Nightmare Assault

Chapter 418: Don't Move

How could this be?

Things started to spiral out of control. Jiang Cheng initially thought Lin Chen didn't know about Lee Maoshen and the rest, and she died in an accident. However, from the looks of things, Lin Chen knew about the relationship between Lee Maoshen and Yu Youwei and even the planned shoots.

She read Lee Maoshen's diary. When they gathered for the meeting to discuss the plan, she was just standing outside the window, staring at them. She was privy to everything!

But… Why? Why didn't she resist or expose them?

A bad feeling festered in Jiang Cheng's heart. He had a feeling things were not that simple.

The diary started on May 7th when Lee Maoshen complained about the platform's admin. His current videos didn't go viral, and he started to think about another direction. This continued until June 10th, when everything really started.

During this process, Lee Maoshen sounded driven. However, everything changed after two days. During the first shoot, something went wrong with the lights. However, Lee Maoshen didn't care about it. Then, during the second shoot, Lee Maoshen noted down his hesitation. He seemed to have encountered some inexplicable issues.

During the third shoot, Lee Maoshen's emotions were frayed. They caught a black shadow on camera. It was not one of them.

Things got worse during the fourth shoot. When Yu Youwei pretended to be a ghost to scare Lin Chen, she encountered something horrible. When she was hiding under the bed, someone grabbed her leg. She claimed that something was not right with Lin Chen. She could turn her head around fully, and she had no face!

Could it be…

While Jiang Cheng hesitated, Lin Chen beside him moved. She slowly put down the diary and covered her face with her hands. Jiang Cheng didn't hear sobbing. He saw Lin Chen's small body curl up. It was heartbreaking.

After who knew how long, danger came from the dark. Lin Chen stopped crying. She slowly stood up to fetch some water from the kitchen. Then, she walked into the bedroom. She moved aside the pillow Jiang Cheng had slept on to reveal a white plastic bottle.

She twisted open the bottle and poured the pills out. They were valium pills. For most, they were less effective sleeping pills. After the endless torture, Lin Chen chose the path to end everything. She was done.

Jiang Cheng subconsciously walked forward to snatch the pills from her. However, a strange thing happened. His hand easily phased through her body. Jiang Cheng tried to stop her again, but he couldn't do it. Lin Chen was like a projection.

He and Lin Chen didn't belong in the same space. He was a traveller who could only watch and didn't have the power to change anything. It was like a nightmare. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't change his predestined fate or the past.

Jiang Cheng reached into his pocket. He was reminded of the painting. It was something Lin Chen left behind. Perhaps it could change everything. It might help her understand what kind of horror would happen if she died. The man in black was Lin Chen's creation. In a way, Lin Chen was the source. She did not understand the kind of monster her despair had created. She didn't know about the endless and terrifying ghost stories. Using Wu's kindness to chase away Lin Chen's despair might be the only solution.

However, when he touched the picture and was about to take it out to show Lin Chen…

"Don't move," Someone said.

Jiang Cheng halted when he heard the voice. He recognised the owner. It was Wu.

By then, a dark shadow stood a few metres behind him on the small balcony. The coat flapped in the wind. A firm figure was planted in the ground like a battle banner.

Under the cap was a pair of red eyes.

Jiang Cheng's hand that held the drawing moved.

However, the next second, he heard the sword leaving its sheath. It was hard to describe. Chill exploded before the sword was unsheathed. The pressure suffocated him.

Standing in front of Wu, Jiang Cheng slowly pulled out his hands and raised them in surrender. "Brother, there's no need to do this." He said, "We can discuss this." He considered pulling the painting out to awaken Lin Chen, but after some consideration, he believed it was better to be careful.

During that period, Lin Chen swallowed all the pills. She sat by the bed. Jiang Cheng watched her slowly lose her consciousness and collapse to the ground.

"She is long dead, right?" Jiang Cheng's tone was even as he regarded the poor woman before him. "You saved her after she died for the first time."

Things clarified. The clock on the wall provided the time. Before the shoots started, the real Lin Chen had died. She died from an overdose. However, she was revived by a mysterious force. Undeniably, it was the handiwork of the person behind Jiang Cheng.

After she woke up, she used her old body. Even though she looked normal on the surface, her internal organs were rotting. That explained the police's autopsy report.

At the same time, Lin Chen lost the memory of her first death. However, that was awakened when the police visited her. Lin Chen couldn't accept the truth. In her breakdown, she chose to jump off the balcony. That was her time of death, known to the public.

As for the anomalies in the shoots, it was because of Lin Chen. She was dead and had mastered part of her ghost powers.

People pretended to be ghosts to scare a ghost who pretended to be a human. Jiang Cheng really thought Lee Maoshen was a director ahead of his time.
