NIGHTMARE : underneath the surface

Chapter 10: OFFICE ERUPTION

CHAPTER TEN: OFFICE ERUPTION

Back at the office, the atmosphere was charged with tension. Diva had brought snacks in a desperate attempt to win over her colleagues, hoping to mend the rift that had formed after the recent incident. As she approached Helen, her hands trembled slightly, and she offered a box of cookies. "I brought these for everyone. I just wanted to say thank you for your support while I was away for my mom's birthday and to apologize for what happened between me and Helen. I'm serious, she started it," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Helen glanced at the box, then back at Diva, her expression unreadable. "They smell funny," she commented bluntly, wrinkling her nose in disdain before tossing the cookies into the trash with a dismissive flick of her wrist.

Diva's face fell, anger igniting within her as they both began to yell, their voices rising above the clamor of the office. I stood at the door, feeling a wave of nausea wash over me. I had just recovered from my fainting spell, and the sight of their confrontation made my stomach churn.

"Why do you have to be so rude?" Diva shouted, her eyes blazing with indignation. "I was just trying to be nice!"

"Nice? You think bringing snacks after everything is going to fix things?" Helen shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

A knot tightened in my chest as I watched the chaos unfold. Suddenly, a colleague walked in and noticed me standing there. "Hey, Alex! The CEO wants to see you," he said, breaking my focus on the escalating argument.

I turned away from the turmoil, ignoring the tension in the air as I made my way to Anthony's office. I could still hear their voices echoing behind me, but I pushed it out of my mind. I needed to concentrate on the meeting ahead.

As I entered my brother's office, I found him sitting behind his desk, a serious expression etched across his face. "Alex, I wanted to talk to you about the recent events in the office," he began, but my mind was still reeling from the confrontation I had just witnessed.

Meanwhile, back in the break room, the argument between Diva and Helen escalated further. They were so caught up in their fight that they didn't notice the growing crowd around them, all eyes glued to the spectacle. I could hear snippets of their heated exchange as I sat in my brother's office, struggling to concentrate on what he was saying.

"Alex, are you even listening?" Anthony's voice broke through my thoughts, and I shook my head, trying to refocus.

"Sorry, I just... I saw something happen outside," I admitted, my mind still partially consumed by the chaos unfolding in the break room.

"Whatever it is, you need to stay out of it. Focus on your work," he said firmly, but I could see the concern in his eyes.

As I left his office, a sense of dread washed over me. I made my way back to the break room, where the argument had reached a fever pitch, the tension palpable in the air.
