Chapter 29: Class Change & Confirmations



In my Player Room after leaving the event field, I was struggling with a difficult and important decision: my class' evolution.

The class evolution requires 5 AP, which I'd obtained from the last level-up of the Scout class giving me such a bonus, and thanks to the lottery in the event field. All that remains is to choose one of the options that are in front of me at the moment:

Class: Hunter
Rank: Intermediate
Class-line: Scout
Requirement conditions:
  • Skill: Detect-type skill related to creatures, + [Create Trap]
  • DEX: 130

Class traits:
  • Unlocks detection- and trap-related skills.
  • Increases the effect of detection-type skills.
  • Improves the quality of created traps.
Description:

The Hunter is someone who relies on traps to do their dirty work. After stalking their prey, the Hunter prepares a fitting trap to take care of the deed.

It grants access to skills related to detection and traps while also improving their effects.

If a fight is the last thing you want, but magic is out of your reach, take this class.

  • Skill: Hiding-type skill + [Surprise Attack]
  • Karma Value: -50 or less.

  • Increases the damage inflicted on a target by the means of a surprise attack.
Description:

The Rogue is a dirty bastard that hates playing fair. They will fight without honor or scruples if it can bring them victory, and can without a care for others use forbidden items if they need to.

It grants access to skills related to hiding and sneak attacks. They can also take certain skills related to the usage of "forbidden" or "evil" items.

If honor is something that doesn't fill your stomach, choose this class.

Description:

The String Artist is far from as harmless as their name might suggest. These people use strings as hidden weapons to cut the vital points of their enemies. They can also use their strings to detect incoming enemies and/or prey. 

The owner of this class will be granted the ability to manipulate strings and use them as fetters, deadly blades, or even as distractions.

If you have a serious case of chuunibyou, then this class could be a good fit for you.

Requirement conditions:
  • Skill: [Dagger Proficiency]
  • SPD: 120
  • DEX: 120
  • Karma: -50 or less.

  • Unlocks skills related to the usage of daggers and knives, as well as hit-and-run tactics.
  • Increases the damage from attacks done with a small blade.
Description:

The Slasher is the answer the different classes had for the street slasher. Like the criminal, the Slasher runs through the streets (or wherever they are) and cuts through their targets with swiftness and mercilessness.

The skills this class has to offer are all related to the usage of short-bladed weapons and hit-and-run tactics. Speed is the key here.

If you want to play like a criminal, take this class.

  • Skill: Three or more Monster Skills related to status ailments.
  • Title: [Merciless]
  • Karma: -50 or less.

Class traits:
  • Unlocks skills related to the usage of status ailments.
  • Increases the probability of inflicting status ailments on a target.
Description:

Ruin Carriers bring status ailments along with them and ruin the opponent's ability to fight back. They are specialists in status ailments, or perhaps over-specialists, as they do not have any other means of fighting.

This class provides skills that grant status ailments. But depending on your attributes, there may be fewer or more skills available to you.

If you don't like harming people directly and want them to sink in a swamp of status ailments they have no hope of fleeing from, take this class.

Class: Demonic Rogue

  • Race: Demon-type.
  • Skill: Two or more Demon-type skills, + 1 or more Hiding-type skill, + [Surprise Attack]

  • Unlocks skills related to surprise attacks and demonic powers.
  • Increases the effect of Demon-type skills.
Description:

Demonic Rogue is one of the race-limited intermediate classes for demons. They sneak around and defeat their enemies with their inborn demonic powers. 

This class provides demon-type skills and skills that make it easier to facilitate a surprise attack. 

This class is perfect for demons who want to fight in the shadows unseen by the public, yet they are known for their powers.

A tough decision indeed...

Or not! I mean, there is no other choice but to take the Demonic Rogue! String Artist and Ruin Carrier are also cool, but Demonic Rogue does feel like the safest choice. The thought of being able to use demonic powers like a pro is so alluring, and it seems to be the best fit for my current skill build.

As for why Slasher is an alternative, I used the Skill Book of [Dagger Proficency].

I mean, daggers are my most used weapon, after throwing rocks.

Effect:
  • Increase of damage to a target based on how much lower the owner's Karma Value is compared to the target.
    • The damage is increased by: [Difference between Karma Values / 10]%.
  • [Active effect]: Consume MP to temporarily enhance your stats based on your Karma Value.
    • Stats enhanced: STR, SPD.
    • The lower the Karma Value, the higher the increase: [Negative Karma Value / 10)]%.
    • MP cost: [Negative Karma Value - Skill Level]. 
    • Can only be used when the owner has a negative Karma Value.

Wow! That's awesome! But, the MP cost is based on my Karma..., over 150!?

Okay, this is a "sink or swim"-type of move. Better not to use it without thinking. My max MP with my current title is 156, and the power-up effect requires 176 MP, to be precise. 

If I swap my title into [First Evil Eye] or [Dungeon Ruler], I should have enough, but just barely. Not to mention that I want to keep those two a secret, so this skill may not see much usage at the moment.

I should try to increase my levels for tomorrow. Improving my MP won't hurt, not to mention all the other stats.

*Ding*

Right as I was about to leave, I received a notification that someone had answered my post on the demon thread. It's from Al Azif..., good. He's preparing for the "popularity contest" tomorrow. Seems he's gotten the fox- and loli crafters to help him, along with some other characters. 

This is good. The contest is the biggest thing regarding this event. The NPCs I overheard earlier in the alleyway had been part of that. As in, trying to facilitate the results into something useful for them. 

Turns out that the NPCs don't want someone like me to win the popularity contest. That may have been the reason why the casino banned me, as I was gathering way too much attention. Following that logic, they may have facilitated that the rabbit won the 1st prize in the lottery. To move the crowd's attention from me to him. It helped me out in the end, so I'm not mad about that.

I wrote back to Al Azif to ask if he needed help, but a short reply later asked for me to stay clear so that the "masked demon princess of unknown identity" wouldn't make a bigger ruckus. Who invented that nickname anyway!?

Ah, whatever. Let's go hunt some frogs.

[Mythical Threads]! [Mythical Threaaaaads]!!

SYSTEM MESSAGE:

Several magical threads were fired inside the mouth of the frog and pierced its brain, draining the last of its HP and killing it before its jaws could finish me off. 

I pulled myself out of the frog's mouth that had been trying to eat me alive after my [Demonic Combat]-boosted punch failed to kill the frog. Tch, guess these guys are resistant to blunt attacks. I should have used my dagger...

Okay, unarmed combat is not my style. Let's stick to weapons. 

Good thing I used the [Dungeon Ruler] title instead of [First Evil Eye]. If the extra VIT hadn't been there, I'd be frog food by now. *Brr*...

I picked up the Darkland Frog's Eye and threw it into my [Small Inventory] before I continued on my walk. Those things must have a high drop rate. I keep on getting one after every tenth amphibian. 

Deciding that this was enough for testing [Demonic Combat], I returned to my preferred battle style of hiding and attacking with [Mythical Threads] after softening the enemy with [Weakness Evil Eye]. 

In between the fights, I started to think about what to spend my CP on after the third day. Thanks to both the casino and selling my items to the three crafters, I'd amassed 10.000 CP. That's equal to fighting twice in the combat events and winning the whole thing, which is pretty impressive as you're only allowed to enter those events once per day. 

The most expensive price is an "Advanced Event Skill-Up Potion", which increases the level of any random skill at tier-1 and above Lv.3. It cost 1.000 CP, but I've got no interest in it.

Instead, I want the "Lesser Event Skill-Up Potion", which works on a random Lv.2-or-below skill and can be bought with 100 CP. Getting a bunch of these and keep on using them until my skills are all Lv.3 is for the best. I could also stop drinking them if the only skills left are strange ones like [Magic] and [Speed]. 

If my luck suddenly decided to take a day off, I would need 34 of these potions to make all my skills reach Lv.3, so I'll buy 30 of them, one Advanced Potion that I'll use right away, and spend the last 1.000 on something else. Maybe one of the "Event Skill-Up Potions" that works on any random skill up to tier-1, Lv.5? They cost 500 CP each. Or maybe some items. 

Ah, another toad. I killed it swiftly but didn't get a level-up. It's getting late, so let's go to bed today. Tomorrow is a big day. Special survival and all that.
