Chapter 79: The Plot

There was no need to ask; even Fatty could guess who Chen Yao had invited as her dance partner. It was none other than her teacher, who was also Li Yanwei's fiancé—Su Yu.
Li Yanwei's voice began to tremble uncontrollably, and recounting these events was clearly torturous for her.
"From that moment on, Chen Yao used dance practice as an excuse to stay close to Su Yu. During the day, she found various reasons to delay, all to create opportunities for them to be alone at night when Su Yu would stay behind to help her practice."
"The school leadership placed great importance on the performance. At that time, Su Yu had just joined the faculty and was eager to prove himself. And..." Li Yanwei paused, gritting her teeth, "Who could have thought that a girl who seemed so innocent could be so cunning?"
"I was blind back then!"
Jiang Cheng and Fatty listened quietly without offering any comfort. Any words they could say would be far too insignificant compared to what the woman in front of them had endured.
Li Yanwei took a few moments to calm down before continuing, "As Chen Yao's actions became more intimate, even crossing physical boundaries, Su Yu started to realize something was wrong. He noticed that Chen Yao's feelings for him had exceeded what was appropriate between a student and teacher."
"Once Su Yu realized this, he began to distance himself from her. He was even somewhat frightened and tried to avoid her, delaying their rehearsals as much as possible and no longer staying late in the dance studio."
At this point, Jiang Cheng suddenly interrupted, "Where is the dance studio?"
"In building C," Li Yanwei said, her tone carrying a hint of something, "You've been there before—it's the same music room where the rehearsals were held."
"After that incident, the school, under pressure, dissolved the entire dance department, dismissed all the male staff, and sealed off the dance studio."
"It wasn't until last year, when new leadership took over, that they ordered the studio to be renovated into the current music room."
Fatty swallowed nervously and hesitantly asked, "Did Chen Yao commit suicide in the dance studio?"
"Yes," Li Yanwei nodded after a long pause, her forehead veins bulging in a terrifying manner. "Chen Yao went mad—she was completely insane!"
"When her attempts to seduce him failed, she resorted to threats."
"She threatened Su Yu, saying that if he didn't break up with me and be with her, she would report him to the entire school, accusing him of inappropriate behavior towards her."
Fatty's expression turned odd as he couldn't help but think that such a situation was almost too bizarre to be true.
Li Yanwei stopped speaking for a moment, then resumed after a while, "But Su Yu refused. Although he admired Chen Yao, it was only within the boundaries of a student-teacher relationship. So, he decisively rejected her."
"One rainy night, when Su Yu didn't show up, Chen Yao, who was waiting alone in the dance studio, hanged herself. Her body was discovered the next day by a security guard during a routine check."
"We later deduced that Chen Yao might have been suffering from some kind of mental illness, which caused her to become obsessed and ultimately lose herself in a distorted relationship, leading to such a tragic outcome."
Li Yanwei shook her head slightly, her emotions complex.
Fatty wanted to say something but didn't know where to start.
"By the way," Li Yanwei said, looking at the two men in front of her and changing the subject, "Where are the others who were with you?"
"They..."
"Three of them are confirmed dead," Jiang Cheng interrupted Fatty, saying naturally, "Chen Yao's doing."
Fatty was visibly startled, his expression filled with fear as he stared at Jiang Cheng. Could they really discuss such things with an NPC? He was even more concerned that Li Yanwei might actually be Chen Yao in disguise. Talking about murders in front of a ghost could provoke its wrath.
Unexpectedly, Li Yanwei showed no sign of surprise. She simply nodded and calmly asked, "Were the jaws torn off the victims?"
"Yes."
Li Yanwei fell silent for a while before finally saying, "She still can't let go."
"What do you mean?"
"To force Su Yu to submit, Chen Yao reported him to the school, accusing him of inappropriate behavior during their dance practices."
"But she didn't expect that a security guard on night patrol had witnessed her attempting to seduce Su Yu. Multiple guards testified in Su Yu's favor, and he was ultimately cleared of the allegations."
"That was her punishment," Li Yanwei said with a hint of relief in her voice.
"Her carefully constructed image of innocence was completely destroyed. People whispered about her behind her back, and the school canceled her solo performance. There were even rumors that some higher-ups were considering expelling her."
"In the world of art, character comes first, so the outcome wasn't surprising," Jiang Cheng remarked thoughtfully.
"It seems her entire artistic career was ruined by this," Fatty said with a sigh.
"Not just her career," Jiang Cheng rubbed his chin, speaking with a knowing tone, "For a girl, her whole life was probably over."
The dimly lit corridor was suddenly enveloped in a somber atmosphere.
Fatty despised the kind of behavior where someone would try to steal someone else's fiancé and even fabricate lies, but thinking about Chen Yao's tragic fate stirred a sense of pity in his heart.
If people are full of contradictions, then Fatty's inner conflicts surely matched his size.
"So this is all Chen Yao's revenge," Li Yanwei said. "Not long after Chen Yao's death, the security guards who testified against her began to meet with accidents."
Li Yanwei shivered as if recalling those gruesome scenes, her whole body tensing up.
Jiang Cheng and Fatty had heard about the guards' fates before from Yu Wen, who had relayed the story told by Feng Lan in the teachers' dormitory. Now, the two clues were finally coming together.
"Were there any other victims besides the security guards?"
Li Yanwei nodded, "Several teachers and two students from the instrumental class."
Fatty frowned, "Did they also testify against Chen Yao?"
"In a way," Li Yanwei replied, "These teachers had seen Chen Yao acting coquettishly towards her teacher and purposely getting close to Su Yu during certain dance moves."
"The two students were responsible for playing the accompaniment during Chen Yao's ballet rehearsals. Their statements were similar."
Jiang Cheng thought for a moment. "Do we have a confirmed number of victims?"
"All in all, there were nine," Li Yanwei confirmed.
