Chapter 44 - A One-Sided Annihilation!
"But before we begin… you should quiet down first."
Kaede turned his gaze to the Seven-Tails.
The beast's constant howling was beginning to get on his nerves.
"Mangekyō Sharingan."
With a sharp glare, Kaede instantly subdued the Seven-Tails with his gaze alone.
"Come."
With that done, he casually gestured to the jōnin of Takigakure to come at him.
The jōnin licked their lips nervously.
Even without that overwhelming secret technique, this man still looked impossible to handle.
Three of them exchanged glances and, under Sakuto Matsushiro's encouraging gaze, they gritted their teeth and launched themselves at Kaede.
They were all specialists in taijutsu.
But in the very next second—
Smack!
Boom!
As one got close, Kaede drew his sword in a flash.
The blade slammed across the man's face, sending him flying until he crashed into the cliffside, where he lay embedded and unconscious.
The cliff cracked apart from the impact.
Kaede glanced at the stunned expressions around him and smiled lightly.
"Relax. I controlled my strength—he's not dead."
Even so, the jōnin were frozen with fear.
The remaining two taijutsu specialists slammed to a stop.
"What? Afraid now?" Kaede shook his head. "Then I guess I'll take the initiative."
Whoosh!
Before the other two could react, Kaede appeared between them.
One swipe of his blade, one sweeping kick—and both were sent flying, just like the first.
Instant defeat. Again.
Sakuto swallowed hard.
Only now did he realize how foolish his challenge had been.
Meanwhile, the other Uchiha looked on lazily and began mocking the spectacle.
"They really had the nerve to challenge our clan head?"
"Back then, one word from him froze 300 of Konoha's elite in place."
"So what if he's not using his Mangekyō? The gap in power is something tricks can't close."
"Takigakure really is weak. Looks like we won't even get a chance to fight."
"The clan head's clearly using them as practice dummies. Best to stay out of it."
...
Their every word dripped with disdain for Takigakure.
And they had every right to feel that way.
Even without Kaede, the Uchiha could've easily taken this village.
Kaede didn't pause after finishing the first three. He dove into the crowd.
The shinobi of Takigakure panicked, quickly raising their weapons to resist.
They hoped their numbers would at least force Kaede into a desperate struggle.
But their attacks were nothing before the Sharingan.
Kaede began his solo performance.
Dodging a kunai from the left, he cut down a weapon in front of him with a flick of his blade.
Just before cleaving its wielder in two, he twisted the sword and knocked him flying instead.
These were to be his future subordinates. Kaede, uncharacteristically, restrained his killing intent.
Then, a shinobi from behind tried to grab him, hoping to create an opening for his allies.
But just as he reached out—
Zzzap!
Kaede turned into a burst of lightning, electrocuting several enemies in the process.
Lightning Style: Lightning Clone!
The difference in strength was so vast, they hadn't even realized when Kaede cast the jutsu.
Elsewhere, Kaede reappeared in the middle of three other shinobi.
"There he is!" one shouted—only to be launched a second later.
Another tried a Doton technique to drag Kaede underground.
But as his head peeked up, Kaede, already anticipating him, jumped and kicked him out of the earth.
In less than a minute, Takigakure had already lost nearly half of its jōnin.
And Kaede… wasn't even serious.
The remaining shinobi began backing away in fear rather than attacking.
Kaede frowned in disappointment.
"This is all you've got?"
"I'm starting to regret even considering taking you in. What a waste."
A terrifying killing intent surged from him. The Takigakure shinobi were frozen in terror.
Was he really going to kill them all?
Many of them trembled just holding their weapons.
Sakuto panted heavily, glaring in frustration at Kaede.
But deep down… he made a decision.
"Don't underestimate Takigakure!"
He reached behind his back and pulled out a transparent vial filled with liquid.
"Sakuto-dono!" the others gasped.
Was he really going to use the trump card now?
Kaede narrowed his eyes.
"The Hero Water of Takigakure?"
"They say its cost is the user's life. Quite bold of you."
Sakuto didn't respond. He only said grimly:
"Buy me time!"
Then, he opened the vial and drank it all in one go.
"Yes, sir!" the shinobi roared in unison.
Sakuto's resolve reignited the blood in their veins.
'We may not win… but we won't go down like cowards!'—that was the thought in every heart.
A few shinobi by the river began weaving hand signs together.
The others charged Kaede again with renewed spirit.
"Now this is more like it," Kaede nodded with satisfaction.
If they had stayed as cowardly as before, he really would've gone on a killing spree.
But it seemed Takigakure still had a little backbone.
Only a little, though.
"I'm done playing."
Kaede burst back into the crowd, this time striking even harder.
With every attack, a jōnin was knocked out cold, vomiting blood.
Some tried the Substitution Technique, but Kaede would instantly track down their real bodies and slam them into the dirt.
Within twenty seconds, over ten jōnin lay groaning on the ground.
They didn't even have the qualifications to stall Kaede!
Meanwhile, Sakuto finished absorbing the Hero Water.
His chakra had exploded in strength—tenfold, even.
But his life force… was rapidly fading.
"Water Style: Great Waterfall Technique!"
From the river nearby, a massive wall of water rose into the air, dozens of meters tall.
It came crashing toward Kaede like a tidal wave.
Kaede shook his head.
"Small-time village, small-time tricks."
Gripping his blade Kyōka Suigetsu, he swung in reverse.
"Issen!" (Flash Cut)
A dazzling sword light burst out and collided with the incoming torrent.
The next instant—the waterfall was split in half.
The water roared past Kaede's sides without even touching him.
"W-What?!"
The few shinobi who had launched the attack were struck with despair.
An A-rank jutsu… torn apart so easily?!
"Out of the way—let me handle this!"
Sakuto stepped forward at last, his Hero Water boost complete.
Kaede examined him. "Your chakra increased tenfold."
"But your life force is fading fast."
"And do you really think… that's enough to beat me?"
Sakuto stared him down. "I don't expect to win. I only want to show you Takigakure's true strength!"
…
