Chapter 77: Chapter 50: I Am Spider-Man
In the distance beyond the Chicago Outfit building, Logan and Beta were locked in an intense, brutal one-on-one battle. The clash between them had taken them far from the city, into a secluded area surrounded by trees and rocky terrain.
Logan stood with his body bloodied, his breath heavy as he panted from exhaustion. Though his face bore no visible wounds thanks to his regeneration ability, the toll of the fight was evident. His adamantium claws gleamed faintly in the moonlight, a testament to his unyielding resolve.
Across from him stood Beta, just as injured but still full of rage. His wounds healed almost instantly, making him look unstoppable. His body radiated power, and his eyes burned with wild anger, glowing fiercely in the dark.
Logan spat to the side and muttered, "Tsk... this isn't going to end anytime soon."
Beta snarled, his voice booming. "I, Beta, strong!!!"
With a guttural roar, Beta lunged at Logan, aiming a powerful fist directly at Logan's gut. Logan barely had time to react, crossing his arms defensively in front of him. The impact was devastating, sending Logan hurtling backward. He crashed through the dense forest, smashing into several trees before managing to anchor himself with his adamantium claws.
As he came to a stop, Logan coughed violently, blood spurting from his mouth. He wiped it away with the back of his hand, grimacing. "Tsk," he muttered again, the frustration clear in his voice.
Beta wasted no time, charging toward Logan like an unstoppable force of nature. Logan gritted his teeth, his claws extending fully with a metallic snikt.
With a battle cry, Logan lunged toward Beta, meeting his charge head-on. "Fuck you!!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the forest.
The two collided with a thunderous impact, claws and fists slashing and striking in a chaotic flurry. The ground beneath them trembled, dirt and debris flying in all directions. Both fighters pushed their bodies to the limit, their regeneration abilities keeping them alive in what would otherwise be a fatal clash.
Beta swung a massive fist, narrowly missing Logan as the latter ducked and retaliated with a vicious slash across Beta's chest. Beta roared in pain but quickly healed, his wounds knitting together almost instantaneously.
"You.... think.... you... can stop... Beta....?!" Beta growled, his voice dripping with malice.
Logan smirked, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. "I don't think... I know."
Beta roared, veins bulging as his rage boiled over. "You... die!" he bellowed, lunging forward with a massive fist aimed squarely at Logan.
Logan reacted on instinct, sidestepping the attack with a hair's breadth of space to spare. Using the momentum of Beta's missed strike, Logan spun and delivered a powerful kick to Beta's face, sending the larger man staggering momentarily. Without missing a beat, Logan raised his adamantium claws, aiming for Beta's eyes in a deadly counterattack.
But Beta's reflexes proved faster than Logan had anticipated. With a desperate motion, Beta raised his massive hands to shield his face. The claws sank deep into Beta's palms, the sharp metal cutting through flesh and bone with sickening ease.
"AARRRGH!" Beta roared in pain, shaking the forest with his guttural scream. His hands trembled as he grasped at Logan's claws, which were now deeply embedded and pinned within his flesh.
Logan grimaced, trying to yank his claws free. "Damn it! Come on!" he muttered under his breath, straining against Beta's sheer strength.
But Beta wouldn't let go. He tightened his grip around Logan's arms, a twisted grin spreading across his monstrous face despite the pain. Blood dripped from his punctured hands, staining the ground beneath them.
"Oh, fuck," Logan muttered as he realized the predicament he was in.
With a triumphant roar, Beta slammed Logan into the ground with all his might, the impact leaving a crater in the dirt. Logan gasped as the air was forced from his lungs, but he had no chance to recover. Beta lifted him again and slammed him down a second time, then a third.
Logan's claws were still lodged in Beta's hands, locking him in place. He struggled to free himself, but Beta's grip was unrelenting.
Beta leaned in close, his face contorted in a mixture of pain and fury. "Now... you... can't... es...cape... Beta," he said, his words slow and broken, the intelligence behind them childlike and primitive.
Logan gritted his teeth, his mind racing for a way out. His body ached from the repeated impacts, but he wasn't ready to give up.
"You're strong, I'll give you that," Logan growled, spitting blood onto the dirt. "But strong doesn't mean smart."
He steeled himself, his sharp instincts kicking in as he prepared to turn the tide of the battle, even if it meant risking everything.
Logan winced as he felt his body slam into the ground again, each impact sending sharp jolts of pain through his battered frame. Blood smeared across his face, and the metallic tang of it filled his mouth. Yet, through the haze of pain, his mind raced with one grim realization:
"This monster... I need to tear my arm off, or I won't escape here alive."
His regenerative ability would allow him to recover, but the thought of severing his own limb still sent a chill down his spine. He hated it, but there was no other way.
Beta roared triumphantly, slamming Logan into the ground once more. "Beta... strong! You ... weak!" he bellowed, his low, broken words echoing in the dense forest.
Logan gritted his teeth, biding his time. He knew he couldn't act recklessly. Beta's monstrous strength left no room for mistakes. "Just a little longer," he thought, feeling the tight grip of Beta's bloodied hands keeping his claws trapped.
The opportunity came when Beta lifted Logan for another devastating slam. In that brief moment before impact, Logan tensed his muscles and twisted his body sharply, pulling against the angle of Beta's grip. The pain was searing, white-hot, as his claws sliced through his own forearm.
With a sickening crunch, his arm tore free, leaving Beta holding the severed limb. Logan hit the ground, rolling away in an explosion of dirt and leaves, gasping as blood poured from the wound.
"What...?" Beta looked at the severed arm in his grasp, confused and momentarily distracted by the sudden change.
Logan didn't waste a second. He clutched his bleeding stump, his regenerative ability already kicking in to seal the wound and begin growing a new arm. He glared at Beta, his face twisted in a mixture of pain and defiance. "You're strong, alright," Logan growled, his voice low and gravelly. "But don't think for a second that I'm giving up."
Beta roared, tossing the severed arm aside as he charged at Logan. But this time, Logan was ready. His escape had bought him precious moments to regroup, and now he was determined to bring this fight to an end.
He lunged forward with a feral snarl, his adamantium claws gleaming, ready to prove that strength alone wouldn't be enough to stop him.
Logan's animalistic instincts took over as he attacked Beta relentlessly, his adamantium claws slicing through the air in a blur. He moved with unparalleled ferocity, striking Beta from every angle. Each slash was calculated, driven by primal rage and the will to survive.
Beta roared, shielding himself with his massive arms as Logan's claws left deep gashes in his flesh. Despite the assault, Beta's sheer durability allowed him to stand firm. With a guttural growl, he swung a massive fist at Logan.
Logan's heightened senses kicked in. The scent of Beta's sweat and blood filled his nostrils, giving him a split-second warning. He dodged the punch effortlessly, weaving and striking back with surgical precision.
"You can't touch me!" Logan shouted, his voice echoing with raw determination.
Beta, however, wasn't slowing down. His already formidable strength seemed to grow. His muscles swelled, his skin turning a deep crimson, veins bulging as his form expanded grotesquely.
"RAWRRRRR!" Beta's roar shook the ground, his transformation complete.
Logan froze for a split second, his eyes narrowing as he took in Beta's monstrous new form. "You gotta be kidding me!" he muttered, his disbelief quickly giving way to grim determination.
Beta lunged forward, his massive frame moving with terrifying speed. Logan barely had time to react as Beta's colossal foot slammed into his chest, sending him hurtling through the air like a ragdoll.
Logan crashed into a pile of debris, the impact shattering wood and metal around him. He groaned, staggering to his feet, his healing factor already working to mend his injuries. Blood dripped from his mouth as he steadied himself. "What a fucking monster," he spat.
But Beta wasn't finished. The hulking creature charged again, his fist raised high. Logan braced himself, but before he could fully recover, Beta's punch landed squarely, sending him flying once more.
This time, Logan flew farther, his body tumbling uncontrollably through the air. As he twisted mid-flight, he saw the glimmer of the sea below. His heart sank, and a cold dread gripped him.
"No... not water..."
The memories flooded back, unbidden and suffocating. The sterile walls of the tank, the endless water pressing in, his desperate gasps for air as he drowned repeatedly during those inhumane experiments. The trauma of his time in the cube consumed him.
"Shit, shit, shit!" Logan's thoughts spiraled into panic.
He hit the surface of the sea with a loud splash, the cold water enveloping him instantly. His body thrashed instinctively, but the weight of his past bore down on him. The echoes of his torment in the water tank paralyzed him.
Logan's vision blurred, the world around him fading as his trauma pulled him under. His mind screamed for him to fight, but his body betrayed him, surrendering to the haunting memories.
As his consciousness began to slip away, the faint roar of Beta echoed above the waves, a reminder that the battle was far from over.
As Logan's eyes fluttered closed, the chilling roar of Beta echoed across the shoreline, a primal sound of unrelenting power and rage.
"RAWRRRR!"
Beta pounded his chest, his massive frame towering like an unyielding colossus. But before he could charge into the water after Logan, a voice cut through the chaos.
"What the hell is going on here?"
The voice was calm, confident, yet tinged with curiosity. Beta froze, turning his crimson eyes toward the source.
There, standing boldly in the midst of the destruction, was a figure clad in a sleek black spandex suit. The fabric gleamed under the faint moonlight, hugging his athletic form. A striking white spider emblem stretched across his chest, its legs extending over his shoulders and waist. His mask, matching the deep black of his suit, bore large, stark-white lenses that seemed to narrow as he surveyed the scene.
Beta growled, his low, guttural voice breaking the tense silence. "Who... are... you?"
The figure tilted his head, crossing his arms casually. "Who am I?" he repeated, his tone dripping with mock surprise. He took a step forward, the air around him brimming with energy.
Then, with a smirk that could be felt even through his mask, he declared: "I'm Spider-Man."
The name hung in the air like a lightning bolt. Beta's primal instincts recognized the shift in power. This wasn't just some passerby; this was someone who could challenge him.
Spider-Man crouched slightly, his gloved fingers flexing as he prepared to spring into action. "Now, big guy, you've had your fun. But I'm afraid playtime's over."
Beta roared again, his massive fists slamming into the ground, creating a tremor that shook the earth beneath them.
Spider-Man didn't flinch. Instead, he quipped, "Wow, someone's got anger issues. Let me guess—no one told you 'sharing is caring' during kindergarten?"
The stage was set. Logan lay unconscious in the water, waves lapping at his body. Spider-Man stood between Beta and further destruction, ready to show the hulking beast why he was New York's most famous web-slinger.
