archiving the profiles of each Nikke.
Mo Chen set down his teacup after hearing the report, letting out a sigh.
So many Nikkes, each with their own story.
"In addition, through Shifty, we investigated data on Nikkes operating outside the Ark in recent years. It appears that the number of missing Nikkes is increasing."
"Including the ones that came here?"
"Yes, even including those, the trend of disappearing Nikkes is still rising."
Mo Chen pondered for a moment.
The first thing that came to mind was the Black Smith, but he had already dealt with that threat.
Next was Material H.
In the original storyline, most of the missing Nikkes had been captured by Material H.
Material H lurked underground, with tentacles that spanned over twenty kilometers and could even alter the terrain.
Its presence posed a significant threat to the outpost. Eliminating it had to be a priority.
Additionally, its body contained fragments of a Heretic.
After finishing the report, Mo Chen rubbed his temples.
The workload had been overwhelming lately. He hadn't expected there to be so many issues requiring attention. Even with his experience, he was starting to feel the strain.
The door suddenly creaked open, and Anis tiptoed inside. She grinned mischievously, attempting to cover Mo Chen's eyes from behind.
However, Mo Chen immediately grabbed her hands mid-act.
"Trying to strangle me?"
Anis pouted, rolling her eyes at him.
"Come on, can't you just pretend to fall for it once?"
"Hm?"
Mo Chen noticed something in Anis' hands. She opened her palm, revealing a voucher.
Anis raised her chin proudly and announced, "Ta-da! A hot spring voucher!"
"For me?"
Mo Chen was surprised.
Not far from the outpost was a volcanic zone with natural hot springs. It was a dormant volcano, and Mo Chen had decided to make use of it by converting the area into a hot spring resort.
Because the hot springs had become wildly popular, they had to limit entry. Access required a voucher.
Even though Mo Chen had been the one to discover it, he hadn't had the chance to try it out yet.
"Of course!"
Anis leaned playfully on Mo Chen's shoulder. "So, Commander, want to go?"
Mo Chen didn't take the voucher right away but instead glanced at her suspiciously.
"Acting all nice without a reason—what did you do this time to make people so angry?"
Anis immediately protested her innocence.
"What? How could you say that? Am I that kind of person?"
Mo Chen nodded.
"Absolutely."
"Ugh, fine! Forget it. I'll just take it back and give it to someone who'll appreciate it."
Anis pretended to be upset and tried to take the voucher away.
But Mo Chen swiftly snatched it from her hands.
"Alright, you can leave now."
Anis protested loudly.
"Hey! Who was the little puppy just now that said they didn't want it?"
"Hmm, that little puppy is called Anis."
"Let's make it clear—you owe me one for this."
"Thank you, Lady Anis."
"That's more like it."
Anis left the room satisfied after handing over the voucher.
Mo Chen looked at the hot spring voucher in his hand and thought it was about time he took a break.
Since today was the celebration, the place would likely be empty—perfect timing for him to visit.
Anis actually wasn't too bad. Despite acting carefree most of the time, she still thought about him.
Mo Chen couldn't help but feel a little touched.
However, what he didn't know was that as soon as Anis stepped out of the door, she clenched her fist excitedly—mission accomplished!
Her cheeks were flushed red with excitement.
That's right, this had all been part of Anis' plan.
She had long been plotting to make a move on the Commander.
With the number of Nikkes in the outpost growing every day, she was starting to panic.
At this rate, even if the Commander were split into hundreds of pieces, there wouldn't be enough of him to go around.
So, Anis decided to take the initiative.
Once, she had obtained an old USB drive from a group of wandering Nikkes.
It supposedly contained instructional videos about improving male-female relationships, and after watching it, Anis was absolutely stunned.
She never imagined there could be so many "techniques."
One particular segment involving hot springs was practically a revelation for her.
It made Anis realize that her usual methods weren't going to cut it anymore.
She had to find a unique approach, capitalize on niche strategies, leverage her advantages in this new era, and establish dominance through specialized tactics—blah blah blah.
Of course, Anis didn't actually understand all those marketing buzzwords.
She just knew one thing—she had to seduce the Commander!
"Hey, Anis, what are you doing?"
"Ah!"
Anis jumped in surprise and turned around to see Neon.
"What the heck? You scared me!"
Neon looked startled too.
"You scared me first! Weren't you supposed to be out on patrol?"
"I'll go in a bit." Anis' eyes darted as she quickly came up with an idea. "Oh, right! Did you hear? The hot springs are closed for maintenance."
Neon's face immediately fell, full of disappointment.
"What? No way! I was planning to sneak off to the hot springs while everyone's at the party. How could this happen? Ugh…"
"Just go next time."
"Ugh… How could this happen?"
Neon trudged away, looking utterly defeated.
Anis had successfully gotten rid of Neon.
Anis clenched her fist, a sly glint flashing in her eyes.
Another one down!
She quietly returned to her room, grabbed the beer and cups she had prepared in advance, and tiptoed toward the hot spring area.
Since most people were attending the celebration, there were barely any visitors at the hot spring.
Perfect timing to make her move.
However, things didn't go as planned. Just as Anis was about to step inside, an alert came through her communicator.
"Rapture incursion detected! Raptures spotted northeast! Please respond immediately!"
Damn it! Why did it have to be now?
Anis cursed her bad luck.
But she had already volunteered for patrol duty earlier to fool Neon and the others.
Left with no choice, Anis stomped her foot in frustration and angrily headed out.
She swore she would blow up every single Rapture that dared to show up, then rush back to continue with her plan for the evening.
Meanwhile, in another part of the outpost—
The base was filled with all kinds of decorations and festive displays.
Lanterns, paper lights, banners, and various trinkets adorned the streets.
The entire place was lit up with colorful decorations.
Smiles were plastered across everyone's faces.
"This… is the so-called 'Gensokyo'? It feels like paradise!"
